Ride A Rollercoaster In Assetto Corsa

Assetto Corsa rollercoaster mod.jpg

Some racetracks with plenty of elevation change are described as rollercoasters, but how about an actual one? OverTake community member @taishow7 has created just that for Assetto Corsa.

Most sim racers will hear the words "Rollercoaster mod for Assetto Corsa" and assume someone has found a mod for the Algarve circuit or a similarly undulating venue. But of course, the modding community are not bound by serious racing content 100% of the time. There are running dinosaurs and Rainbow Road in AC after all, so maybe an actual rollercoaster is not too farfetched.

In fact, it is not. Made by user @taishow7, the Roller Coaster mod for Assetto Corsa comes with its own car labelled the LSG EXTRA RIDE, and the track itself comes in at just under one kilometre in length. It is said to be situated in Yokohama, Japan and seems to be be based on the real life diving "Vanish!" ride in Cosmo World - albeit without any underground sections.

Your eyes do not deceive you, it is an actual rollercoaster in Assetto Corsa. Image: @taishow7

Loading It Up

If you download the mod, maybe be prepared for the overstimulating sudden loud sounds. When you load in, there is a siren-like noise and even some music if you put it in broadcast camera, but most importantly, if you have a horn mapped, press it and the driver will enthusiastically scream and raise their arms. Whee!

The fact the rollercoaster car is on rails means you do not have to put in any steering inputs. Just put it into gear, floor the throttle and go around to your heart's content. Be aware that you can garner damage, so if you go around often enough at high enough speed, it may be possible to break the ride. Additionally, there is a function to turn on the lights all along the cart, which looks amazing at night.

Follow this step for the mod to work as intended. Image: @taishow7

After installing the mod, it is advised to disable the Active Solid pieces, dirt, bits of grass etc. in the Custom Shaders Patch tab under Particles FX.

Maybe Another Rollercoaster Mod?

Now, how to bring racing and rollercoasters even closer together? Considering we are racing fans, what is a brand we all know? You know, from Italy, races in F1 - Ferrari, of course. Next to the Yas Marina track in Abu Dhabi is Ferrari World, a theme park that has the distinct honour of housing the fastest roller coaster in the world: Formula Rossa.

That rollercoaster can go from a standstill to its top speed of 149mph in under four seconds. To see it in action, have a watch of this video from 2010 when Fernando Alonso and Felipe Massa were teammates at Ferrari. Just imagine a Formula Rossa mod in VR...

I just say, continue to have fun with what you like, but don't spit mud on what others like.

LMU is a game released in preview, incomplete and with several defects and shortcomings at a price similar to that of a much more complete game like Automobilista 2. But you only know how to praise LMU Racedepartment was...

........RD ? Lliving in the past to boot !

I said it already guys but let me repeat it.

There is only one fun in a simulator.

The fun of realism.
The joy of simracing comes from the possibility of drive a race car as fast as possible around a track or a rally stage imaging we're Schumacher or whoever you liked when you were a child.
Using a gamepad script to get 2:17 on Spa in a GT3 car using keyboard is superb. With a custom chase camera on top, AC is literally an arcade game. So this joy of sim racing is no different from the arcades, both involve zooming around in the cars you like.

You are pathetic! At least have the honesty, if you want to quote my sentences in other posts, to report them in full and not cut where it is convenient for you.

This was the full comment:

Sorry, I completely forgot that ACC is brand new and just got released this week. We'll be on top of ACC next week then.
You're witty.
I know ACC isn't new but it just released a long-awaited DLC.

Racedepartment was definitely better before it was bought.
I commented on what I believe to be a game that was released with flaws, without offending those who play it. For RD I write it clearly that it was better before being acquired

This article seems to be extremely distressing for some readers.

Maybe it's not clear to absolutely everyone its an optional download, there is no mandatory requirement to use the rollercoaster and it's not an official patch.

Those who want to have fun with it can use it, people who aren't interested in it can leave it, I personally won't be using it. Interesting article, but I probably won't ever give the mod a second thought. Other people using it won't affect my life in any way (seems obvious when you write it out, doesn't it).

Hopefully that can put some minds at ease and you can enjoy the rest of your weekend.

I really don't think the quality of Racedepartment/Overtake has anything to do with whoever owns it currently, nor do I think it has anything to do with the current editorial team. Where this site has gone downhill over the past couple of years is with the quality of the membership.

It's almost like all of the boorish gatekeeper behaviour prevalent on Reddit has migrated to here.

It seems that every time an article is posted about anything, out come the whining crybabies throwing all of their toys out of the pram and trying to tell everybody else they're wrong, and should not be enjoying (insert video game of your choice here).

Another thing, it seems like quite a few of the people doing the whining, crying, and telling people they're wrong, have been members for 5, maybe 10 years, yet have had practically zero engagement with the community (based on post count).

Voice your opinion by all means, but don't just barge out of the woodwork and start telling other people what to like, what to enjoy, or what to do. You'll gain no credibility by doing that, and also be prepared for the fact that others will have a differing opinion.

The fact that an article discussing a rollercoaster mod for AC could actually cause distress for some readers is incredibly pathetic.

It's a mod, for a rollercoaster. That is all (it sounds quite fun actually), and the guy who made it has my absolute respect for being awesome.

If this is actually causing some people distress, then might I suggest that these people create a subreddit called, oh, I don't know, something like r/norollercoastermodsinac and then they can all be in their little safe space echo chamber together.

Wow, one person without a PTSD after reading about a rollercoaster mod, which he is not interested in, in AC, that's a miracle!!! :D

How did you do that???
Mmm... Just by not downloading the mod... How clever, I hope the traumatized AC users will get this crucial piece of advice, well done!

I'm pretty sure rollercoasting in VR in AC is better than any VR dedicated game (I'm not sure these old games even work on modern systems). And you get more control...

As a modder i totally understand the allure for modders to add these things, i've done similar myself, to see if i can, what i can't really fathom is why punters WANT these, things like planes for example or motorbikes (both of which i've modded into AC along with Monster trucks), if you want and incredible experience with planes buy MSFS.
I just don't get it, or why people want AC to be like Forza Horizon when you can buy FH..... it seems to me like its a bit cheap, this one size fits all doesn't really work as AC is pretty terrible for a lot of things and doesn't really do racing that well either (and i speak as someone with 4000hrs in it).

So yes, i understand why its fun to get odd stuff in AC, but don't get why people clamour for it so much...

I got this into AC and it was fun.... but much much better in Beamng

And many thanks for expirementing and modding. Only thanks to dedicated people like you we can understand how good and how limited (or not) are these amazing games. Pushing the limits is the point. Hard (free) workxdeserves recognition.

EDIT : where is that Monster Truck mod with this track??? ;)

I have it, the monster truck has several bodies to go with it, as in real life its just a plastic shell stuck on top of a chassis, i am considering releasing it into the wild to see if anyone can do good physics for it.

It seems that THE Monster Truck sim is a mod for BeamNG :
