McLaren iRacing fans, rejoice! For no longer do you have to make do with a long-since made redundant MP4-12C GT3, as the 720S GT3 is on its way in time for 2024 Season 4!

The GT3 line-up on iRacing is about to gain yet another member. The Corvette and Ford Mustang GT3 cars having been added in the most recent build, they joined the Ferrari 296 GT3, Mercedes-AMG GT3, Audi R8 LMS EVO II GT3, Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO, BMW M4 GT3 and Porsche 992 GT3 R. With the Mustang getting added, the long-since obsolete Ford GT was retired from the GT3 class on iRacing.

But the one car that stuck out like a sore thumb was the McLaren MP4-12C GT3 which had been out of circulation in real life GT3 racing since the mid-2010s. Now though, the 'flamethrower' will finally get its long-deserved retirement as there is a new McLaren GT3 on the way, the 720S GT3 Evo.

Canadian-based IMSA SportsCar Championship team Pfaff Motorsport have been racing the 720S GT3 Evo since the start of 2024 after previously running Porsches. They have enjoyed two second place finishes this season in the GTD Pro category at Laguna Seca and in the 6 Hours of the Glen.

Pfaff were the ones to drop the unmistakable screenshot of the car in an iRacing pre-render image on Twitter. The contents of their tweet - as well as a iRacing themselves retweeting the post - seem to confirm that the car will arrive in time for the start of 2024 Season 4, which puts the release estimate for September 3, the start of the current season's week 13 when all new content is traditionally added to the service.

With the end of 2024 Season 3 getting closer, iRacing will undoubtedly begin to slowly show the cars and tracks being added in time for next season. With the McLaren being on its way, perhaps more cars from IMSA and endurance racing can be expected in the future.

Nice to see one of the most popular classes on the sim brought more upto date. I think the Mclaren was the last real standout in terms of being mis-matched on age.

Hopefully also means a bump in the IMSA car count for Petit Le Mans to make the most of it.

Is the MP4-12C not already in the IMSA line-up? If not then I would hope they do. But they've got a few more cars they'll inevitably end up adding.

Lamborghini SC63 and Aston Martin Valkyrie LMH for starters. Plus I pray the Garage 56 NASCAR is added to IMSA.

The MP4-12C was removed from IMSA a while back due to unique model limits, but retained in the GT3 only series.
They've been increasing the limit steadily over recent updates though so hopefully they will again.

The Lamborghini SC63 and Aston would certainly be nice additions. I guess it'll come down to licensing and for the Aston how much data they are willing to share, since the Lamborghini is a common chassis based LMDh car I think that's probably an easier task.

The Garage 56 NASCAR would be odd to add since it never ran in IMSA. And honestly was only ever a marketing/testing demo when it ran at Le Mans last year.

Well regarding the NASCAR, it may have never ran in the real life IMSA series but it ran in a major endurance race so I'd love to see it in the endurance series on iRacing.

At least personally I wouldn't want to see it in there, there is no NASCAR class in sportscar racing and it would take the iRacing series further from something that makes sense as IMSA.
Yes I know sim racing can bend the rules but it is nice to have a platform that tires to be close to what the real series run.
Maybe as a car in LMU since that has the 2023 event.

And honestly I was there in 2023 at Le Mans. It was a cool side show but added nothing of substance to the race and when I went this year I did not feel the race was lacking for the car not being there on track.

Well then thankfully if it did get added, you would not have to drive it. I on the other hand would love to, especially in the upcoming Daytona 24 hours.

I mean yes I understand there are people who would find it cool, but that completely side steps anything about iRacing trying to have an IMSA series that makes sense as a parallel to the real world one
Right only the only cars in the iRacing Daytona 24 that aren't in the real one are at least eligible and fit into the real world class structure of IMSA

It's at least a lot more grounded within reality than getting let's say a single seater to compete in endurance races.

Finally! Will be nice to race this car in a sim with real physics!
yeah, trying to big up iRacing for its physics doesn't really work. It's MP system, yep...physics, not so much. Actually, the braking is really good, but the FFB is still ****. And it's just not that fun to drive. Maybe real life isn't fun either, and that's what they are aiming for, but the real racing drivers sure look like they enjoy it.
