After its release date being announced recently, Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown is now playable on PC - a Steam demo has launched and is available until June 17.

Hands-on time for Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown! The upcoming title set for a September 12 release is now available in demo form via Steam, allowing players to gather their own experiences in virtual Hong Kong Island until June 17. The TDUSC demo is part of the Steam Next Fest.

And it is not exactly a small demo, either. The official Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown Twitter account shared what is available, and this includes nine of the map's 14 districts, 27 races, 25 quests, and 30 cars in total. 16 of them are buyable, the other 11 are available in Test Drive mode, in addition to three starter cars.

However, be aware that Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown comes with some quite hefty PC spec requirements, especially if you want to run the game on the ultra preset in 2160p.

I would never count on that. A demo or beta is always how the game will run at launch.
Ah, I remember the days of PS1 demos... Those all-black discs you got in gaming magazines that had demos to all sorts of upcoming games. We used to have a big stack of them, but they sadly disappeared when moving house, I think.

Those were usually a good indication of what the final game would be like as well, and that's 25 years ago. Of course, the difference was that on PS1, there were no patches to be deployed, so they had to nail the release version.

Free demo for a few weeks, brilliant, all game should offer that. No more relying on comments from others about aspects that may or may not be important to ourselves.
Release F1 24 for free for a few weeks, we will know if we like the handling or not using our own hardware.
Release LMU for free for a few weeks, we will know if we like the handling or not, it it crashes or not using our own hardware.
What are they afraid of?

It is like the subscription model to everything - they hope you buy and that way "test" and then forget to cancel / refund if you do not like it.

When was the last time a game nailed the release version? I'm quite happy for sims to evolve into better products or new physics /tyre models to be added but for normal games it's shocking how poor some games are on release.

Just red the specs and had a good laugh. And that for not even VR! Good one! Why would I drive this if at the same time I could drive something else in stereoscopic 3D? Thanks, but: no thanks at all. I'm out.
