Set to launch later in 2024, fans are still guessing what exactly Assetto Corsa Evo could offer. A new Kunos screenshot shows the interior of a road car.

UPDATE JUNE 12, 18:30 UTC:

Kunos Founder Marco Massarutto also talked about the implementation of VR in Assetto Corsa Evo. The funcitonality is supposed to be in the game "from day zero", according to a translation available to Traxion.gg (welcome back, guys!), highlighting the importance of VR for the development team.

Many sim racers will breathe a sigh of relief as a result. VR is one of the strong points of the original Assetto Corsa, while Assetto Corsa Competizione is struggling in this department due to it running on Unreal Engine. AC Evo, however, is supposed to be using a dedicated engine created for the game.

ORIGINAL ARTICLE JUNE 12, 09:22 UTC:

The name has been known since the release of the Nürburgring-Nordschleife vor Assetto Corsa Competizione, but sim racers are still left in the dark other wise - the big question is: What is going to be in Assetto Corsa Evo?

While the original AC originally took a sandbox approach (which continues to this day thanks to the extensive amount of mods for anything imaginable), ACC is laser-focused on GT racing - hardly surprising, as it is the official game of the GT World Challenge.

However, this led to a lot of speculation of the direction of AC Evo already. Will it be similar to ACC with its focus, or will it return to the roots of the series? Well, a screenshot from developer Kunos Simulazioni themselves seems to hint at the latter, as the image posted by Italian gaming magazine multiplayer.it shows the interior of a road car - a Hyundai i20N, as sim racing content creator Jardier (who recently also returned to racing on real circuits) quickly determined.

AC Evo - or not?

However, it has to be noted that multiplayer.it themselves are not entirely sure whether or not it is actually an AC Evo shot, as Kunos did not provide more info. The shot follows a conversation the magazine had with Kunos Founder Marco Massarutto during a live stream, in which the topic of manual versus automatic gearboxes was discussed - with Massarutto clearly favoring the former.

Should it indeed by an AC Evo image (and why would it not be at this stage), this seems to indicate that road-going cars will be part of AC Evo, so a mix between "normal" and racing cars could be what awaits in the new title. Interestingly, Hyundai has only just announced a closer cooperation with Gran Turismo for "various sim racing activities" - could the manufacturer be about to tackle sim racing on a broader scale?

Its line-up would certainly lend itself well to this endeavour. Hyundai's N brand focuses on performance and racing cars, such as the Hyundai Elantra N TCR or the i20 N Rally 1 Hybrid, the latter being the South Korean marque's entry into the World Rally Championship. The car is leading the WRC standings in the hands of Thierry Neuville at the time of writing.

In circuit-based competition, Hyundai was one of the most successful manufacturers in the World Touring Car Cup (WTCR), powering three of five drivers champions from 2018 to 2022. Since 2023, the championship is called TCR World Tour, and Hungarian Norbert Michelisz was triumphant in an i30 N TCR.

Off the track, Hyundai currently has seven N models listed, both with electric motors (IONIQ 5) and combustion engines.

Either way, exciting times lie ahead for sim racers. Make sure to head to our Assetto Corsa Evo forum to discuss everything about the upcoming sim while we keep our eyes peeled for more news, teasers and rumors.

I wonder how sophisticated the physics model will be. Again a 5 point tire contact model in 2024 or something closing the gap to the benchmark sims...:D

I just hope this engine stands out from others and the sim releases as version 1.0, then we might get something decent out of the box.

On another note that knob and else what is visible have more quality and meshes than my whole freaking iRenting screen I am seeing.... yeah I got in to iRacing in search for good online experience and I am fighting to drive since visually every time I turn this game on I want to F puke..... F me.... I really do F hope ACE will have good and up to date ranking system like iRacing does or LFM.... And that it will be updated and that we will be getting seasons, championships and other events! And honestly I would be ready to pay for that game same as for iRenting since that one is just in a F 8bit realm with some smoothing and sharpening... I promise I will try and for sake of my money I will drive and try not to puke... cant wait for ACE!

There is great anticipation for Assetto Corsa EVO, the new driving simulator created by the Italian team of KUNOS Simulazioni arriving by 2024. Pierpaolo Greco, Francesco Serino and Alessio Pianesani of Multiplayer.it took advantage of the interview with Marco Massarutto, co -founder of Kunos, to find out as much information as possible on the new title.

During the chat, many interesting topics were touched on, such as how the panorama of driving games is evolving and where a series like Assetto Corsa fits in, which over the years has managed to conquer a large audience, even surpassing the expectations of the study. In this regard, it is interesting to note that around 40% of the total players come from consoles, demonstrating how even in this fringe of the market there is great demand for real driving simulations.

There was also talk of the growth of KUNOS Simulazioni after the great success achieved with Assetto Corsa and Assetto Corsa Competizioni, with the staff having increased over time, whilst still remaining limited to carry forward the team's vision in a cohesive manner. We are talking about just 32 developers, 95% of whom work remotely.

Regarding Assetto Corsa EVO, Marco Massarutto confirmed again that the game will be released in 2024, with news on the matter arriving during the summer: "Assetto Corsa EVO is absolutely a 2, but in reality it should be a 3, because the gap that exists between the first Assetto Corsa and EVO is enormous. Physics, graphics, sound, gameplay...". And when asked if by "gameplay" he is suggesting a career mode, Massarutto did not confirm but responded with "more, enough more".

We also talked about virtual reality and how the KUNOS Simulazioni team has always strongly believed in this, even before they arrived on the market, confirming that Assetto Corsa EVO will support VR viewers.

after watching the interview of marco massarutto i'm afraid with ac evo kunos wants to make a sort of gran turismo style game to pc..

I hope Assetto Evo will be a expansión licence of ACC, now with TCR class and more tracks and cars. I'll pay 30€ for a DLC with TCR on ACC. We don't need a new game especially if this Assetto Evo is for street cars, for me has zero interesting, but i'm hype if would be more licences for ACC, especially now game is more alive everyday from they introduces Mustang GT3 and Nordschleife

I don't think i have ever seen such a nice looking knob. Please give me beta access so i can look at the knob with 6dof headtracking VR headset

Did some research and yep, it's a Lotus Emira.
I guess the Overtake guys are under NDA about that, but are allowed to write some sneak peak hype articles.
Maybe René didn't even tell the others, that it's AC Evo.
Late to the party, I am sorry.
But great to see that someone came up with the right view on things.
For titles not even released or publicly shown yet, there are always a ton of NDAs and such. And in this specific case, I did not share anything I saw in italy with the rest of the team other than that picture, as we take NDAs seriously.

It would make it even harder for the rest of the team to write about any news/screenshot they can get their hands on if I would tell them something and then say "but you can´t write about it". Would leave no space for guessing or more importantly, additional research, which isn´t great.

ACE will need to bring something exceptional to the table to usurp his older brother.
The folks at KS are smart...they know that quite well, having been in the simulation business for years.
I remain optimistic for this title.

Can't wait to see the drivers left glove next!!
"The left glove on the default driver model appears to be an Alpinestars Tech 1 ZX V3. It remains to be seen whether the right glove matches or is of a different brand entirely, such as the much-rumored Sparco Tide"
