2009 British Touring Car Championship

TouringCarTimes.com has received reports that Racing Silverline/RML are planning a third Chevrolet Lacetti for the British Touring Car Championship race at Oulton Park. James Nash is rumored to be up for the drive.

The youngster has tested for other BTCC teams during the pre season, but failed to land a full season drive.

Couldn't find out much about him - http://www.driverdb.com/drivers/6482/

touring car times are jumping the gun and jumping to conclusions from what was written in Motorsport News. In Motorsport News it said that it was a promising young driver and the 2 that popped into my mind as looking for touring car drives at the moment are Mickey Doyle and Ben Winrow.

i was there at the weekend (like most weekends now im a marshal) but only on Saturday because i had to go out saturday night so couldnt make it sunday which was quite annoying. i was actually in the assembly area all day (on the right as you enter the paddock) which means any of you who went there on saturday probably saw me. and my dad was also marshalling at the Craner curves which was a bit boring on the saturday as nothing much happened.

James Nash confirmed at RML

BTCC.net said:
Youngster James Nash, driving an RML-entered Chevrolet Lacetti, will join the HiQ MSA British Touring Car Championship grid from Oulton Park’s fourth round onwards.

Nash, aged 23, graduates to the UK’s premier motor racing championship after a successful early career in Formula Ford single-seaters and, last year, the SEAT Leon Eurocup in which he finished fifth outright.

It has been confirmed that Nash will score points solely for RML in the outright and independent teams' championships - not for the sister Racing Silverline squad whose Chevrolets, driven by Jason Plato and Mat Jackson, are also fettled by Ray Mallock's Wellingborough-based outfit.

The Newport Pagnell driver said: “I’m extremely happy that we have finally reached this deal with RML. We’ve been looking at BTCC for some time, following a great first-season in the Eurocup last year, and I am just really excited to be working with RML. It’s a big organization with a rich history in touring cars and of course, RML runs the very successful works Chevrolet team in the World touring car championship.”

He added: “Having switched from single-seater to saloons at the beginning of last year, I have relatively little experience in comparison to other competitors in the BTCC. However, through working with RML I know this will be one of the biggest stepping stones in my career and, to date, one of the most positive moves I have made.

“I’m really looking forward to getting out there. Having raced in UK Formula Ford I am familiar with all the circuits on the calendar this year and front-wheel-drive isn’t completely new to me. I’m sure I’ll learn a lot and make the very best of this opportunity and give it my all.”

RML team manager Paul Field commented: “It’s great that we have managed to put a deal together to run James. Our BTCC team is just going from strength to strength and is growing tremendously quickly over such a short period of time.

“James has been highly competitive in every series he has raced in and I know has caught the eye of many in the industry. His enthusiasm and willingness to learn has also impressed me and we’re all looking forward to working with him and seeing how he fares in his first outing at Oulton Park.”

Loved watching this guy race, i remember the 2004 season with him and Thommo both able to win the title with the Last race of the season and with Muller only 1 point ahead.

But Thommo won it by getting the Fastest lap on the Penultimate lap with Muller winning the race. But Thommo won it. And it was one of the best title races ive ever seen!

i can remember the final race of 2005, Matt Neal only needed to finish ahead of Muller in race 2 to be champion and i'd been a fan of Matt Neal since his days in the Nissan Primera and when Muller moved over on Neal goin down the hill on the Brands GP loop and they touched it was really touch and go as to which one of the cars would come out without damage, and it was Matt Neal's Integra. Awesome race, but the most awesome bit of car control ive ever seen was when Plato touched Muller going into the last chicane at Thruxton in 2005 and Muller drifted it and still stayed ahead of Plato.

Interesting grid line up with Plato, Jackson, Turkington and Jones in the top 4 -can't remember the rest as the results haven't been released yet onto the BTCC site but we're looking set for good races tomorrow. I think Neal was down in 10th,

Hopefully Turks can win a race or 2 tomorrow and close in on Neal.

Brilliant pole by Plato. RML front row. Nash said he wanted to beat Plato and Jackson. He'll have to work a bit harder than that. Poor quali from Neal.

Great race for Turkington. Plato is going to have to contend with 36 kilos of ballast for the next race, so I think its looking relatively good for Turkington to win again.

I knew the Collard - Jortdan scrap would end like that. Collard is quick to moan when people hit him, but he can be just as stupid as Matt Neal when it comes to questionable moves.

im gonna apologise if i come across as a bit of an idiot when it comes to comments about BTCC, but its a series i am so passionate about and things frustrate me very easily.

next race though its just gonna be another BMW whitewash with Turkington starting 1st and Adam starting 3rd, unless Plato can get his nose in there at the hairpin
