TVStyle CTD with Virtua_LM GTPC mod

Hi,

I have a weird issue with the TVStyle overlay and Virtua_LM GTPC mod. For some reason, I get a CTD when I try to load any track and any car from this mod with the TVStyle overlay. The track and car briefly loads and then rFactor crashes after about 3 seconds. I checked the event viewer and the faulting file is the TVStyleV3.dll

However, I can load any other mod/car/track combination and rFactor works perfectly with the TVStyle overlay.

Has anyone run into an issue like this before? Does anyone have any idea about why TVStyle and Virtua_LM GTPC are not compatible? Or how I could make them compatible?

Ive had similar issues that were DX related. Check the rfactor cfg again.

Is the rFactor cfg different for mods installed to the same root folder?

I can't figure out why TVStyle crashes for GTPC and not any other mod.

For some odd reason the cfg can change in rfactor and GTR2; when I have something suddenly CTD, especially when it was working fine previously, that's the first thing I check.

Have you checked the trace file?

A dll induced crash is usually an interaction with windows, especially with non-MS dlls. Older games, such as rfactor, should never be installed to any "Program Files" folders; make sure your account has full access to the install folder; run all exe as admin. Depending on what that dll does, DEP could be killing it; temporarily disable DEP (how varies with windows version) and see if it makes a difference.

And it could be a vid driver issue; if that dll is switching resolutions, creating overlays, etc., it could be doing something your vid drivers, or their settings, don't like. This can be difficult to troubleshoot; putting all driver settings back to default is the first step. (I changed some settings that made FlightSim much better, days later several arcade games loaded to a black screen with background music. I cursed for days trying to fix that.)

The game is installed outside of the Program Files folder and I always run rFactor as administrator. The TVStyle overlay works with other mods from the same root folder so DEP and graphics drivers are unlikely to be the issue. If DEP/UAC and/or graphics drivers were the issue, I would expect to experience a CTD with all mods from that root folder.

In my mind, it must be something specific to the Virtua_LM GTPC mod that makes it CTD when using the TVStyle overlay, but I have no idea what that could be at the moment...

Ah sorry. I forgot to add that. What is the trace file? I've not heard of that. Is it something I can pull from Event Viewer? Or do I need to do something else?
