Formula 1 enters the season finale of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix with the driver’s championship leaders tied on points.

After a roller coaster ride of a season in F1, the final event of 2021 will be held in Abu Dhabi and will decide the championship battle between Max Verstappen or Lewis Hamilton. The two drivers are even on points entering the race.

Verstappen has won more races this year than Hamilton, so if the two end up finishing even after this race due to neither scoring points, the championship would go to Verstappen. Momentum seems to be with Hamilton after back-to-back-to-back race wins in Brazil, Qatar and Saudi Arabia, though points momentum has never lasted long this season.

The Yas Marina circuit is a location where both drivers have won in the past, with Hamilton having won numerous times at the track, and Verstappen being the most recent winner. The layout has been altered for 2021 to encourage more overtaking.

Looking away from the feature act of this race weekend, the constructor’s battle between Mercedes and Red Bull seems to be all but decided, with Mercedes holding a 28-point advantage. With Hamilton and Verstappen cancelling each other out on points, Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas have been involved in a lower profile battle than their teammates, but one full of surprises just the same.

This will also be the last time we see certain drivers in F1, or the last time we see them with their current teams. Perhaps the biggest departure is Kimi Räikkönen, who will retire from driving after Abu Dhabi. Kimi’s teammate, Antonio Giovinazzi, will also vacate his F1 seat after this season and will race in Formula E next year instead. One of the Alfa Romeo team seats will be filled by Bottas, who will finish this year third in the driver’s standings. His current seat at Mercedes will be filled by George Russell.

This looks to be an exciting finish to a season filled with drama and shocking moments. Let’s hope that we see the best from each of the championship contenders this weekend.

No Formula 1 fan should recognize Verstappen as the 2021 champion, otherwise he defends a sport where the rules are variable and in this case, it is no longer a sport but a reality TV show
Nice opinion. Now allow me to discard it by reporting and blocking.

Mercedes can still appeal but all they're getting is financial compensation and possibility the firing of Masi.
And I think you may need to grow up a little. It’s all our own opinions, you seem To be the one unable to recognise another opinion.

Seems pretty hypocritical to only criticise pro-Verstappen posters for this yet not follow your own advice yourself. Blocking the other guy is me being mature instead of dragging out an internet fight for longer than it has to go.

But yes I agree this discussion needs to end, great how much passion formula one can muste at times.Roll on 2022

On the subject of Michael Masi, I think it is quite unfortunate the way he is being treated. During Charlie Whiting's reign, I don't remember Team Principals screaming at him through microphones during races.

I believe there was an understanding that Charlie was a legend of the sport and you don't bully one of the sports' Elder Statesman.

Then, enters Michael Masi, the new guy. I find that both Wolff and Horner are treating him with disrespect and are constantly trying to influence him by shouting at him during the races. It is just boorish behaviour.

IMHO, letting Hamilton and Verstappen duke it out on the last lap of the race was the right decision.

Yes please, just let it go, it's over, you lot are starting to sound like Toto, a sore loser if i ever saw one. Hamilton and his entourage were gracious in defeat, please follow his example.
It is not over. It is the start of a long legal battle to regain the integrity of this sport.

Hamilton is the 2021 champion in the purest application of the rules and the purest application of the rules is what we all want
Good god man, get a grip.

Sorry I was not going to message again, but this is a ridiculous comment,as I have stated in quite a few messages today these are our own opinions,we agree or disagree but who are you to post such a message.,totally ludicrous and brings nothing to this discussion. This is a discussion forum after all,he has not sworn or been offen just stating his points which quite a few of us agree with some.Be respectful .

Some of that is on Michael Masi though. He needs to push back on the team principals and take charge. In the audio that I've heard on the public feeds, he comes off as too soft to me.

I do think the "It's called motor racing" comment to Toto was a great response and he needs to do more of that to the teams.

What did your comment bring to this discussion? How is yours any less ridiculous? Someone is going off with dozens of comments telling other F1 fans who they should recognize and I call him out. That's unacceptable to you. But you have no problem calling out other people's comments?

The irony here is next level.

I am actually loving the passion we all have for F1,just saying for you to just tell him to get a grip, when he is stating his opinion does not sit right,I am not here to argue with you or anyone else, and I will comment on what post I would like too,it’s all opinions,we will never all agree on everything but hey ho.

There will be no legal battle, Mercedes are smarter than Toto, and they will force him to drop any intentions of an appeal, mark my words, this matter is over.
No problem. Let Mercedes go and the 2022 team will be Ineos - Aramco but I'm sure Wolff won't let his driver be abused in this way

And for you to tell me that I shouldn't comment on his post when I was just giving my opinion??? That's fine?

We both agree that you can comment on whatever posts you would like. It seems the disagreement is that you don't think others should have that right; which comes of as incredibly hypocritical (in my opinion).

Well, F1 has ceased to be a sport for decades now. It´s a business and its managers do what they do to please the stockholders and to keep people in front of the TV screens, which pleases the stockholders a lot. 1990 Suzuka, 1994 Adelaide were just two of the many nails in the coffin.
