iRacing to introduce Clio Cup

cliocup.jpg
Twitter users who follow iRacing's account have probably already seen this pop up in their timeline: a picture of Clio Cups racing, nose to tail, as you would expect it from that kind of one make series.

The reveal is in line with all the recent teasing by the service, with just a picture and no more info on the thing or its release date - although the car seems ready and functionnal from the picture, so we should probably expect a release very soon.

The Clio Cup, through all generations, has always been known as a spectacular racing series with fierce battles, and in old fashioned touring car racing style, a good amount of bent steel after each event. The current generation, with the latest package, outputs 200hp from a 1330cc turbocharged engine - it doesn't use the Clio RS 1.6 engine - mated to a SADEV 5 speed sequential gearbox, and weights 1030kg unloaded. The cars race on Michelin slicks and non adjustable suspension, which certainly explains why you often see their rear ends have a mind of their own on corner entries. Yes, they're still front wheel drive.

This new addition provides more entry level content for beginners to hone their racecraft, but could also attract more experienced drivers who are looking for a quick fix of adrenaline.

Its not as bad as you think and as bad as Le Mans Virtual has made it seem. I have done about 100 races with LowFuelMotorsport in rf2 and have not been disconnected once or had some other server issue. Collisions/contacts also seem fine and they have improved the track limits system a lot recently.

But I dont want to get into a "best sim" discussion, its just that the original post said iracing was not being developed and then someone came in and said "this is the same for other sims" and that last thing is just not true.
Your wasting your time replying, this guy is as anti RF2 as you can get. The clio cup looks interesting, but the iRacing driving experience is well below the other sims for me and LFM + some leagues in RF2/ACC are giving me the multiplayer and the driving fun so I will pass.

All I want is Group C, GT1, and DTM cars in iRacing... we already have plenty of slow/close racing cars arleady... how about the ultra-fast and powerful cars that are difficult to master and sounds the best? :)
Sounds cool in theory but in the real world "simracers" are too afraid of fast cars.

Is like AMS2 multi-player, the game have lots of fast cars, but at the end of the day 90% of the servers will be running the same boring GT3 cars all over again and servers with faster cars are a joke because people can't drive it right.

For iRacing will be a waste of money and time focusing too much in hard to drive overpowered cars. Few people will buy, even less will "master" then.

No I disagree, these sims have at least all the things he complains about. At least for rf2 there is also development on other core features people want. Im not saying its fast, but they are doing stuff.
so does AMS 2. both rF2 and AMS2 evolved a lot in recent years

I agree.Much as I would like the Group C cars to come to Iracing because I like the cars, they dont make for great racing. It seems that anything faster than a GT3 is not really controllable or most of us do not have the talent to drive them without flying off the track or crashing into cars that are being lapped. The Mercedes F1 in Iracing is a great car & fun to drive but i would not even bother trying to race it in an officlal race in Iracing. The races look awful outside the top split.
Clios are much more fun for the majority of sim racers.

Introduce Tires management ? Tires Physics ? Rain drop and many more ?
iRacing is a joke , 10 years...... they cannot respond to the principals demands of the drivers cause all the marketing around the game is bullshit .
You dont speak for the drivers, at least a minority, the drivers already spoke with their wallets and the amount of them over at iracing.

I am pretty sure that when iRacing releases the rain feature, they won't have to disable it when 30+ cars join the server. And they will be able to hold 24h races with rain and no red flags.

But they won't release it before they can be sure of it. Because THAT would be a joke.....................

Gotta love this, I’ll certainly dust off my pc and have a few months of this, more sims need to have this kind of thing. I used to host mini/brands indy races all the time, and the Clio cup races of the btcc calendar were never without drama

Clio V is considered slow and boring among real life drivers which I know, Clio IV was much better, Clio III was legendary :) But I guess this one will find it's audience.

GT1 we have, they don't go official often but the Corvette C6.R GT1 & Aston Martin DBR9 GT1 are both in the sim. The Corvette is indeed a very fun and rewarding car to drive
Group C we don't have exactly but we do have the Nissan GTP ZX-T which is a contemporary of the Group C dominating Porsche 962 racing against it in IMSA.

DTM we're probably unlikely to see but if you want a difficult to master touring car could I suggest the Australian V8 Supercars. Very powerful with not quite enough grip and a locked differential.

The future reality is that Clios will be sold more in IRacing than in real life :p
Its one of the best sell in EU BTW.

It a good addition to the basic cars. I like racing with Vee, GR86 and now Clio because it is cars I could afford in real life for casual racing...

Some seem to feel so determined to be unhappy until a sim reaches "their" definition of perfect or represents "their" priorities.

If you like another sim better, than use it. Problem solved :)

My enjoyment of a title isn't dependent on whether everyone else likes it. That would seem like a pretty strange and useless dependency.

If one more person suggests that complaining on THIS forum is an effective way to reach the people at iRacing, I would LOVE to know what you are smoking :roflmao:

Let me give you a bag to scream into. You'll get better results!

Exactly this.
Really maybe get back on topic or even on track in your preferred game rather than arguing endlessly.
Loved Clio races in pc2 owned one irl hope iracing members enjoy them.
