Thinking about buying this:

Hey, some of you may have seen my last thread about advice on buying a desktop. Well I've found one with your help but i'd like some reassurance. (I feel this was worthy of a new thread as my last one has kind of gone dead, if you want to merge it with my other thread feel free).

This is what I have found: http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/pavilion-elite-hpe-470uk-refurbished-desktop-08623360-pdt.html

Will i be able to play games such as rFactor and iRacing sufficiently on that PC without having problems? Bare in mind i won't be playing other games such as Dirt 3 and F1 2010 as i have a ps3. So it wont need to be very "high tech"

It is a refurbished model but I can't really see any downsides to it, it seems like a real bargain!

Its got a higher spec than mine(apart from gtx 460 graphics card, but it came with a 260) cost 2x that 1 1/2 years ago, and then i spent the same again on wheels and stands. I bet you couldnt buy all the parts for that price from a online shop and then there deleivery ( refurbished, at least you know it works), i made a habit of buying shop soiled only once was i let down....

I am not a expert but a total nood when it get techy.... i cant see me going back to a xbox for a while.....

Sounds good lol, but is it good enough? that's the question haha

I very happy with mine it plays all the race games, even with the gtx 260 i got 30 to 60 fps in dirt 2 .. hense... I cant see me going to a xbox for a while ..
dirt 2 can run dirX11 on pc
Rfactor dirX9(i dont play it so i cant be 100% sure) think it should bo ok
At the end of the day are you going to be happy with it...

If you upgrade you need a GPU and PSU.

The GT 320 is a rebranded gt 220 and you wil need a GT 250/450/550 or higher to let the games run good.

Maybe it runs, maybe not. Maybe it runs at low settings...maybe.

Hi Aidan for the driving games the pc you are looking to get is more than adequate for your needs. Also RFactor,Race,GTR Evo,GTL, GTR2 Does not require alot of demand from the system requirements so you will be fine. I just started playing around with Flight Simulators with my laptop to see if my laptop can pull it off and it does(HP G60 634A).Some of the newer driving games out there require more out of you system but still will handle it. I'm quite dissappointed that I couldn't find a refurb such as you did. I would of like to save some $$$$$$ but oh well. My HPE 510F's graphics card is a AMD Radeon HD 6570, not high end but more than does the job. Just found out whats in my laptop. Intel HD Mobile 4500m,which is garbage, but I can still run RFactor and Simbin games with graphics settings on high.

Thanks, I'm thinking of going the custom route. I think i can get a lot more for my money that way and I'll be able to upgrade in the future. Now just have to learn what i need to learn so i can get an awesome PC built for me :)

I built my own last year and as long as you do your research to make sure all you components will work together you shouldn't have too many problems. I bought most of my components from Overclockers.co.uk plus a couple of items from Novatech.

Here's an old thread with some details and pictures on the DVA Squad website -

Note - some of the components are no longer stocked and/or have been superceded by newer/faster items. PC development never stands still!

Good Luck.
