Transfăgărăşan - The best route in the world?

In july I will make a trip to Transfăgărăşan route, which is very close to Bucharest where I live, about 3 hours away.

I will leave with my Citroen C4 valvetronic and a friend with VW Jetta Tdi. We will camp overnight at Balea Lac, and next day, hopefully, we'll be back in the capital of Romania, Bucharest.

Transfagarasan or "Transfăgărăşan" in romanian language was called the best route in the world by Top Gear TV Show.


If you're going to Black Sea, here in Romania or Bulgaria or you're in the country I will be more than pleased if you will join our little group.

Thomas, this thread is more about an invitation than about the road itself .


There is a road in Romania that many people say is more beautiful than Transfăgărășan.
It was rebuild in War World II by germans. Story tells Ceaușescu built Transfăgărășan just to surpass this road.


It's name is Transalpina and it was in a terrible state, dirt, rocks, craters all over.
You could only take your atv, bike, old Range Rover, pure suicide with you daily drive.

The waiting is over. They've rebuild it in tarmac, at least some sectors of the road. If Top gear returns we will have a new king.

Cool roads! Only seen similar in south France, but that was a "light" version of these!

I know, but it's still quite far from here, Transalpina is 741km, Transfagarasan is 862km. Maybe someday
