Porsche 911 RSR 2017 Delayed for Assetto Corsa

Kunos Simulazioni have confirmed today that the much anticipated Porsche 911 RSR 2017, due to be released as part of the third and final Porsche DLC instalment for Assetto Corsa, has been delayed until early 2017.

Regretfully Kunos been unable to complete the new for 2017 911 RSR in time to meet the December 20th DLC release date, however to ease the disappointment of fans the car has been replaced by the very tasty 911 Turbo S. Additionally Kunos have confirmed the missing 2017 911 RSR will be added as a free update to Volume III, maybe as early as January next year.

Of course the delay will be a disappointment to fans eagerly looking forward to take ownership of the Porsche Volume III DLC pack in just five days time, however the inclusion of a replacement vehicle and a promise to offer up the 911 RSR as a free update (to owners of Vol III) is a very fair compensation by Kunos, and will go some way towards alleviating community criticism following the announcement.

For me the most interesting development from the announcement is the speed in which Kunos have been able to offer up the replacement 911 Turbo S. Does this mean the studio are quietly working behind the scenes on additional Porsche cars outside of the three already known DLC packages? Could 2017 bring yet more legendary machines currently not included in the known vehicles already confirmed or released for Assetto Corsa? Mmm, interesting...

"We’re aware that the Porsche 911 RSR 2017 is one of the most sought after cars in the Porsche Pack Vol. 3 DLC and we know how excited the community is after seeing it unveiled just a few weeks ago. Right now, we’re working incredibly closely with the Porsche R&D department in order to reproduce this car the best we can!

The 911 RSR 2017 is not an upgrade of the previous model, but a totally new car. As we want to ensure the best experience possible from this amazing model, we... unfortunately need to spend a bit more time on it, meaning it won't be released as part of the Porsche Pack Vol. 3 DLC next week.

We know this will come as a disappointment to our community but please be rest assured, the wait will be worth it! However, we wanted to find a way to apologize for the delay…

Since we announced the Porsche Program, we noticed that some players were disappointed with the absence of the 911 Turbo S. Today, we’re pleased to announce that the Porsche Pack Vol. 3 DLC will now include the 911 Turbo S!

As for the 911 RSR 2017, this will be available as a FREE upgrade of the Porsche Pack Vol. 3 DLC in January!"​

well it matters, try racing the 2014 F1 car vs the 2017 F1 car, it matters a lot, 2016 would be even better since the engine is the same.

They do change but it's for most of the cars on the grid. Read "homologated" and "BOP". Two reasons why a 997 GT3 can still win a race in 2016.

No need to discuss race car performance without BoP, because it's BoP that ultimately dictates race car performance on track. Tobiman is right.

Maybe because the real car doesn't have its first race until this weekend so it's possible Porsche will want them to make some tweaks based on the final race specs.

I didn't take it that way, no worries. None of us know for sure when it will be released, but considering the car hasn't actually raced in anger yet I think it's safe to guess Porsche may want them to not release it until they have the final final final specs for the car (which they pretty much should have by this point since the race is this Saturday). It's a bit odd to have a car announced for a game when that car hasn't actually raced yet, and I'm not sure how many people realize the situation.

I think the initial release for December included the RSR before it even raced because it already has a ton of testing behind it, according to Porsche Motorsport more than any other car they've developed. That should be enough data Porsche could provide to replicate it. And the performance of the 2017 GTE grid doesn't matter to AC yet as there are no other 2017 GTE cars in the sim to balance against, the data provided for the car alone should make for a slightly faster car than the 2015 C7.R.

But perhaps the real car wasn't ready yet. Perhaps someone at Porsche decided last minute not to release data like that (even if just an approximation for the sim) before the first technical inspections and race at IMSA. Or perhaps Kunos wasn't ready yet. Who knows.

Still hoping it'll release this or early next month because I want to drive it, but we wouldn't have a balanced GTE field regardless.

Should be out before he weekend did not AC say the 27th Jan , that is one day before the race.

Porsche maybe did not want anyone taking a look at their new car to close yet even if its only in a simulation.
It could still be a source of information that rivals could gains some advance understanding of the cars new aero packages & detailing of the body work , even something as crazy has analyzing the data used to model the cars Physics.
teams will use any date on rival teams even when it come from odd sources like the sim racing world.

The car has never raced yet outside testing so they wont want to give anything away until its at the event & racing.
It could that simple at the end of the day.
would imagine we will be getting some new in the next day or so closer to the event.

We made a big deal about the sale of AC and things since have quieted down with highlands track and audi but it feels like behind the scenes a lot of things did change.

However Toyota TS040 was announced 2014 who really knows how far ago that screenshot is from.
