Stefano on ACC modability

RMR1

@Simberia
Kunos at last commented on ACC modability, in short terms: No official mod support this time around.

We are totally aware of the importance of modding and its contribution to the success of Assetto Corsa.
It's a great way for new talents to emerge, for the community to "suggest" new directions and/or simply to make a product richer. It is not a coincidence that some of the best guys in this community are now contributing with us to the evolution of the software.

However, for ACC this element will have to be put in stand-by mode for a series of reasons. The most important one is that we have given ourselves an enormous task of rebuilding, once again our software from (almost) scratch. In a world where pretty much every product you see on the market in simracing is an evolution of games that have been on the market 10-15 years ago, our approach is to get a big axe and reset things to (almost) zero before starting with a new project, ACC is no exception.

In this case the task is rendered more complex by the fact that we are using, for the first time a third party engine that we did not design ourselves and the truth is, given the amount of time we have available to deliver ACC to the public, we have more than enough on our hands trying to figure out how to use the engine effectively to also think about how to make the platform moddable.

As you can imagine, this has been source of endless discussions in the last year and half as every decision comes with pros and cons, there is going to be pain no matter what your final call will be. It goes without saying that we believe we made the right call even if that means loosing the huge benefits of a moddable platform.

So to recap, there will be no action from our side regarding modding, both in the direction of promoting nor offering any kind of forum support for it as in the opposite direction, we have no intent to stop it from happening if some smart guy figure out how to do it.

Strange debate. Wait that ACC comes out in the 1st place. Why all these guessing? Not necessary... at all.
I am 100% sure Kunos will give us even better game that was/is AC. Be sure you too.
Personally I would close down all these guessing threads.

But not when it comes to sacred cows. One must NEVER EVER go cross the grain when it comes to the Sacred Cows.

You could make the same argument about any sim on the market, it would still be quite a bit on the bonkers side to put it lightly. People disagreeing with you aren't necessarily doing it for the sake of ACC but your ludicrous definition of arcade games.

The sole purpose of arcade games is to be fun, regardless of how they achieve it, we are still pouring countless man hours into making ACC a realistic simulator that happens to be based on a single racing series. If anything, this allows us to be more focused than a game that just kind of hangs in the air with a bunch of mixed content. Beyond that, this time around we chose a third-party engine, which allows us to do many things we weren't able to do with our proprietary engine but we also sacrifice explicit mod-support, because we are also "users" here. These are not excuses, these are the plain facts.

If you don't like the content, fine, if you like to support mods and modders, hooray, if you think not having mod-support for a sim is a con, fair enough, but labelling and discarding it and expecting a smiley face as a reaction is a tad ambitious.

Maybe time to draw this discussion to a close.
Why? ACC and modding is a topic that hasn't been examined in depth before. I read the interview and stated my opinion, they (ALL of them) did as well.

Unfortunately, I used some terms incorrectly and maybe got a little snarky and got some folks uptight, but not on purpose. I apologize to all for the snarky, but I do have a right to speak my opinion.

No problems by me ... the main idea got out there ... and it wasn't very popular. Not every opinion is.

I'm a big boy ... I took my lumps.

People saying its not moddable,
I will be the 1st person to modify it no doubts, I will open the 1st .png file or .JSON file I see add a "1" or some paint and save it again, so who keeps saying we cant mod ACC is crazy :p
