Weird problem of removing files and CTD

hi,

So my problem is that this game started suddenly CTD when exiting to monitor in races,practises etc.
It helped when I removed my folders from my document/automobilista etc..profiles and so on. I even uninstalled game and installed it again. Now the same thing..even when me driving with stockcars it says on the lower left of my screen my name and WRONG CAR, wrong class..I don't know what is wrong..now it won't let me remove one folder, it is called FONTS...It didn't remove it even when I uninstalled it first time. Everytime I try to remove it, there is pop-up saying "can't remove while still in use by SYSTEM".
In folder there is 2 files called Titilliumweb-bold.ttf and TitilliumWeb-semibold.ttf...those are the ones I can't remove at all and I think it's causing those CTD's....This game did not CTD about a year ago at all..I don't know what's happened. I got those removed. Still CTD when exiting....frustrating as hell.

What I would do and maybe you did...uninstall the game thru steam, delete Automobilista folder from Documents, reboot the computer. Double check that everything is in fact deleted..then reinstall the game. edit: Are you using windows 10/11 ? Disable OneDrive if you are.

What an idiotic problem. Some genius has put a font file in one of your mods or something, and once Windows activates it, it becomes a protected file that cannot be deleted.

You can probably stop the Windows font cache service by running "service.msc." After stopping the service, hopefully, delete it and reboot.

Ok, I'm doing your recommendations. Deleted everything now, got that hideous font.file removed also. And yes I have that OneDrive and I don't understand it's meaning at all. I've disabled it before and now it's back again. All my files from my documents are now onedrive/..../.......man I'm angry of this. Should I backup somewhere my documents folder from OneDrive and disable it then? I can't understand why it's here again.
And yes I'm using windows 10...Did those things..no help..everything works fine until I try to "exit to monitor", then it's stuck couple of seconds and CTD .....weird weird. I'll try again.

I am no expert, but probably some windows update turned onedrive back on. I *THINK* if you run Automobilista as administrator it will not use the documents folder and it will store all your .plr files and stuff in the main Automobilista game folder instead of documents.

I'll try this and new install after deleting everything and rebooting. One thing is weird also..when I start the config program where you setup all graphics and resolutions etc. I set the frames to 144hz and resolution is my native 4K and so on..when I click "OK", the typical windows "error" sound peeps, that annoying sound when you try something impossible. But nothing shows..no error message anywhere, but even that program probably won't shut down normally..hah..what is wrong with this game now.

The first time you run the game after re-install (As Administrator) , you should get the Graphics Config screen where you set monitor resolution and all that stuff.

edit: Do you start the game from Steam, or a desktop shortcut? If you have a desktop shortcut..delete the old one if it is left over from before...have steam create a new one. Right click the new one and "Run as Administrator"

I'm starting it from steam usually, no shortcuts anywhere. But I really now need to uninstall everything..like is there traces in registry of this game? Because now I installed it again and there was that Font file again in a fresh install! And the .exes were already with administrator rights... hah! I uninstalled it from steam. Then deleted profiles..then I deleted the remaining folders from steam. There is nothing now left anywhere.

I'll do next as you said..It must be so that there is now files conflicting somewhere...new and old. No viruses luckily.

Very strange..I don't know enough about computers to answer questions about registry. Deleting all files from steam and from documents SHOULD be enough....Hopefully someone with more knowladge will chime in. I will look in my install for those font files, see if they are on my pc..

Yes, I can confirm that too and they can be removed, but not so easily. Now I'm back at trying make this work. Strange thing is, last week this did work quite well. Suddenly something happened. I installed by the way JSGME mod enabler to it then and it went bad after that. Well..let's start.
I'm installing this to a different drive now. Only base game, no enablers, no mods.
If today this isn't working, I'm going to forget this game.
Now it's installed...set monitor refresh to 144hz..started app..first config. I have windowed as it's recommended for nvidia users to have AA in game working. 4K resolution. Hit ok and the "error" sound was there again. Nothing shows what error it was...Getting angry already..Tried different refresh modes..same sound of error.
Now I noticed that the config screen loads/saves settings to that onedrive file I have disabled.....this is nightmare. I disabled it before. How can that installation go to onedrive, when it's disabled.

I am sorry it is not working for you. When I can get to my PC I will go over the files again to see if anything catches my eye. I also use JSGME and everything has been working fine. I only have a couple of car mods, and I am pretty sure those font files are supposed to be there with the vanilla game..I don't think any of my car mods installed those fonts. As far as the onedrive thing, when I first started using windows 10 I deleted onedrive off my system. Removed it.

Hey, I got it working now somehow..Things I've done, done CMD command lines for windows..no help!!
Did install and uninstall every kind of way. No help! Reverted to older Beta version, that helped little. But still CTD occurred frequently. Brother came to help and he saw from the trace.txt file that it is something with my wheel. I disconnected them, shifters etc. Then it started working. No crashing. Then I put only my wheel and pedals on. Worked. I deleted Nvidia profiles for this game. And also this game can't find any presets for Fanatec CSL PS4-edition. That was a thing I believe. Now I loaded Fanatec's CSWv2 preset and mapped to my liking.
It's working now, no CTD's at all and game version is the latest one..Now I'm going to add that JSGME mod enabler and see what happens.
