Unknown assailants opened fire on the Togo national team bus ahead of the African Cup of Nations in Angola, killing the driver and wounding four others.

"The Angolan driver was killed on the spot," said a Togolese sports ministry spokesman in Lome, adding that the attack took place in the restive Angolan region of Cabinda.

He said the wounded included two squad members and two medics.
The squad includes Manchester City Striker Emmanuel Adebayor, who the club confirmed was unharmed.
Aston Villa's Mustafa Salifou was also uninjured.
It was confirmed the attack was an act of terrorism which was being investigated by authorities.

"We are still at hospital. We were machine-gunned like dogs and had to hide for 20 minutes under the seats to avoid the bullets."
Dossevi added that the team no longer wanted to play at the cup.
Togo were due to get their Cup of Nations campaign underway against Ghana on January 11.
Organising committe member Virgilio Santos had earlier reassured competing teams about organisation and safety in Angola after some expressed concerns about the country's ability to host a major tournament.
After gaining independence in 1975, Angola was ravaged by civil war until a ceasefire in 2002.
However, the northern province of Cabinda - which borders with Republic of Congo - is still heavily disputed and up to a third of its population live as refugees in nearby DR Congo.
