Six years after the release of the original, publisher THQ Nordic and Developer Bugbear Entertainment have announced Wreckfest 2 to launch on PC and consoles "soon".

The original Wreckfest is still relatively popular in 2024 - but the franchise is due for a new entry: During the THQ Nordic Showcase, the publisher announced Wreckfest 2 by original developer Bugbear Entertainment to be "coming soon". The game's Steam page is already up as well - as is an announcement trailer, of course.

The trailer does not exactly show much except for a somewhat humorous look back at how a car sitting in a barn got crumpled up by its owner, but the announcement itself and the Steam page do already name what players can look forward to.

Overhauled Physics & Mod Support

Wreckfest 2 promises an overhauled physics engine and heavily-customizable cars. "Forget pristine supercars: Our cars are old, dented and patched together. Each of them tells a story, and now you can tell your own by fully customizing your ride" reads the description of the feature. A capable customization tool is supposed to take care of players' creative visions.

Additionally, a skill-based matchmaking systems will make its debut for online races, while other game modes such as Career Mode are "entirely reimagined". Challenges and Tournaments should give players plenty to do outside of their Career, too.

Mod support is explicitly mentioned to be coming to Wreckfest 2 via the Steam Workshop. However, VR support is not mentioned anywhere, and neither is a release date. Wreckfest 2 is set to launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.

Wreckfest 1 was brilliant just like bugbears flat out games. Does what it intends to do with decent driving physics but not being overly serious. But cue all the whiners who can't play a game without their silly headsets on saying they won't buy it if it doesn't have VR :roflmao:

Nice! I just remember playing Wreckfest for hours and hours during Covid/Lockdown. (I loved the Daily Challenges etc)
But I uninstalled it from my PC a year or so ago (Steams says 23-3-2023) Downloading Wreckfest again as we speak:)
Can't wait for WF2

Cheers

Nice:D, look forward to when it comes out....by the look of that video it may have drivers inside the cars ..much like the rag doll fiqures on the Lawn Mower etc.(personal opinion).

Either way it will be a purchase for sure.:D

Yeah, I'll buy it. I hope it's a little more mod-friendly this time, like Assetto Corsa or AMS1.

Optional VR support would be nice, but not essential. I use VR sometimes, but I'm not always in the mood to have a brick strapped to my head, so I spend more time with my curved monitor, which I like.

I'll probably be more of a VR enthusiast when they get it to where it's like wearing a pair of sunglasses.

I love wreckfest. I play it in Stereoscopic 3D on my 3DTV. Wonder what game engine they will be using this time around.

Sounds cool. Ive had the original since very early access when the game was called next car game. Got it in an email or something, cant remember. Been playing it ever since.

Love to see titles taking MP and physics seriously in their early phases these days...

Get the important bits right early and things will flow organically... Getting them wrong can leave a title out in the cold...

The original sits in the same class as BeamNG just more of a focused game... Looking forwards to what this turns out to be...

Dude, you sound so childish. There is absolutely no need to put people down like that.
And yes, as a VR enthousiast I really do hope they implement it this time.

Grow up.
