Rennsport Steam Page Goes Live, No Launch Date Yet

A month after going to Open Beta, Rennsport has launched its Steam page. When the sim will exit its current Epic Games-only status is not known yet, however.

Rennsport finally made the jump to Open Beta in July 2024 after countless memes about key drops had been created by the sim racing community along the way. What did not change with this transition was the platform the sim is currently available on - it can still only be downloaded and played via the Epic Games Launcher.

With most other titles being available on Steam, this has prevented some sim racers from giving Rennsport a try in its Open Beta form. Prior to the Open Beta update, however, the third Radio Check episode published by the sim's developers already talked about making Rennsport available on Steam as well.


It would seem that this is not too far off anymore. The Rennsport Steam page has gone live, but it does not include a launch date yet - only the often-seen "Coming soon". Players can wishlist the game via the page already, however.

The content included is also listed, and it comes as no surprise that it is the same cars and tracks - including the Founder's Pack DLCs - that can be found in the Epic version. Anything else would have honestly surprised us anyway, as the compatibility between the Epic and Steam versions is an absolute must, of course.

I got a key for the closed beta back in July 2023 and despite my best intentions, I just can't get on with it.
Got all the updates when they were released and spent as much time as I could, or was prepared to spend, using it. Unfortunately after the latest open beta release it stopped working completely for me and I haven't bothered to reinstall from scratch.
I've added to my Steam Wishlist though just to see how it progresses, but does the sim racing world really need another product?
 
Whilst it looks like just another jack of all trades simulator I'm going to wait until they finish their physics and open up the set ups and have another go at it... I like what they've done to date, but it needs more time...

Fixed set up racing just doesn't really scratch the itch so it's hard to come back to... It's a little better than hearing other people are running on default set ups... But it's still negating a lot of what makes sim racing great...

To me, yes, we can welcome other SIM, but, they have to offer a marked improvement in some form at the very least, if not something genuinely new and innovative.
Rennsport, offers nothing new and lacks basic features like AI. The driving is fine, but nothing special.
The only ace in Rennsport sleeve, IMO, is that it appears to be modeable.

No, because
1. I have a lot of fun with my sim and I'm happy.
2. Same vehicles, same routes.
3. It's an alpha or beta. Or who knows what phase this game is in right now.
4. I'm definitely not waiting until a full version is finally released where an LMdH is a classic car.
5. I don't see a fully operable VR cockpit on the horizon.

So why buy a sim that does the same thing as all the others?
Yes, yes, the physics will probably be a colossal game changer.
All other sim physics are good, better, best. Until now.
Our sim has a physics for which the word to describe it has yet to be invented.
Graphically, it will probably be on the same level as all the Transformers or superhero films and
Godzilla will be relegated to a dwarf.
Sound-wise, this sim will probably surpass "Saving Private Ryan", "Black Hawk Down" & " Pearl Harbour" and that without supporting a complete DTS system.
Even if all of that were true, no VR cockpit included, no purchase.
The technology is there, other genres already doing it. So it can't be that difficult.
I miss real innovations and not just a new cover.
Maybe I'm just not easily excited anymore because of my age and my sim experience.

Hm. Think I got a reminder mail from Rennsport mid june about my feedback...don't remember I requested as a tester...winter time, spring and early summer most busy time in my life. Would've loved to be beta tester, but now time is slipping on me again speaking sim time, unfortunately...

You are looking at a project with Rennsport... A project similar to what Reiza is trying to finish with AMS2 on the Madness engine...

Rennsport is merging the physics of rFactor 2 with the UE5 graphics... So it's going to be a few years yet, hence it's missing so much that is needed in a title...

Which also means the physics have a lot of potential to be better than they are... Which to me it already drives better than ACC or AMS2... And the devs are being really open about this process, which is a rare sight in sim racing, there hasn't been any "this is reality you're wrong" type marketing...

The FFB is great outside of the middle of a corner where it goes numb, which is due to a weakness of their current tyre model... They have some awesome flatspot FFB and I can tell what the car is doing very clearly outside of that mid corner issue...

Much like LMU I prefer this method of development... Rather than having broken features sitting everywhere in a title, they're focusing on getting the physics and MP right first... Which as Reiza is showing takes a long time when you are merging 2 engines like this...
