As always with these articles, we at RaceDepartment in no way endorse the highlighted mods or take any responsibility for any issues caused to your gaming machine by downloading the files. This article is not intended to act as a recommendation, it is purely an opportunity to highlight some of the great community produced content available currently for a selection of PC racing games. I'll try my best to pick the best and give a thorough roundup of what's out and about but please do feel free to leave a message in the comments if you see anything you think should be included in the next round up...

Content released by the United Racing Design team are pretty much always right on the mark, and this one is no exception. Usually URD mods attract a cost, however the C7.R Corvette has been released as a free item for Automobilista (the team's first AMS content) and it is right up there with some of the best cars in the simulation. Created with a different physics set from it's rFactor 2 cousin, this version of the C7.R is a perfect addition to the simulation and fits right in with much of the default content in game. Benefitting from physics support by Renato Simioni of Reiza, the car looks beautiful and feels beautiful on track. A must have.

Patrick Giranthon originally updated and brought the legendary rF1 CART mod to Automobiista with much fanfare from gamers, and now Dann Murillo and Co have modified the content further in order to bring a league edition of the mod to AMS. In order to create a true LE version of CART Extreme, the mod team have applied the same physics set across all cars with the removal of random engine breakdowns. The team have confirmed this league edition update will work harmoniously with the CART Extreme download, and features all 36 cars included in the original mod.

Remember when Formula One cars used to look nice? Well this isn't one of them! The paint scheme is pretty cool however... This 2002 specification Arrows Cosworth A23 is a very impressive piece of content produced for Automobilista and features a very attractively put together 3d model. Physics and sounds have been borrowed from Reiza, and the car comes together well on track for an entertaining experience and taste of early 2000's Formula One machinery. Benefitting from a high resolution model, skins and helmets, the car also includes optimised LODs and dynamic tyres.
A very nice looking and feeling mod indeed.

Something of a rarity in Automobilista comes a road going Ferrari FXX K brought to the sim by marcogts with permissions from original author Rasta Drifter. The Ferrari is a very entertaining drive and does a good job of adding something a little bit different to the usual racing cars found in AMS. As one would expect with a Ferrari, the sounds in this mod are stunning, as is the handling characteristics of a car than is both lively to control while at the same time providing a challenging driving experience when pushing to the very edge of laptime. Looking the part thanks to a detailed 3d model and Reiza shaders, the FXX K is a nice piece of content for anyone who likes to drive performance road cars in their sim racing games.

I simply have no idea what to say about this mod. Literally lost for words. It's weird, it's quirky, it's funny and it's fun. So yeah, that will have to do I suppose! Well done to Reb.Ellion for converting and updating the original rFactor 1 mod and even going so far as to add mirrors and lights to the original rF1 release. Pitched as perfect for the little ones to try, it also hold it's own after beers with mates just as well. An interesting and colourful bit of content.

Snetterton (2 layouts, 2 seasons) 1.0

Latest Release: 22/10/2016

Snetterton is a popular racetrack in Norfolk, UK, that hosts several national championship events such as the British Touring Car Championship and British GT. Having recently undergone a major rebuilding under the leadership of former Grand Prix driver Johnathon Palmer, the track has now been updated from the original Factor 1 modification and brought to Automobilista by third party track kind Patrick Giranthon. As is the usual for a Giranthon track, Snetterton has been brought in to line with the standard Reiza quality and includes all the usual goodies such as dynamic track, enhanced polys, Reiza shaders etc. Additional to the original Lasercutter track, Giranthon has also included the Snetterton 200 shorter layout. A perfect release to sit alongside the new Brit Pack DLC.

Scene of the title deciding European Grand Prix in 1997 (you know, the one where Michael Schumacher "forgot" Jacques Villeneuve was alongside him...), Patrick Giranthon has once again been working his track converting magic on a former GSCE mod and bringing it to Automobilista with the usual flare produced by Giranthon and his team. With two seasons and two layouts included in the download of one of the most underrated tracks used in Formula One during the last 20 years, this is yet another must have download for AMS.

What? Patrick Giranthon does tracks for AMS? Who would have guessed? Well news flash, he does... and he does them very b***dy well indeed. Autopolis has received a considerable makeover from its original form in order to bring it up to the quality expected of first party Reiza content. With new dynamic track, 3D crowds, masses of new textures and pitboxes, trees and pitlane exit, this is a considerable overall that does wonders to bring the track up to a standard comparable to Reiza. Autopolis is a little known location to most Europeans and makes a nice addition to the simulation.

Automobilista Fontana.jpg

Fontana Speedway 1.01

Category: Tracks / Oval

Latest Release: 22/07/2016

Another Patrick Giranthon release designed no doubt with the CART Extreme mod in mind comes the Fontana Speedway release. A super fast oval based in America, the Fontana mod for Automobilista is of a very high quality. Sadly due to the difficulties experienced with oval content creation in AMS, this release doesn't quite meet the same standards as some of Patrick's usual tracks. This takes nothing away from the quality of this release, as Giranthon and Co. have put considerable effort into reworking the original GSCE version, with new road, wall, grass and crowd textures amongst many other new features.

Funny you say that, did anyone notice that something's wrong with elevations on this track, that exact spot (Dry sack curve) isn't as it supposed to be ? Aporoaching that curve you must be going downhill and in this version is quite the opposite.
Not that I think Patrick is the one to blame, he doesn't edit track elevations, I believe.

From Sito Pons to Dry Sack track obviously going downhill.

Great write up @Paul Jeffrey thanks again

I saw on URD's Facebook page that they were working on bringing the T5's to AMS so looking forward to that as well but that Corvette looks pretty nice

I would imagine the CART league conversion opens the way for the league on here which is an interesting development ;)

Of course a big mention to Patrick for his work on the tracks for this sim, incredible detail and a lot of time and effort goes into making these masterpieces :)

Good write-up Paul as usual.

The 2012/3 T5 mod has been out for a while and has recently been updated to fix some problems with the FFB. There are also 2016 skins available here for it. If you like DTM it is worth getting. Hopefully URD will bring their other mods to AMS as well.

Patrick and Co. also did some work on the various versions of Imola so they are even more productive.

Thanks for that, I looked at the online shop a month or so ago, must have only just missed it!

Download certainly planned for tonight

Hopefully, Patrick will convert his 911 RSR, F430 GTC and 997 GT3 RSR car mods to AMS as well ( please Patrick ;) ). What he, and Team, do it's top-notch!!

Thanks for the heads up, Paul :)
