WHO ARE YOU SUPPORTING THIS WEEKEND?

Formula One visits the legendary Silverstone Grand Prix circuit this weekend for the 2024 British Grand Prix. One of the most hostile settings for non-native drivers, the Silverstone crowd always cheer on their local heroes to the best of their ability.

Have you recovered from Austria yet? Neither have I. After the controversy between Max Verstappen and Lando Norris, the British Grand Prix is the worst possible next event for the Dutchman. Norris heads into this weekend with a strong home crowd backing. Verstappen however, as he is well used to by now, heads to a hostile environment at Silverstone.

Heading into this weekend's British Grand Prix, the spotlight is clearly on the Norris-Verstappen rivalry. Could we get a repeat of the Verstappen clash with Hamilton at Silverstone in 2021? Whilst the Dutchman's fans continue to defend their warrior against the papaya army, other people up and down the grid have been making changes.

Besides the Austrian calamities at the front of the field, there were several other triumphs in the hills of Spielberg. Nico Hülkenberg scored a fantastic sixth-place finish for the Haas outfit with his teammate not too far behind him. This was Haas' first double points finish of the year, and it was the feel-good story of the weekend. Could this be a turning point for Haas?

Oliver Bearman Signs For Haas

Speaking of Haas' success, the signing of Ferrari academy driver Oliver Bearman is the icing on the cake for the American outfit after having a strong showing in Austria. The young Brit will be the fourth driver on the grid to fly the Union Jack in 2025.

Bearman to Haas was one of the worst-kept secrets in the Formula One paddock, but regardless of that, his debut in a full-time seat next year is an exciting prospect.

After his fantastic debut for Ferrari in Saudi Arabia earlier in the year, the young Brit has been linked to Haas with rumours floating around at every Grand Prix. This weekend, the rumours have finally been put to bed and we will get to see Bearman take to the grid for more than just a one-off in 2025.

Red Bull Debut Fan-Designed Livery

Coming off a difficult Austrian Grand Prix, the current constructors championship leaders Red Bull have debuted a one-off fan-made livery for their home race this weekend. Technically entered as an Austrian team, their base is located only a short drive away from Silverstone in Milton Keynes, so the team's personnel will likely consider the track home grounds.

As for the livery, whilst not a huge amount of change, the subtle red accents on the side pods, and front and rear wings are a distinct addition to the usual design.

"In our 20th season in the sport, it is a timely tribute to years gone by and I can’t wait to see the Red Bull charge out at Silverstone this weekend” - Christian Horner, Red Bull Racing's Team Principal, told Formula One.

Who are you supporting this weekend? Will you be at the British Grand Prix? Let us know in the poll above and down in the comments below!

I'm super stoked for this race. After how well McLaren are doing I have a feeling we're in for a good one. Lando is hungry. He wants a win and he wants a Silverstone win. Oscar is my guy but seeing Lando win is just as nice.

I would love to see the Brits go nuts over Lando, Lewis or George winning though. (I'd mention Alex, but we all know Williams ain't in that running, sadly)

Silverstone is always a good one though. Personal favorite track of mine as well.

If we get a 3 or 4 team battle though.. mm yes please and thank you.

Gotta love a brewing rivalry before going to one of the classic venues on the calendar :D

Although in my opinion, that "new" first sector of Silverstone can still go right in the bin. I guess I'm sort of old now, but I do really miss Bridge - that config flowed so much better imo.

Why in hell's name are you driving a wedge between the Motorsports fans with anti British statements.

"One of the most hostile settings for non-native drivers"
To be honest, I find it deeply offensive that you feel the need to start off a column with a remark like that, if you just read the red top rags to get a prospective of a country's culture and standing then you're not in the right research area, you have to try harder.

This statement you've highlighted is very offensive to British fans and also absolute BS. If anything the British fans are always welcoming to any driver. They hold an on track event on Thursday evenings where all the drivers take part in what was yesterday a penalty shootout and the crowd cheered for every driver. No booing like you would get elsewhere if a brit was stood on the podium.

It's hard to understand. I only could attend to 2 F1 GP and the good thing about it was to be able to enjoy it with every driver's fans around. If young people is trying to turn motorsport into something like football rivalries, forget about it, we won't let you do it. Motorsport shouldn't be about flags, even if you feel nearer to the drivers from your country, you don't have to be angry at their rivals. I live in Spain, I'm used to fight the haters. I support Alonso, but my sec fav driver is Lewis right now.

Well i’m British and it’s a very well known fact that the British Grand Prix is one of the most hotly contested rounds in the championship.

The British fans are passionate, you’re just digging into the statement too far

No you've literally called it one of the most hostile settings for non native drivers which is absolute BS.

It’s the truth, the British fans love the British drivers. a portion of the fans boo anyone who beats them. It’s not ‘absolute BS’.
It's your truth, and you're free to hold to it, but just because you see it that way doesn't actually make it true.
Though I wonder if there's not an anti British agenda from our German overlords here... because

...this from @AntonySnook a little earlier in the week,
"If a British driver like Lewis was leading no body would care because that is considered amazing. Unless like me you are no longer English"

Yeah, McLaren looking very strong, and though I didn't see the practice runs I saw the results...Nico Hulkenberg in 4th? Checo needs to keep the momentum going and I don't know what held Max Verstappen up all the way down in 7th, I have no doubt he'll kick it up to the front row in qualli though.
Of my usual 8 drivers to watch for I've included Lando Norris, and I hope I don't get flack for being British and supporting a Brit* at the British GP, I have however included a Dane, a Spaniard, a Canadian, a German, a Dutchman, a Mexican and an Australian... allbeit one without a beard

* though it's not the reason I support him.
