RT Oulton Park - Early 1960s skin

RT Oulton Park - Early 1960s skin 2.0

If you use Microsoft Defender (Windows' default antivirus), add an exclusion for 7z file extensions while you download and install this, then put it back the way it was. Defender truly has jumped the shark.

The download now installs a separate track layout, which is used to activate the skin changes handled by CSP. No hand-edits required to the original ext_config.ini file, and the whole thing is now capable of being drag-and-drop installed via Content Manager.

To run this skin:
  • Install everything from the download
  • Enable the 'Early 1960s extension" track layout
  • Enable the "Early 1960s" skin
  • Optionally, enable the "Early 1960s Line Paint" to keep the track limits visible.

The track layout It is identical to the originally track's 1954-72 international no-chicane; it just enables the CSP changes needed by the skin, plus some load-in pictures. I've baked a reminder about enabling the skin in the track layout preview image; if that bothers you, there is an alternative/plain preview.png file without the reminder in the ui\skinned-60s\ directory you can use to replace it.

Other changes from version 1 to 2:
  • Reduced the number of possible aircraft to 2 hot air balloons and a blimp, reskinned
  • Improvements to night lighting / emissives. No more mysterious bright patches where the portable lights used to be, grandstands are under-lit, some sponsorship now illuminated etc
  • Revised the wood texture on the "armco", apex markers and grandstands
  • Fixed some z-fighting between Dunlop/BP signage on grandstands
  • Period paint on the spectator parked cars (they're still modern cars, so please squint and imagine Land Rovers and Morris Minors), dialled back the Pirelli festival on shipping containers etc
  • Orange fence / wall boards replaced with chevrons or plain plastic
  • Colours on some tents
  • Repainted marshal posts (sadly the catch fences can't be removed without breaking other things, oh how I tried) and the building at the pit exit
  • Removed security cameras and their support poles, some remnants of electronic flags etc
Please let me know if I missed anything.
  • Various bug fixes: reverse side textures, floating artifacts, little alpha channel horrors etc
  • Texture revisions to some of the signage+buildings
  • Converted the grandstands to timber
I also added a secondary skin that simply reinstates the default track limit paint lines I removed from the main skin. Based on photos and videos from back in the day, the lines were there some of the times, and in some of the places, so again, none of this is historical truth. Drive things however you prefer.

If you've already successfully installed a version of this skin before, it should be safe to drag and drop the download button onto Content Manager and just let it override; no further change was made to the track's main ext_config.ini file in this revision.

I don't intend to revisit this project unless particularly egregious bugs turn up. Enjoy!

  • Some additional texture edits to buildings, fences and other structures
  • Changes to most of the signage (big thanks to @Pasta2000 for ideas and edits too!)
  • GrassFX now has slightly more attitude than before
Thanks to all those who have said kind things and provided constructive suggestions - but most of all, thanks to Reboot Team for bringing such a great track to AC in the first place.
