RaceRoom Goes Sideways: Drifting To Be Added In 2025

After a very busy Summer including its biggest update yet, RaceRoom looks set to keep up its extensive refresh - which will also include drifting in 2025.

With its big September update, RaceRoom broke new ground - for the first time, historic tracks would be available in the sim due to the addition of Diepholz, AVUS and classic Hockenheim. Developer KW Studios is eager to conquer more uncharted territory, however: Drifting is set to arrive in the sim in 2025!

As early as April 2024, the studio had already been experimenting with the discipline. At ADAC SimRacing Expo 2024, the upcoming mode was available to test on a motion rig, previewing what lies ahead. As the teaser implies, the Driftbrothers' BMW E30s were at the visitors' disposal for going sideways. Indeed, the cars have been created based on input and feedback of Johannes and Elias Hountondji.

We had a brief try of RaceRoom's sideways content and found it to be quite challenging, so it looks like it is not going to be a matter of jumping in and immediately pulling off impressive drifts. Instead, practice seems to be the name of the game - we are already looking forward to giving the upcoming mode a closer look as soon as we can.

Just this week, KW Studios has deployed another update to RaceRoom, further overhauling the title's graphics, as well as updating the Salzburgring and Hungaroring to 2024 specs.

What do you make of the RaceRoom drifting teaser? Let us know in the comments below and join the discussion in our RaceRoom forum!

in last 2-3 years audio in this game declined and many of newly released cars has some sort of sound glitches, idk why is that but I'm tryin to report it on discord and hopefully it will be improved
the only thing that is kinda weird to me is how these passed quality checks like that and nobody cared about it or doesn't bother enough to report it - maybe most people play on speakers instead of headphones because it's much harder to notice it on speakers 😒
Please, let me know about these sound glitches and I'll fix it as much as possible. Since I started in SimBin in 2007, I commited myself to provide the best sounds possible, and I think everyone can see that the audio area improved continuously since then. But sadly, perfection is not part of this world and issues can always happen, sometimes they're extremely hard to detect depending on the gameplay conditions or games settings. Thanks for helping us by reporting those glitches ;)

I heard from one "tester" that it's being forwarded "higher" but if u have no idea about this then maybe it isn't so would be GREAT if u "higher" guys could interact with us sometimes in these help topics like Thomas do in these related to the graphics or VR
I know studio is small, u working hard and time is limited but it would help for sure especially when 98% of testers also doesn't interact with normal users that creating these topics or even don't give any sign that they somewhat "processed" the report which also is annoying
would be amazing to sometimes get simple feedback from people that working on these issues directly because atm I'm not even sure is it worth to hunting these sounds related things since for eg Andi said he don't hear the issue I point so he completely ignored it, other guy said that he can hear them and forwarded it but his last interaction in this thread was months ago and I found few other affected cars since then and in these 4 months since I created the thread the only car that was changed is the McLaren 570s which btw still have the issues which I won't breakdown here since it's all in this linked thread

Part of drifting's identity is the customisation, this includes engine and body - with R3E, you can't do any of this. I cannot see how this is going to work

Sorry, I cannot access the Discord topic through this link for some reason. Although, just to clarify, the issues you reported have been escalated to me, which is the reason why I made a new 570s sound, but for the others cars, I'm not sure we're talking about the same ones. Could you tell me in which topic this conversation was happening and the message number aswell? Thanks ;)

issues with sound in a bunch of cars - is the name of this topic in help on Raceroom discord
idk why this link doesn't work for u - it redirects me when I open it in the browser, it's direct link to first post in the thread
this one is link to the thread not specific post maybe it will work if not just search for the title https://discord.com/channels/254906072748261376/1253923823498035270
at this point I provided 8 examples (but probably will find some more since I didn't tested many of the cars yet) with similar issue to that one was happening in 570s before the last change that introduced different kind of weird sound that I didn't heard before in any other example

After giving it a shot at the expo I am really surprised, it felt really good. Coming from drifting in AC I had zero issues to get going.

The partnership with RB drift brothers is good as well since they have been running their own servers for AC for some time already.

R3E was my go to for several years. My first multiplayer racing was in R3E, also my last. It's where I learned "people" are not fun to race against because I can't trust them. It got to the point I could tell by a users country flag if I was going to be punted in T1. I didn't/don't enjoy racing with my rear view mirror. R3E had really good AI and I ended up spending a lot of time racing against them. Then I got bored of that and spent hours doing leaderboards. But long loading times, Error 13's (if I remember correctly), always online, and the focus on the Europeans turned me off over time. For me, R3E will probably always rank right up there as one of my favorite sims. It looks like they're trying to reinvigorate it and that's great and I truly wish them success. So much content for 50 bucks.
I was enamoured with R3E for a time too, but although the updates are improving it, it's taken a bit of time to get back used to it again.
Certainly I've found AMS2 a game I can drop back into easily without having to re-learn it's nuances like I do with R3E.

Having said this, The DTM stuff in R3E is fantastic. The new 1995 set is truly epic, the 2013 stuff with DRS is awesome and I found that the 2022 series was a fast track to GT3 cars in that game.

I'd recommend trying the new 1995 DTM stuff for sure - it may well rekindle your love of the game!

Well, I am a member, but the issue is with Discord itself. It won't let me access this topic using this link for some reason. Anyway, I did find it in the Discord app. Thanks ;)
