Kunos shows more of their eagerly awaited sim at Misano.

During recent Blancpain GT Series race weekend at Misano (22 - 24 June), one of the main points of interests, aside from the thrilling race itself, was provided from Kunos Simulazioni, which brought a tech-demo of their new title, Assetto Corsa Competizione, to the Italian venue for people to try. AK Informatica provided the necessary simracing cockpits that were installed in the paddock, with the developers on hand for suggestions and feedback from both professional drivers and casual users.

The demo was somewhat different from the one showed at the E3. The players could still choose between two different hotlap challenges (being one in dry and one in damp conditions) and two different race setups (first one was a race ran under bad weather; second one a race held at dusk, transitioning to night time). The cars available this time were the Ferrari 488 GT3, the Lamborghini Huracán GT3, the Mercedes AMG GT3 and finally the Audi R8 LMS GT3. The track was obviously a laser-scanned virtual recreation of Misano.

The footage captured shows the demo running under all of the previously cited setups, while cycling through all the camera options available in game.


The AI looks to be driving fairly nicely, and there are no signs of major issues with their algorithm. As a note of criticism, they also look very static and not that much aggressive though, being mostly content with following one another. They also seem to attack curbs, especially under wet conditions, more than it would be feasible in real life given the same circumstances. The same was also possible for the player. Developers were re-assuring that the behaviour of the AI in this demo was tweaked ad hoc and that this specific matter was intentionally present so to avoid them having troubles running correctly around the track, while backstage they are working hard on polishing their code. The issues just mentioned, according to them, will not affect final release.

Professional driver, competing with Attempto Racing in an Audi R8 LMS GT3, and enthusiast sim-racer, part of Team Redline, Kelvin van der Linde, was able to test the demo, and gave a very positive feedback about it, being overall impressed with the quality of the new sim made by Kunos.


Assetto Corsa Competizione should be available on Steam Early Access Summer 2018.

I don't think I can explain how UE4 has native VR support using words small enough for you to comprehend.

Reference please? last I heared was "we're not spending any time on mod support", which is not the same thing at all.

ACC is very focused, presumably in an attempt to go for the iRacing market; I can see future DLC dealing with other SRO series ( GT4 please! ) but this doesn't look like AC2 and I don't believe was ever marketed as a replacement for AC.

What are we up to for SRO now: Blancpain, Asia, Euro GT4, British GT, French GT4, PWC.. what else?

I'd pay for a historic BPR series too.
Unless us modders learn Unreal Engine, which I have asked about, modding will not happen, it will not be supported at this present time.

So ACC is going to simply be AC with some kind of hacked in rain and night, grip levels will be multiple yet still static, every series that is owned by the SRO will be dlc, and VR will not work or be supported. Thanks for all the info RD!

Edit: I forgot that it will also have terrible sounds and horrendous input lag.

People were able to mod Grand Prix Legends, I cannot imagine not being able to mod ACC.

Does the use of the UE4 enforces you to use some specific proprietary 3D modeling format? I cannot see how not learning UE4 denies you the ability to mod. I may be missing some information.

Anyway, not care too much about modding, if be possible that will be a plus. I personally cannot wait to try the new sim and all features and enhancements.

By the way, is it on the plans the possibility to perform driver swaps on multiplayer events?

I think you are confusing what's been said by community members (which includes me) in their comments as actual news and facts claimed by RD itself. I believe it is not necessary to actually explain you the difference.

All I'm gonna say is that I'm not that hyped for a title that will only have one major racing series. The classic cars of AC and the modding capabilities were the main reasons that pushed me to buy the game. Variety is key for me, an aspect that is far more important than online racing. However, I have ACC at the very top of my Steam wishlist and I'm still gonna buy the game, because Kunos has shown they're very professional developers, and they are worthy of being supported, unlike other devs I won't mention. I hope all these cool improvements make their way into a future AC2, that will bring back the variety and modding features. :)
 
Interesting, never heard of it before. From their 'About' section, it looks like it's just dedicated track days for hyper cars, though; not actual racing.
But the good thing of having SRO license of this Series, is that Kunos could exploit it to create something "unique" as DLC for ACC.
Just imagine Custom Championships with hypercars racing in the tracks of Blancpain GT.
If you want I can link you the missing hypercars so you can race them in AC and see yourself how cool is it.

Since it appears you've already played the sim I have a few questions.
What portion of the sound bits were terrible?
Was the input lag occurring while using vsync, are you running a 144hz monitor?
