Studio 397 have revealed the first proper preview image of the upcoming Gen2 Formula E car for rFactor 2, and it sure does look pretty...

Formula E has undergone something of a change and progression for this year, releasing a faster, more durable and infinitely more visually striking car for the new season, and that car could well be part of your virtual garage in rFactor 2 very soon - as Studio 397 look to continue their partnership with the ABB Formula E championship to bring out the latest all electric single seat racing car, expected to become available for the simulation in the very near future.

We've already seen a couple of sneaky peak pictures of the car inserted into various blog posting and social media messages, however today is the very first time we've seen the Formula E car up close in rFactor 2, and judging by the picture at the top of this article, it might not be too far away from a release ready state.

At present we don't know if the car will come alongside a new track or two, as did the original Formula E Energize DLC did back in 2017, but with the category having undertaken a significant change for this season, with or without track this will certainly be a very interesting new piece of officially licenced content for the simulation.

Stay tuned for more information as and when it becomes available...

rFactor 2 is available exclusively to PC via the Steam network.

Should be fun. 2018 car was plain fun to race. One thing bothers me tho, if they have partnership with Formula e why is there only one official race track, why not release all official tracks so we can race offline season. Nothing vs user made tracks but the can never get ai to be as good as it can be,

Honest question, not trying to bash, I like rFactor2, but these Formula-E cars...are they taking off with anybody?

I haven't purchased the DLC yet so haven't tried it. Maybe it's fun? I'm just not into the real-life FE at all...no soul in those cars.

I'm kind of confused about the effort and push going into these cars.

No soul? More like "no nostalgia". (What about horse & buggy???) Similarly to vinyl records, internal combustion engines are a pain in the a-- to actually work with on a daily basis. Of course, unless that's your thing - tinkering with them. I get it.

Fun fact: electric cars are faster (maybe TOO fast). In the end, speed wins. I get a good chuckle inside watching Teslas blow away all these souped up v8 monstrosities.

Also: Great work on the car model, rf2 team!

As someone who has a hearing issue, i mostly have my game sounds at 1% just so i can hear ts or my spotter so engine sounds have never bothered me which is why i enjoy this pack so much more than most racing enthusiasts. Once you get used to it (or play a michael schumacher hotlap video in the background) im sure you would enjoy the pack too.
Unbelievable that you even think that is reasonable. Get used to it? Are you kidding me? My hearing is at 100% and I want to enjoy it as such.

Then dont drive them. rFactor 2 has a large range of cars. If you dont want formula e dont buy it. Just because you dont like it doesnt mean that others dont. If the last pack didnt do too well, they wouldnt be releasing a new car. Its obviously done well. :)

I like the physics of the first FE-car and will buy the new one as well. But there is a problem with the sound and it's not the car, even it makes it obvious: There is a lack of ambient-sounds from the tyres and chassis.

It's kind of hard to explain and maybe age has something to do with it but I'm getting to where I don't like loud shouty things anymore.
I ride a BMW K1200rs it's smooth, quiet and quick.
I tried a friends Harley the damn thing vibrating, spitting and shaking making so much noise it was annoying. It was fun going through the gears a few times but I couldn't live with it everyday.
I think this is why I like FE and the technology so much, they're quiet and have massive amounts of instant torque.
I do love an open header racecar passing me in the stands but probably could not drive one for 6 hours, even with ear plugs.
Oh well.

There is very little activity with these cars online. The series is trash tho so I didn't buy this DLC either. Would be better to see the investment on this used for something else like an IMSA series
Well at least this gave them a reason to bring electric engines and regen to the game. All they need now is to put this + an ICE and we have hybrids.

We dont need more gt cars. There are already three different packs with them, so no. we dont need IMSA. Its nice having these different style cars that we dont have in every single sim.

I honestly have thought a millions possibilites why a sim-racer would hate racing a formula-e race and I can't imagine a reason. I just cant.

  • Stupid fast acceleration
  • Top speed into the 280kph
  • Limited grip
  • Ground effect
  • While providing the same close racing as MX-5s @ brands hatch.

I believe most of the less enthusiastic fans around here are likely just 1 online race away with this car to start respecting the series and proactively searching servers to race with it.

This "it isn't on major sims" only work for mainstream cars. FE is not mainstream despite what they try to sell.
If "it isn't on major sims" alone would sell AMS would be the most played sim ever.
To each his own tho, if you wanna keep on with that excuse you are free to do so. I strongly disagree with that.
Also no sim have the complete IMSA cars and tracks either.
