Assetto Corsa Evo: Supposed New Screenshot Out, VR "From Day Zero" Likely

Set to launch later in 2024, fans are still guessing what exactly Assetto Corsa Evo could offer. A new Kunos screenshot shows the interior of a road car.

UPDATE JUNE 12, 18:30 UTC:

Kunos Founder Marco Massarutto also talked about the implementation of VR in Assetto Corsa Evo. The funcitonality is supposed to be in the game "from day zero", according to a translation available to Traxion.gg (welcome back, guys!), highlighting the importance of VR for the development team.

Many sim racers will breathe a sigh of relief as a result. VR is one of the strong points of the original Assetto Corsa, while Assetto Corsa Competizione is struggling in this department due to it running on Unreal Engine. AC Evo, however, is supposed to be using a dedicated engine created for the game.

ORIGINAL ARTICLE JUNE 12, 09:22 UTC:

The name has been known since the release of the Nürburgring-Nordschleife vor Assetto Corsa Competizione, but sim racers are still left in the dark other wise - the big question is: What is going to be in Assetto Corsa Evo?

While the original AC originally took a sandbox approach (which continues to this day thanks to the extensive amount of mods for anything imaginable), ACC is laser-focused on GT racing - hardly surprising, as it is the official game of the GT World Challenge.

However, this led to a lot of speculation of the direction of AC Evo already. Will it be similar to ACC with its focus, or will it return to the roots of the series? Well, a screenshot from developer Kunos Simulazioni themselves seems to hint at the latter, as the image posted by Italian gaming magazine multiplayer.it shows the interior of a road car - a Hyundai i20N, as sim racing content creator Jardier (who recently also returned to racing on real circuits) quickly determined.

AC Evo - or not?

However, it has to be noted that multiplayer.it themselves are not entirely sure whether or not it is actually an AC Evo shot, as Kunos did not provide more info. The shot follows a conversation the magazine had with Kunos Founder Marco Massarutto during a live stream, in which the topic of manual versus automatic gearboxes was discussed - with Massarutto clearly favoring the former.

Should it indeed by an AC Evo image (and why would it not be at this stage), this seems to indicate that road-going cars will be part of AC Evo, so a mix between "normal" and racing cars could be what awaits in the new title. Interestingly, Hyundai has only just announced a closer cooperation with Gran Turismo for "various sim racing activities" - could the manufacturer be about to tackle sim racing on a broader scale?

Its line-up would certainly lend itself well to this endeavour. Hyundai's N brand focuses on performance and racing cars, such as the Hyundai Elantra N TCR or the i20 N Rally 1 Hybrid, the latter being the South Korean marque's entry into the World Rally Championship. The car is leading the WRC standings in the hands of Thierry Neuville at the time of writing.

In circuit-based competition, Hyundai was one of the most successful manufacturers in the World Touring Car Cup (WTCR), powering three of five drivers champions from 2018 to 2022. Since 2023, the championship is called TCR World Tour, and Hungarian Norbert Michelisz was triumphant in an i30 N TCR.

Off the track, Hyundai currently has seven N models listed, both with electric motors (IONIQ 5) and combustion engines.

Either way, exciting times lie ahead for sim racers. Make sure to head to our Assetto Corsa Evo forum to discuss everything about the upcoming sim while we keep our eyes peeled for more news, teasers and rumors.

Yes, this would be an 'Evolution' progression of the original AC with all of the 'SOL / PURE' / 'Content Manager' and other mods baked in making 'AC evo' possibly a great single package and easier to use where everything is under one roof when purchased, so to speak.:geek:;).(personal opinion only)
Can they bake in such items? Kunos didn't develop any of them , if I remember correctly, They would have to form agreements/pay monies to each person who created those apps.

Unfortunately, no one on our team speaks Italian and a translation was not available earlier today - but that part has been added as an update to the article :) Any chance we can get in touch for possible future Italian translations? That's not supposed to be sarcastic, btw, could be very helpful!
deepl.com should be more than enough to translate from italian to english

I was wondering if we could have more concrete news, such as system requirements, cars, tracks, release date.
101% all studios hide their heads in the sand.
They should be truthful what it really take :x3:

Minimum requirements for full grid, full settings + VR + Triples in 3 sets of resolutions low-mid -high.

Like ISI S397 revolve around 1080p and default settings ! lol what a joke :coffee:

I'm probably overlooking something, but where is it mentioned to be AC Evo and not ACC?
The HUD in the bottom left is the ACC HUD and without logging in, I don't see any mentioning of Evo.
Maybe, but I highly doubt it because the car in that photo is a Lotus Emira road car.

He also talks about a "new sim" in one of the quotes

Well, they can if they reach that agreement, in the past Kunos has already turned mods into official content (and they even hired modders for the studio or some projects)

Did some research and yep, it's a Lotus Emira.
I guess the Overtake guys are under NDA about that, but are allowed to write some sneak peak hype articles.
Maybe René didn't even tell the others, that it's AC Evo.

The Kunos Dev team are professionals, so I can not see why they could not develop something of a similar nature and include it in AC evo:geek:
...just look at AMS2 with Mods being developed from the ground up and able to be included, plus having Weather already baked in with the Madness Engine....oh, snap!;)

If there is one thing you and all of us ever learn about racing sims, it is this:
Never EVER EVER EVER believe the minimum requirements to run a sim. You may get it to work, but it will never work well at the minimum specs most software companies promote. And what about the other stuff you mentioned? Say they announce a release date, what happens if the lead programmer gets in a car accident the next day and can't work on the project for months? What happens if the capital management company collapses and all their development funding vanishes? We can ask for ANYTHING, but anything can happen to snarl up the answers.

I own both the original Assetto Corsa, and Assetto Corsa Competizione. I spend a lot more time with the original Assetto Corsa. I have all the official DLC, plus it is heavily modded.

Why do I prefer original Assetto Corsa? Variety, and the ability to change things as I wish. I just "installed" an automatic transmission in a car that lacked an upshift profile today. And the huge variety of cars and tracks that I run would not be possible without community mods.

Competizione is very nice, but sometimes I want to do other things. Mods provide variety, and make for a game that will be around for a long time. Look at Bethesda Studios' "Skyrim". It's still going strong. It was released thirteen years ago. It's very mod friendly.

So if Kunos wants a title that will still be selling over a decade from now, Evo should support mods. If they want a title that will sell for three or four years max and then dry up, then don't worry about mod suppport. But start working on your next title as soon as you release Evo. Have to keep the revenue stream flowing, and there won't be much time without mod support.

We aim to have virtual reality on day zero,” said Massarutto, “One of the reasons why we believe in it so much… is also to offer more dedicated VR support because with Competizione, from this point of view, we struggled a lot. We worked with engineers from Epic [Games] and Nvidia, they came to work in our office with us for a while. In the end we found the best possible compromise. However, we know that the support in the first Assetto Corsa in terms of experience, performance and definition – which for simulated driving in VR is extremely important – is still a step above. Let's say... virtual reality fans can rest assured."

According to Massaruto, only 5-10% of AC pilots use virtual reality, but the development team is committed to supporting three-dimensional environments: “You could write in the disclaimer of a big game 'We'll have VR but not right away' and you'll find all the negative reviews because 'I bought it and there is no VR'. So, it was one of the first things we worked on in terms of rendering."

It is good to remember that work on VR support for the first Assetto Corsa began well before Oculus announced its headsets to the public: "We believed in it from the beginning, but it wasn't easy because it arrived in the middle of development ." A definitive release date is not yet known, but Marco reiterated that in "the summer we will have some news, from then on they will arrive in cascade".

For written stuff it works well, used it a bunch of times before - appreciate the advice regardless :)
The problem here was that it was what was said in the stream, and understanding that without knowing the language is extremely difficult.
Mate, Italian is easy, all you've got to do is think in your native language and then imagine there's an A or an IA on the end of every word. So as an example for you:

Wenna dua dieseia Methodeia verwendeta hasta, bista dua gleicha eina echta Italianischa Profia.

Simple.

Google Translate = If this method is used up, see two gleicha an Italian Profia.

Maybe Google Translate hasn't learnt that yet:p:roflmao:

This post is absolutely hilarious and, sadly, a prime example of the sheer idiocy that is rapidly infecting the sim racing community.

That’s the best you can do as an developer on the VRmode.
Introducing VR long time after the official releases, you can get a compromise that’s shows lots of performance or graphical issue's like in some flysims, where they first concentrated on monitor use. Choices that did have a negative impact later to a decent VR game play.

Why would they care about what you want? They care about what will bring more money. So its a matter of, is it more profitable to sell copies of AC1 for peanuts, or to keep selling content and DLC like iRacing, ACC, or AMS2? I guess we will soon find out.

I should add that i dont think they are in a great position financially. The parent company laid off people, and they are basically drip feeding info at an alarmingly slow rate.

Can people hack into their code to completely transform their game and get 60K on the process a month :) ... i say it would be poetic justice if it was the other way around now, but i prefer they do their own thing tbh...

And that screen could be taken on regular AC no one would notice anything different... so hoping for some more stuff that shows indeed what we are talking about.

Dovrei aggiungere che non penso che siano in un'ottima posizione finanziariamente. La società madre ha licenziato persone che fondamentalmente forniscono informazioni a goccia a un ritmo allarmante.
Instead, MSG is swimming in gold.

Come on Marco, you can do a bit better than this. Adopting the Sony/Yamauchi school of game marketing won't bring greatness.

:)

A few pics and 1 paragraph would offer light at the end of the tunnel. For its day, AC had a nice GFX engine.

AC1 small.jpg

I certainly wouldn't vote for cars needing 8-10 months each to build. Hopefully, the next 2-3 months will bring the start of regular updates.
