Gran Turismo 7 Update increases rewards

GT7 update.jpg
The latest Gran Turismo 7 update has landed and this update will hopefully address concerns and criticism that has been received from fans over the last few weeks.

Rewards for many racing events have been increased, and there’s a bunch of new race events to take part in.

Endurance races have been added as missions, each running for 1 hr and awarding up to 1.2 million credits. The great thing about these missions is there are actually 8 of them to take part in.

Additionally, there are new World Circuit missions appearing on Le Mans, Sardegna, and Tokyo Expressway, that focus on World Touring cars.

Whilst this update may address some of the criticism that has barraged GT7, it does not appear to address the other issue that requires players to be online to play 90% of this game.

The update is available now and you find the full patch notes on the next page of this article.

Do you think this update is enough to please the critics?

I have an issue in the car settings where the units are displayed as metric for settings that have metric or imperial unit options, despite my settings being set to imperial (I play the US version of the game, which has Imperial units as default for most stats)

Speed is shown in mph on the left side of the settings screen, yet in the gear ratios setting option the speeds are in km/h, which doesn't seem right... Mixtures of metric and imperial in a US version of a game are strange for me, because many US gamers don't understand metric

If a game BSODs every 10 minutes, do you think the correct solution to that is a) fix the BSODing entirely so it never happens b) adjust it to only BSOD every 11 minutes ?

These "our game is a dull and tedious grind that is literally designed to be so bad that players will pay money to avoid playing it, but we adjusted it to be a little bit less dull and tedious grind" kind of adjustments are most definitely b) category.

How about removing the microtransactions and always online completely, for starters.

An unpopular opinion, I know:
The whole idea of grinding, buying, selling, upgrading, etc... makes the game feel so childish and toyish (as a mobile game). I know there's nothing objectively wrong with that, but I prefer the open approach of all the sims out there. Grab any car, on any track, and drive.
I tried GTS back in the day on my PS4 pro and just couldn't make myself like it although I was forcing it. It was all AC and PC2 and DR/2.
Now on PC, I have everything available to me.

I play this sort of stuff for escapism not grinding for money. I want to pretend I was born in money and I can damn well buy what I want, not to spend my days earning money like the real world!

Cars being prizes for winning championships or races I can go with but we all know that Sony have turned the grind into real world money because people can't be bothered with it and will give in. It's a very rare occasion I will buy DLC. I usually just wait until the GOTY release, especially with actual games. Do not give in to temptation!

Ohhhh good. Yesterday I've got an invitation from Lamborghini with a special offer. Buy this for 3.6mill but I'm only at level 14 and haven't got much credit yet, and still needs to upgrade my car's to potentially win to gain more credits. But hey no worries we could sell you those credits for $$$

Nope just nope Fony.

I always wondered what exactly is the issue with always online ?
Only things I can think of is the PSN+ subscription to begin with , and the fact that If servers are down, you might not be able to play , but is there something else im missing ??

In this age when so many people even sleep "online" with their phones in their hands , i find it bit surprising to be complaining about this aspect of a gameplay , but as I said, maybe I'm totally missing something

In my opinion the problem is, that you can't play them anymore if they shutdown the servers one day. I do sometimes play games which are nearly 20 years old and i wouldn't bet you can do that with all of the always-on games from this day. In addition I don't see any real benefit from always on for the singleplayer part.

Premium
Does this remind anyone of the EA Battlefront 2 fiasco where they went too far and then due to outcry pulled back and made things easier to advance. At least this doesn't have "Loot Box" issues.

I'll always be thankful to GT for getting me into sim racing at various points in my life.

Sure I've dropped GT at times, and picked it back up again. It was a fractious relationship, but that was me. It was not that GT did anything fundamentally wrong in my eyes.

However if I have one message to send to GT today it would be this - "this time it's definitely you, not me - I'm out - the shark has been jumped."

I am not someone who grinds and HAS TO get all of the cars or else the world shatters. But I stopped playing after the nerf patch just so see how the situation evolves after the huge backlash. Now I will have a good reason to turn on the game again as it seems to be heading the right direction. Hopefully PD steps it up in the live service as well adding more and more events (and content) after the Cafe mode is done.

GT7 gets a lot of criticism, even seen from comments above (and probably below). But there is something about the presentation in GT games that gives me a feeling that no other racing game/sim does.

thats just how gran turismo is and you kinda just have to get used to it unfortunately

You had a good run PD, and thank you for sparking my love of racing games 25 years ago. But it's really time to put GT out to the pasture. Please, before you lose all respect. This is not how we want to remember you.

Is this worth playing? I'm balls deep in AC right now, but curious if I should give this a go for $80
Now that the credits issue is sorted (almost feel sorry for the whales), I'm once again willing to back up my earlier statement that this is probably the best game in the series since GT4 at least. I find a lot of sim racers sell GT short because they're PC only and the game is console only, but if you like AC specifically this game is in the same wheelhouse. Online infrastructure is working well again after some early gremlins, and the AI especially in custom race is actually quite good as long as you don't throw multiple chicanes at them (so Bathurst and Le Mans are their weaker tracks).

Just be ready to grind out the early game if you're itching to drive certain tracks in particular (you have to unlock most of them through the menu books), but in regards to cars you can buy whatever you want pretty early now that track experience pays big. The only money grinding needed now is if you want to truly collect them all pokemon style.

Whether this is all worth $80 is another question as I know that's a pretty big chunk of money to throw at one game, but if you do spend it you're unlikely to be disappointed.

so I wonder who is using Lemans 8 lap race to grind money ? :)
it's actually quite fun race with rain coming in at various times , but have to say the transition isn't that smooth , sped up weather probably doesn't help it , but yeah, not a bad way to make extra $$$ in somewhat fun race

Not being able to play a game whenever servers are down, which is very often in many games, is more than bad enough. Online services are ubiquitous these days, and yet the gaming industry is shockingly incapable of providing reliable online services. They make their games rely on online services even for singleplayer features that don't need online for anything, and yet at the same their online services are astonishingly unstable and unreliable. That is a really terrible combination.

I imagine this might greatly depend on where you live ? In all my years of online only games, I recall only just like one or two instances I wanted to play and I couldn't , one of which was Diablo3 at launch
there are so many other games to chose from when the one you wanted to play is down
but yeah, would be good if they had offline mode, so that you can still do something

part of the always online is to reduce amount of cheating , or ripped off copies , so I understand both sides

making game is a very complex and complicated process, that lot of games really oversimplify
