Six years after the release of the original, publisher THQ Nordic and Developer Bugbear Entertainment have announced Wreckfest 2 to launch on PC and consoles "soon".

The original Wreckfest is still relatively popular in 2024 - but the franchise is due for a new entry: During the THQ Nordic Showcase, the publisher announced Wreckfest 2 by original developer Bugbear Entertainment to be "coming soon". The game's Steam page is already up as well - as is an announcement trailer, of course.

The trailer does not exactly show much except for a somewhat humorous look back at how a car sitting in a barn got crumpled up by its owner, but the announcement itself and the Steam page do already name what players can look forward to.

Overhauled Physics & Mod Support

Wreckfest 2 promises an overhauled physics engine and heavily-customizable cars. "Forget pristine supercars: Our cars are old, dented and patched together. Each of them tells a story, and now you can tell your own by fully customizing your ride" reads the description of the feature. A capable customization tool is supposed to take care of players' creative visions.

Additionally, a skill-based matchmaking systems will make its debut for online races, while other game modes such as Career Mode are "entirely reimagined". Challenges and Tournaments should give players plenty to do outside of their Career, too.

Mod support is explicitly mentioned to be coming to Wreckfest 2 via the Steam Workshop. However, VR support is not mentioned anywhere, and neither is a release date. Wreckfest 2 is set to launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

No VR yes buy
(Assuming resources are singularly focused on maximizing base game content and polish)

We need detailed, over-the-top, anatomically correct gore, with a quick, easy way to turn it off and clean things up, in case my grandson comes over and I let him play. :roflmao:

But cue all the whiners who can't play a game without their silly headsets on saying they won't buy it if it doesn't have VR :roflmao:

If I can be a bit more constructive: calling people whiners for using silly equipment, was uncalled for, and doesn't contribute to a whine-free environment. My two cents.

I use VR 5% of the time tops, but I know that some people's rigs are set up without a monitor, and if it precludes them from buying the game, well, that's unfortunate, and I understand why they'd push for VR to be featured, ideally not with a dismissive "No VR, no buy", but again, trying to make it a healthier discourse here :)

Wreckfest 1 was brilliant just like bugbears flat out games. Does what it intends to do with decent driving physics but not being overly serious. But cue all the whiners who can't play a game without their silly headsets on saying they won't buy it if it doesn't have VR :roflmao:
When you realise that being able to play in VR is for some users the exact same as for you playing on triples or on one monitor then i wonder how you would feel if your favorite game would come out and would have no monitor support huh? I dont understand your desire to ridicule and put down other habits just because you dont share them.

We know how they feel, threats to valve when half life Alyx was VR only.

Wreckfest is cool, but I don't like when games omit options for no reason. In the EA stage there was an option to set the steering rate, but then that was removed.
Now the steering on gamepad and keyboard is far too slow for how the cars drive rendering most slides unrecoverable or having you end up in endless tankslappers.
Typical modern game with the "we know better" design philosophy, à la PC3...

If someone makes decision to build pure VR setup, it’s their decision. But if then some games don’t work for them, it’s because of their decision. That makes “no VR no buy” whining. Either they want to be able to play everything or they limit their choices and then they can’t complain.

Wishlisted and instant buy on day 1. But WF1 is so well executed that I'm a bit worried it will not be on the same level. Just improve the engine sounds : )

On principle I don't buy any new sims anymore.

Until someone gets off their butt and makes a engine half as good as ISIMotor to "drive" they can all go jump.

No need for VR and no need for ffb, unless they'll make the handling way more realistic, which I'd prefer. Anyway really looking forward to seeing more.

Premium
I'll buy even without VR, But it will still be a disappointment if its not included.

Beamng showed that it could function just fine in an extreme offroad situation.

Would also appreciate data feed for a motion simulator.
