We are looking to crown the 'RaceDepartment Community Favourite' racing game - get your votes in now for our next game on the list... DiRT 2.0!

Our dear RaceDepartment community. You folks are the most mighty fans of sim racing, often displaying an immense amount of understanding and depth of knowledge when it comes to our favourite hobby.

With sim racing and eSports in such a wonderful boom period of late. Gamers looking to have some fun with their virtual racing machines have never before had such a wide and robust variety of software to enjoy.

Now occasionally I've been in a position to rate new racing titles that have come my way, and almost every time I've received a wide variety of folks agreeing, or strongly disagreeing with my own opinions.

Opinions are great, but sometimes the opinion of one person, with their own likes and dislikes taken into account, can often give a bit of a skewed picture (intentional or not) to the greater cause in which said person is trying to explain.

As such, rather than doing one myself, and in the spirit of engaging some interesting community discussion, I thought it could be fun to let our own community rate each of the key sim racing / racing games available today.

As always with these things, please do try and respect each other and their opinions, and let's try to see if we can give a fun, but fair shake of the stick to each of the games included in this poll.

For transparency, I'm going to be featuring the following racing games over the next weeks:

I'm going to launch the article each Monday evening, and keep the poll running for a full week until the next new article is pushed live. So get your votes in quick!

Once I've completed the full list of games, I'll publish a final results feature, and we can award the winning developer the lofty title of 'RaceDepartment Community Favourite'!

Have fun, stay sensible and let the voting commence!

Did you guys see the release notes for Dirt Rally 2.0 October 30th, update ????

"Optimised overall SteamVR performance, to match that of Oculus SDK. "

Now I can't wait to try it out. I just finished downloading the 6.1Gb upgrade.

I would have rated 1.0 higher, but not much, everything is very average about this game, I end up not driving it. No really new content compare to 1.0 is a shame, I Hope this community is smart enough to not encourage what they did with 2.0, but I will probably be disappointed.

There is overlap but I wouldn't call it "no really new content", I highlighted the new one in bold.

Some of the cars are pretty bad like the Porsche 911 RGT tends to spin out on every Corner, it is quite Undriveable for me.. and talk about the Tarmac in 2.0 it's pretty bad..
You have to play with the differential settings, it really needs a lot of preload and some brake locking, you can get it quite docile (but not fast) if you want to.

Rated 4, and that's only because it drives well, the physics are good, and graphically it's outstanding.

Negatives are unfortunately overshadowing this title.

It's low on base content. Further paid DLC content is just regurgitated, albeit "remastered", from DR 1.0. Original season pass is apparently now just a "half" season pass, and to get the next lot of regurgitated content from DR 1.0 it would now make this title an approximately $150 game for me. Codemasters can shove that where the sun doesn't shine - especially now that WRC 8 is on the block.

While the core of the game is indeed fantastic, it's been completely ruined by Codemaster's money grabbing tactics and a very consumer hostile attitude.

Ok, I can't change my vote, but I'm upping this to an 8. The reason:

I'm currently migrating from a PS4 pro to a gaming rig, which means I'm re-buying a lot of titles, and additionally some that are PC only. Fortunately due to the age of a lot of the titles they are often heavily discounted, and DR 2.0 was on sale this weekend which means I managed to bag the super mega ultimate hyper deluxe version with all the seasons included for a shade under $60. At this price point it rates a 9.

However I felt I had to deduct a point due to Codemasters crappy DLC policy, so 8 it is.

Could not cast my vote, I'll give the game 9.
Physics are a step up from DR1, graphically have more detail but the fake baked hdr effect mess up some stages, specially at dusk.
For me VR is a must. Did not buy the game till VR was confirmed. After it came out I struggle to play it (rift using open vr in steam), was truly painful using a GTX1070... as painful as running Project cars 2 in my rig.
Any how I try to enjoy the experience... til magically arrive the October update, brings native Oculus support for the steam version and VR for my setup receive a boost, to the point that could push the quality settings in my game.
I'm a rally fan, not a RX fan... so I have bough all the rally stages that got release and dont even see the RX contend

I would give this no more than a 7, maybe less.

The DLC decisions leave it out, plus all you are paying for primarily id DR 1 content.

Thr game just feels like a giant patch of DR1, looks prettier but the game feels similar.

DR1 was a test release really, if this is the best they can do I would not buy a second game.
