Ian Bell's Straight4 Studios Launches Website, Showcases Key Staff

straight4.jpg
It seems like Straight4 Studios is going all in. Now they have released a website with a blog. Furthermore, they promised a monthly newsletter! What's more interesting, however, is the information that has already been published on the blog.

The first blog post on Straight4's website features two different interviews with key members of the development team for the upcoming title GTR Revival.

Before we dive into the post, the key takeaway is that it seems like the original team is really back together. Henrik Roos, one of the key people of SimBin back in the day, is the first person featured in this post.

The Key Personnel Introduced

As mentioned before, Henrik Roos is introduced as the Straight4 handling consultant.

If you don't know Henrik Roos, he has been a racing driver, especially known for early 2000s FIA GT racing.

His role at Straight4 includes translating how the cars feel IRL to the simulation of GTR Revival.

Furthermore, Straight4's Physics Director AJ Weber gets introduced. He "has gone on to work on many bestselling AAA-sim racers over the years". According to mobygames.com, he has been working on the first two Project Cars games in the physics department as well as Fast & Furious: Crossroads.

Physics Philosophies

What follows is an intricate introduction into the philosophy behind the direction the physics department is supposed to go.

The post goes into detail on how realism is supposed to be portrayed in GTR Revival. Furthermore, tyre models and the fact that the physics engine is built from the ground up get featured.

You can read the full blog post here on Straight4's official website.

What do you think of this approach? Is Straight4 getting you interested in the ongoing development of GTR Revival? Let us know in the comments down below!

Didn't you watch the first video?

It's not scripted, its AI generated, just like these new "chats" reply to things you ask them, so does AI generate the speech you are hearing.
It seems some people don't know what they're talking about. Still in the phase where it's cool to put everything down when most of us left that in grade school. It'll be fun seeing all the things that are fake or wrong with this throughout it's development just for the sake of trying to sound cool and edgy.

I've got no problem with Ian Bell, I backed Pcars2 and got more than my money back, The studio over stretched themselves creating so much content so ffb etc was i think overlooked and hard work for us simmers, Reiza have now proved that the Madness engine is good if fine tuned, Popracers FFB files makes Pcars2 so much better IMO. Pcars2 has so much content, I still play it today.
Sim racers: "Stop releasing so much content and focus on the physics!"
Also sim racers: *fill every sim racing forum with a 1000-page wishlist thread*

Thanks for the replies everyone. I'll do my best to refrain from hyperbole going forward, I've learned my lesson. GT Revival will be the most moddable, authentic sim ever created. Hold on to your hats and prepare to be blown away. xx
This is like groundhog day. Pretty sure you said all this stuff last time Ian. ;)
Anyway I'll wait and see what turns up but you would have to be 'slightly mad' to bet any money on it.

Ian Bell = biggest talker in history of games.

At the end we will get a arcade-mobile-game, like with Project Cars 3

This forum gets closer and closer to your regular youtube comments section, the level of trolling as been growing more and more unfortunately.

It seems some people need to make themselves aware of what a demonstration of concept is.

Its not trolling, It's just what they are, as nominated by the title of the video itself.

It seems some people need to make themselves aware that a demonstration of concept can have many forms.

As for the trolling comment, the post before mine i and the ones insulting Ian, am sure are very informative and on point...

Well, It has a definition. I'm just going to run with that.

Comment from anyone involved in the video would provide some clarity, I'd assume if it wasn't scrpited we would have heard from them by now.

Not knocking the concept, Even though I wouldn't want to hear race commentary, I would like a race engineer.

I drive virtual cars badly, I have little interest in also pretending to be an engineer and to also do that badly.

Wake me if it's any good... This doesn't seem all that promising if the physics guy from pCARS is leading the charge... Those weren't worth the time it took to install them...

Pcars1 was worth it for me tho xD, i got my initial investment 2x back.

Where can i invest? Last time I jumped that train I actually made a really good return on it. Looking forward what they will come up with.

that was back then in 2013 or so the funding model of the first project cars.
i dont know of any game right now with a similar funding model.
i think they stopped doing that for pcars 2 tho because apparently there were some issues with the government and that funding method of pcars1 might not have been 100% clean in their eyes. but i dont have details on that, its just that i remember how there was an investigation going on during development of pcars1.

I'm looking forward to it myself, but in the same way as I treat any other game/sim. I'll wait for release and watch some vids and even try a demo first, if it's what, or near what I want I 'll dig into my pocket.

I will not be jumping onto the hype train i will also not be jumping onto the hate train.
I couldn't get on the website for whatever reason so i do not know the details. I can only say i hope its a good sim with good vr support. If its more of a simcade that's ok just hope that is made clear so i can stop following. I would hope to see AC2 & this project making a good rivalry & moving us into another generation.

If it is a working Ai/ML generated in real time & not a proof on concept its very impressive but that is a big IF. I think i would like to see some clarification or we are well on the way down the hype tunnel.

I feel now simracing games were made without heart and soul, Indycar Racing 2 was released on 1998, It included tyre puncture, engine blown and a livery editor, 20 years after we only see ACC with the same, so why not simracing companies not get help from real drivers, and people working with It with entusiasm and being fans of real Motorsports, now release a Simracing game is just a matter of business, but without a base, entusiasm and love for the Motorsports you can only win disasters like Pcars3 or Grid 2019, in my opinión. So Ian Bell could sell smoke if he doesn't have a solid project counting with real feeling for Motorsports

We aren't in the future yet. In this case there are lines of codes that trigger a reaction when something happens. Just like in Pacman.
You give the AI a database of phrases and when it's triggered, it reads these with a synthetized voice generated on the fly, choosing the line to read according to the parameters predefined by the developer.
There is the possibility of the adaptive learning by the AI, but it happen always according to predefined rules, that set the patterns that the AI has to follow doing its things.
So when the AI listens to the phrase "I'm oversteering in turn 1", it picks the possible answer to the problem of oversteer within a bunch of phrases, choosing randomly, so the next time that will be triggered by the word "oversteer" it will pick a different one and won't sound scripted. It could be working this way.
How it recognizes the word that triggers it? In the same way that a program like Dragon Naturally Speaking recognizes your words and train itself to identify your tone of voice and pronunciation. It's nothing new: the good part is that it sounds pretty much human and that's of course is cool.

So, the times where a Tesla can start itself go for a ride by night, because it feels melancholic are still far. A monkey could do that, but not the AI. :)
What you are describing is the old way of doing it.

With the recent advances in AI, the answers are not layed out for the computer to read. They are generated out of data mining and info crunching IN REAL TIME. You can parametrize if you want the result to be always the same, or slightly different each time, to make it more "human", but most answers are generated by the AI itself, pulled from a pool of information that can be anything from a simple database to the the whole internet itself. Then the AI builds sentences (or even whole essays) based on key words in what you asked for. The speech construction is done all by itself.
