RDRC S9 Round 6 - Rally New Zealand (12th April - 18th April 2021)

Alright first day done. I don't know if my time for SS3 is registered in the system or not because I had a connection error at the end of the stage so @Ole Marius Myrvold can you help me check? Thank you in advance

As I mentioned a few days ago, my team had acquired a few sponsors for the rest of this season. The first one is Indofood, with the logo of their world-famous product Indomie adorning the rear panels of my car (it surprisingly works well with the RDRC banner color, too, who'd have thought). The second one is Pertamina, and if you know your GT3 cars and competitions then you're probably already aware of who they are. I also got a few stickers from my parts suppliers that my team forgot to put on the car in previous rallies but it's on there now, and will be there until the season ends.

Two big names, and one small-time music producer by the name of PRSTYG also decided to become a sponsor. Don't know where or how he found my PR team but welcome to the team nonetheless. Dude's got a cool logo, though. And his music's really good, too, go look him up on Spotify/Youtube. Too bad his logo's probably gonna get covered in various substances for most rallies :roflmao:

Anyway, on to the actual rally update.

First stage was less than ideal, banged the rear wheels against the wall a few times so wheel geometry is certainly damaged by the end of the stage. Managed to drag the car through SS2 with minor cosmetic damage and a slight radiator damage, so it took most of the repair time along with the geometry.

SS3 went alright, but the Racenet issues that I had might actually prevent my time from being posted. Regardless, I kept driving as smooth as I can all the way to the end of SS5. Really hoping that my run counts here.

All of the sponsors in one photo

A challenging rally, and still in the top 15 for now so I'll see if I can keep my position until the end of day 2. The sponsors were expecting a top 25 finish so I might need to push a bit harder throughout the event.

Good luck everyone!

I feel sorry for you here. It looks like the majority of the spectators are more interested in keeping their place in the queue for the toilets than watching you drive
but that's definitely better than the one chap who stands in front of the fence on the outside of one of the turns here in NZ, just exactly where you slowly slide out to if you went into the turn a little fast. If I ever find out who at Codemasters was reponsible for putting him there ... Hit the poor chap twice in recce.

Oh, that's probably just @Jack Hintz :roflmao:

Better late than never, but the team has finally arrived in NZ! :)

After having some trouble getting the cars trough some small channel near Egypt we finally found the correct path to follow to get in the right direction!
So after hiring a new trip advisor and also purchasing a GPS we arrived safely today :)

The drivers could not wait to test the local roads and we can report that Pirelli Tires NZ are completely sold out of 185/70R15 Pirelli K8 tires after some test stages! :p

This time i will not run the entire rally in one sitting since i am overloaded with work these days..
Starting tonight with a few stages and time will tell how many i will manage.

my first DNF, spun out on stage three in one of the fast passages, picked up a record three punctures in one go, having only one spare I tried to limp on, but was DQed shortly after for going too far off into the wild beyond. Ah well, not my night I'd say. Bring on Scotland.
Is there a mode "walking and taking in scenery"? I'd love to do that - if possible - next time round.

Dnf for me on end of 3rd stage with a screwed engine again, 1st stage was ok, flowing well but still miles down on time, knowing i'am getting full throttle but every other car apart from the 60's classics feel faster than the Escort RS Cossie, yet other's are flying along, must be me surely, only was clattering along the fences now and again lol, so disappointed my engine can't last. Well see ya's next round.

I guess these images speak for themselves?

God only knows why, but again, the game refuse to agree that i brought two spare tires on the opening day.. after a double puncture on stage 2 (which btw i dont agree was hard enough to even loose air from the tires) i was only allowed to change one wheel..
unfortunatly i pressed the wrong button and changed the rear wheel instead of the front... yay! :p

Lost about 3 minutes on that stage alone..

On stage 10 i clipped a fence and damaged the radiator for the second time this rally, this resulted in engine damage in the end of stage 11 and not enough servicetime in the last service to fully repair the car before powerstage.
So i went into the powerstage with "quickfix" on the engine and no repair on radiator..
5 minutes into the stage the engine started fading again..
I was sure i was about to DNF but somehow i actually made it to the end..

if i end up in points this time, i feel sorry for the other drivers :p

Don't think there's much help from there either ;)
It almost sounds like Phil only bothered getting out of the car once during the stage. The man is getting old you know!

I always soft lock it to what is supposed to be realistic for the car. The animation doesn't match in some cars because of this which can be confusing, but if you test it in DirtFish you should feel it hit the stops in different places for different cars. It just feels too game-y to me to see people driving Group B cars like they were go-karts. You might as well use a controller, which I know some people do and are much faster than me, but that's not why I'm here.

I also think using the correct rotation (and H-shifter) makes you drive the car more naturally and like it is supposed to be driven, so you crash less. I see people on streams late braking and paddle shifting down old rally cars and they make a lot more mistakes, whereas I need to brake earlier with my right foot, make sure I'm in the right gear and power on gently through the corner. Same with weight transfer, with low rotation you can just turn the car in, but with real rotation you need to learn to throw the car around and steer with your feet.
I would love to have an H pattern for my setup, but don't have the space, let alone a rig at this point, so I have to make due. However, the last couple of weeks that I've driven the H1-2-3 cars I've been experimenting with treating down shifts like in a manual, blip to rev match and adjust braking points a little earlier, and it's really helped. Still can't drive em well, but at least I'm not frustrated and fighting the car in every corner.
