Ressurecting the GTr 2 pit crew in AMS

How is it that GTR 2 has pit crew animations and some G motor 2 titles dont? surely it should not be to hard to renable these things since they share the same game engine

i'd love to do some research on this subject.

Could anyone tell me how to edit the pits.mas file? this file appears to be absolutely essential on how pitstops work in game when i open it up with note pad it's just a bunch of garbled text i am new to the G motor 2 engine lol used to tinker with the total war series a while back.

Reiza files are encrypted. I think you'd have to create a completely new pits mas file from a GTR2 pits related mas file and then compare with the Reiza one. However, like I said, Reiza have encrypted their files so it might make it quite hard to achieve.

Yep, impossible to implement animations without the source code to trigger them, surely?
I wonder if it would be worth a shot to create an entirely new pits.mas whilst importing GTR2's animations and script files into the game/putting them into that new mas file could someone PM me a copy of the mas2 tool i'd love to experiment but i dont own rfactor or rfactor 2

it's always good try every single possibility such is the power of science...erm modding even if it turns out to be incredibly basic still better than nothing i could try emailing Studio 397/reiza about this since they have access to the game engine scripts maybe they could give me some pointers.

Update: i just emailed them both this could get interesting

Update 2:I just tried editing the mas file with a hex editor but damn AMS is like the great wall of china when it comes to hardcodes i am amazed people were even able to mod this game at all.... i will wait for the official response from reiza and studio 397/isi

I may have to end up buying rfactor 2 and trying it on a more open ended engine :S this really bums me out thank you for your patience folks.

Thanks for trying, believe me I would love to see working pitcrews! But if you get a helpful reply I'll go out, buy myself a hat, and eat it. Of the few messages that get replied to, ones about modding probably have the lowest success rate. Even sometimes directly addressing a dev, sending a very polite message etc, sees your question ignored. Good luck! :)

I've only ever had joy with Renato. But I don't think this would really be his remit. He's the physics guy mainly, obviously I know he runs Reiza as well! In regards to you saying about others modding for AMS, is mainly stuff that's ported from RF then updated to add flat spots (which is done via a few lines of text in the tbc file) and shaders. Other than that it's basically RF content. I don't think anyone has had much joy cracking Reiza files - although the cracked physics files were floating around a while back which I had a look at. So maybe some kinda hacker dude might be able to work his magic?! But now we're entering the realm of this discussion being moderated!

@Tomprince
you need the Mas file editor to open them, once you open it with the proper tool, you will have a view of all the files inside, mostly DDS and GMT, you can then extract files and edit, bare in mind some DDS are scripted, the GMT can be edited with 3dsimed.

Hope you do find a way.

I am going to try it on rfactor 2 first since those files are less encrypted then move on from there plus a bonus with rfactor 2 is that you also get direct access to the G motor 2 source code via dev mode i dont think that's possible with AMS

it will be exciting that's for sure i am still new to the G motor 2 engine so i'll need to look into some tutorials as well before this i used to tinker with the total war games but it's getting harder and harder to mod those (like they dont even have a proper mass system now so troops dont even hold their formations correctly lmao and also it's fanbase can be quite toxic) so i ended up moving on.

While I have newer look into it I would assume that might no be an options as AMS and RF1 do not have animation and the Simbin animation encryption has not been cracked.

A real shame AMS didn't get animation, weather and VR like we all imaged back in the Crowdfunding days
