Automobilista 2 v1.6: Reiza Shows Multiplayer Improvements In Road Atlanta Test

The wait is not over yet, but Automobilista 2 v1.6 still appears to be on a great path: A replay of a multiplayer session by developer Reiza Studios shows both online and other developments of the incoming update.

With update 1.6, Automobilista 2 is due an extensive overhaul that affects essentially every area of the sim. Initially slated for a summer release, the update still has not deployed yet - but it seems like it cannot be too far off anymore. At least this is what a new video on the studio's YouTube channel implies.

The video shows a multiplayer test session in the v1.6 beta version, including both the IMSA GTP and GTD (read: LMDh and GT3) classes at Road Atlanta. The contest lasts for about half an hour and was hosted by Low Fuel Motorsports, one of the third-party multiplayer platforms Reiza is working with to improve the online part of AMS2.

While the main focus of the test was to show the developments in regards to netcode and the stability of multiplayer sessions with large grids (in this case a full 32-car field), it also includes other improvement, namely to the visuals and audio of the sim. It is worth noting that the session is shown in replay mode, too.

The sessions does appear to be stable and run smoothly, with a few exceptions. Early on in the video, an Alpine A424 can be observed to be moving erratically, called "warping" in the video, at one point due to the driver's high ping and the grid being comprised of drivers from around the globe.

Other insight includes the now much trickier nature of the LMDh cars, which we noticed in our hands-on sessions with the beta as well. While these prototypes do have a lot of downforce and grip, they are not on rails, something that Le Mans Ultimate also demonstrates quite well.

Progress For Online Modes

What is encouraging to see is that even once the slower GT3-class traffic becomes involved, things do no get messy netcode-wise. According to Reiza, LFM has received "overwhelmingly positive feedback from internal testers" from a number of multiplayer test sessions like the one in the video - which should bode well for the multiplayer side of things in AMS2.

After all, many sim racers seem to think a decent online experience is what holds Automobilista 2 back compared to the competition. Could this be about to change once version 1.6 is deployed? It certainly seems possible, and Reiza looks like it is taking its time to ensure things are working properly - even if that means the release target of summer might turn out to be summer in the southern hemisphere.

Well... the right time is the time we have. Or you recommend me to quit my job and/or leave my family just to be on Reizas schedule? lol
It's not Reizas schedule. It are the racers that are causing it.. But yes, I can imagine that it's an frustration if you look at the times that you want to race and that there are only empty lobbies at that moment. In the EU there are no issues in evenings and weekends, I can always find some great races. But maybe this is indeed different in for example Australia or the US or if you work in evenings.. Let's hope that 1.6 makes the multiplayer more populated.

ok I will try to not trash the game : LMU is destroying it ;)
How about you start to understand how opinions can be different than your own? :)
You keep on posting negative comments in threads where it is not "your" game.
We are a niche within gaming, how about we start empowering each other instead of the same old BS where you have to prove to everyone else that your game is the best. You can have a favorite, i dont care - i do as well - but i dont have to constantly nag about how bad other games are.

Totally agree and I blocked that idiot ages ago. He has nothing useful to say.

I am looking forward to @bobbykim's take on this update before i bother to re-install it.

This is so hard to read with the lack of grammar and punctuatuion. You need to reread before you click post. I cant even make heads or tails of what this individual is trying to say....?
What's hard to read is the Internet police ragging on somebody (who quite clearly doesn't use English as their first language) for not putting periods in the right places.

Seriously, life must be painfully dull and negative for somebody in your position. How about instead of publicly trying to humiliate the guy to appease your blue haired, alphabet ++ people you dm him and offer some feedback on how to better convey his message.

Maybe someone had his period ;)

C'mon we should all be a bit more friendly here.
If you take 5 people you get 5 different answers.
Instead of mutual respect and learning from each others ideas we rather take them down to prove we are right?
This is the last independent stronghold in simracing, lets keep it nice.

it's not opinion LMU drives far better than AMS2, sorry ;)

That is very arrogant of you to say, you simply dont accept that people have other opinions, hardware, views on what makes a good game?

Stop this nonsense about putting other people / games down. Its fine to voice your opinion, but only to be negative about other games is useless.
the pro teams use rF pro or rF2 cause it's professional, it's facts, no pro team use AMS2, it's facts too, it's nosense to not tell LMU is better.

I have been in Studio and worked with the devs, so i am very well aware of rfpro (which is not the same as rf2 btw)
You are still trying to say that everyone must think the same, feel the same and even want the same.
They do not! otherwise LMU would have been selling better and MSG not in massive issues - then we would report on one game and one game only.
We are not, because people are different and have different opinions and feelings and priorities. Why is iRacing so bigger if LMU is so much better. Why do i still prefer rf2 if LMU is so much better, its about what you prefer.

I understand you prefer LMU because your opinion is like that. Move along!

I don't understand. Reiza has been showing progress in all aspects of AMS2, physics, AI, graphics, content and now multiplayer, and there are still unsatisfied people, who may be even not AMS2 users. That's beyond comprehension. We get this amazing several years support for a game using and updating an advanced model abandoned by a much bigger developper and a huge AAA publisher / dev. One day or another simracing devs will quit simracing and develop arcade racing titles because simracers are so ungrateful. We will get what we deserve. Be careful fellows, you don't realise what future you are creating by being so negative.

Not personnally a fan of these new prototype cars (the Brazilian LMPs are better imo) and I would like more classic cars, but I'm fully in.

My only critic about this 1.6 version communication is about the modding : no news, although Thunderflash has been bringing Pcars2 content into the sim, but with bad sounds (not modded) and more or less satisfying physics. I understand modding should not be a priority until the game's physics are completed though. Please Reiza bring more classic content. But that's my taste, norhing about the sim, everything with 1.6 is a good piece of news.

The game in the video looks better, not sure if it is the weather quiet bad conditions or a rendering update. We are on the right path.

Don't abandon the game Reiza, as you didn't abandon AMS1, ignore those ungrateful people and keep on the good work.

You don't have clue what most pro teams use.
But rFPro is not one of them (as it not bringing anything new).
You can drive laserscans, but laserscans are super expensive and mostly outdated.
I work with some of the best pro teams on a daily basis.
Why AMS2 is not used, it's a closed system.
I'm sure with enough data & driver input you could make a perfect car in AMS2 too.
As can be done in rF1, AMS1, rF2 or AC - and yes, those are all used by pro teams currently.

OK, I'm starting to understand this forum site diversion since OverTake overtook from RaceDepartment;
News about a sim title should preferably be answered with mention of other sims, right?

Looking forward to the In-depth news review OT articles of the AC EVO, added a thread of 1000 in-depth posts on Accolade's 1987 Test Drive for C64.

OK, back on track.
Been away from my AMS VR sim racing in my real sim rig for far too long. Last night was just briefly out in the Lotus 23 at the Südschleife and the 1974 Corvette C3 at the Fontana RC, just for fun as record time attacks. I have to say that something good has happened, sim-wise.
And even without recalibrating in AMS2, just reinstalling soft/firmware for my T300RS-GT, T-LSM and T8HA's ie. just the same mappings as when I last VR raced AMS2 in my rig.
Much greater feel with the chassis and tires this time.
I dare not say whether it has been half a year or a whole year, I have had a lot to attend to, so it could easily be a year ago.
But at least a very nice progress, speaking the far perferable classic models.

Do you prefer licensed hardware?

  • Yes for me it is vital

  • Yes, but only if it's a manufacturer I like

  • Yes, but only if the price is right

  • No, a generic wheel is fine

  • No, I would be ok with a replica
