R3E Pricing, discounts and tips

As I've noticed that some feel the pricing in R3E is a bit confusing, so I'm gonna try do my best to make it easier to understand here while also giving some tips on how to save a dollar or two in the process.

First off, you don't need to start the game to access the store, you can access the store and your account from here; http://game.raceroom.com

Hit the Store button at the top and then you can find the content just below under tha Cars, Tracks and Packs links.

I highly recommend to look at buying packs as these give you a big discount on the content compared to buying each car and track seperately! If you already own pieces of the content in a pack, you'll get further discount for what you own. Here's how you can tell;

  1. Hover your mouse over the huge yellow discount bubble.
  2. A popup tells you the total price, pack price, discount for owned content and all discount.
  3. Once you add content to the cart it will open on the right hand side, here you can see another type of discount you get, bulk discount, this discount increases in % the more you add (read on for a good tip on how to save money though!!).

So as you can see, just by hitting the store and adding something to the cart you can get a clear view of how much this content will set you back in cold hard cash!

But wait, theres more!
You can save more money by purchasing vRP vouchers from this store;
http://www.raceroomstore.com/shop_en/vrp

If we look at the price in the screenshot above, this will cost you 1698 vRP, which means €16,13 after bulk discount.
But you can buy a 2000vRP voucher from the above URL for €16,99, that way you'll have 302 vRP left over after buying the pack that you can use to buy another piece of content!
And the more you buy the cheaper it gets ofc. :)
After purchasing you'll get an email with a code that you can redeem in the store by clicking the vRP button next to your profile pic and choosing Redeem Code;

Lastly, that store is the official Raceroom store so it is fully legal and trustworthy.

So, in short, the TLDR version:
The WTCC packs are pretty good buys if you plan on joining our Club Racing as we will be doing lots of these.

Note that as of the time of writing this you can accidently pay too much if you for instance add both the WTCC 2013 pack and the European Track Pack to the store, you will not get discount for the tracks that both packs contain. For the time beeing you are better off just buying one pack, then add the next to the cart, once you own the tracks you should get credited with the discount.
If you have accidently bought this I urge you to contact Sector 3 over at their forums;

Tried many times gets to the end of the checkout says Visa card declined but card is good, so tried with PayPal an that just sends back to the checkout in a loop. Never had this before maybe could be a Visa issue with Black Friday overload.

My first purchase was via the game but when I tried to do another purchase like 20 minutes after it just didn´t get through. No messages or anything. After two attempts in the game I tried via the browser and that did the trick for me.

Had only the free content before but now I bought 9 cars and 10 tracks. Will give this game a try this weekend.

Was this really cheaper than buying tier 1 or 2 pack (Starter or Medium or how they call it) and a few more items?

If I would have bought the Starter pack I would have saved a few Euros but for me that was not an option as I wasn't interested inte the cars and tracks in that pack. Of the nine cars I bought only one was in the Starter pack and as for the tracks only two of the ten tracks I bought was in the Starter pack.

I should have searched for this thread before getting tangled up in confusing purchasing options for this game.

First temptation was to buy as DLC on Steam but that adds up to over £80 and it turns out it doesn't even get me all the content.

Then I spent ages trying to figure out VRPs in game, exchange rates and how discounts work if I buy packages that contain other content and what it's really going to cost me (impossible to calculate since they don't tell you how discounts work)

Then somehow I stumbled on the Raceroom website which seemed to have a whole different set of prices..... :O_o:

Gave up in the end and bought 10000 VRP from the website for about £50 and eventually was able to add credit in game after several failed cut and paste attempts, then selected the bundle that gives all currently released content for 9999 VRP and just got a lot of white screens in game. Eventually it worked and I have to say that £50 for all the content is a great deal so I'm very happy with the outcome, but not with the buying process :D

Sector3, please simplify things for noobs, it might be putting people off your otherwise great game ;)

It's easy once you know their system but I can see where the purchasing options can be confusing for those new to Sector3 and R3E. The biggest issue in my opinion is the disconnect between the Raceroom store and Steam. Example, Steam doesn't indicate ownership of DLC - it actually looks like Steam will let me purchase things that I already own. The money saving discounts are also hard to realize making for unhappy customers if they realize after their purchases.
Sector3 needs to fix, R3E in my opinion is the best "racing" sim when considering all features and content. Not saying the best in every area (I really like rF2 for it's strengths) but very polished in most area's. Many "potential" customers avoid R3E because of the purchasing idiosyncrasies. There are too many competitors for Sector 3 to ignore the complaints - lost sales because of purchasing methods, not because of an inferior product.
In the end I'm happy with the value of what I purchased but many won't give R3E a consideration for their sim racing money.

Yup, I completely agree. Might be simpler if they ditch Steam DLC completely and just unify the game and the website somehow.... if I'd have bought the DLC I'd be pretty annoyed right now. Plus it seems I can buy VRP using the Steam wallet, any more purchase methods I wasn't aware of? :D

Now I've got content I can see how the VRP system might work in the future allowing me to pick and choose new stuff when it becomes available, but why not just give prices in actual money? When I buy VRP on the website it must be doing some kind of currency conversion.

Anyway, as it's turned out I seem to have got an astonishing amount of tracks and cars for not very much money at all.... very impressive and a lot of fun so far (although I can't believe I have to manually switch between H shifter and paddles.... I have to fire up Assetto Corsa to find out what system each car uses :p:roflmao:).

Apart from that, it's a great game :thumbsup:

By now i own every track of R3E apart from 7, and around half of the cars, mostly (apart from some "experiences") with only one livery. I could now buy the complete game for a little over 40 bucks. I noticed that there are quite a few moduls out there (Formula 3, newest GT3 cars, Audi TT's, Indycar...), that get used regularly in club races i don't own yet. I definitely don't plan to miss out on the races i am able to attend only because i don't own the content, since R3E is definitely my favourite Sim when it comes to online racing..now the question is, should i purchase the pieces one by one when i need them for club races, or should i just buy the complete package and be done with it? What do you guys think, is 40 bucks an OK price for most of the newer moduls, and some tracks? I guess it will make any additional content that's coming out in the future even cheaper?! At least i heard you only have to pay 1€ instead of 4€ for the new M6, when you already own all of the rest...
Some info appreciated :)

I recently wondered the same myself, and almost settled on the route you've gone down in buying individual cars as I need them. But when you look at the complete package and the HUGE discount you get by buying it, it's a very good deal. You could pay the same or more for another sim and all of it's DLCs and still end up with less content than you get in R3E. So in other words, I'd go the whole hog and buy EVERYTHING. :)
