On which device are you playing your racing sims?

I'm actually surprised at how few people use a triple screen setup.
Me too. For all the posts I see from people asking for settings or complaining that it isn't properly supported by [XYZ], it has surprisingly few users in this poll. Just goes to show that a vocal minority can have a huge affect on the perception of an issue.

Also, I think VR being around 20% shows that it really is no longer a minority thing in sim-racing, at least not here on RD. Beats triple-screen by far, apparently.

Playing on a single 19'' monitor due to space limitations. I voted for "normal monitor" because I know most people are playing in bigger screens. VR would be the only realistic way to improve my visual experience, although I'm pretty sure I need to upgrade my PC (built in 2015) before that. And obviously get the wheel I don't have.

I had 3x 21in (a little small but worked) one broke and it was the highest refresh rate monitor. So it was replace all with bigger monitors or an 49in Ultrawide 144hz the Ultrawide won, cost less and no bezel!
I also have an Oculus Rift This is ok for single player and maybe some small grid multiplayer. I struggle a bit with the resolution. My system is a ok for VR but could do with more vooma to improve VR is really cool for immersion and I do enjoy it but for serious events it is the Ultrawide, hitting the buttons on the buttonbox is a bit more accurate.

I use triple screen myself. VR is too expensive for me in its current state.

VR grabbed quite a few of the former triple screen users, but I don't think we've ever been more than 15% of the total. Plus today's sims require a top end GPU to get more than 60 fps without turning down settings and the top end GPUs have become sooo expensive.

Hmm, I wonder how many of the "other" votes are 3D monitors from 8 years ago? @Spinelli was the only one I can recall having one, but maybe there are a few others?

Were the 3D monitors any good for racing?

Here's Spinelli's report

Once you find your peace with VR, there is no way back. Unfortunately not all titles are VR friendly, so you just learn to ignore them.

Can we get this to 1000 Votes please RD Fans? I have a bet with someone that VR will finish above 20% with 1000, he said nearer 10%....I think I'm gonna win!

In this case, I'm pretty sure the following applies:
- normal is 16:9
- widescreen is 21:9
- ultra widescreen are the 32:9 49" monsters.

That would mean I just voted incorrectly, as I use a 19" 4:3 CRT monitor.
Guess that's where "change vote" comes into play.

Emery is incorrect.

"Normal" is 4:3, widescreen is 16:9 and ultrawide is 21:9. You voted as you should've.

It's rather hard to believe that in 2021 almost 40% of sim racers (or gamers in general) are using a 4:3 monitor.

I thought I was special.
I suspect it's a mixture of people spending money on other areas instead (wheels, pedals) and people misunderstanding "normal" for widescreen, as can be seen above. Widescreen feels normal in 2021, so people probably click on it before understanding what they're really selecting.

Have put in my vote, but just need to clarify:

'normal' = 4:3 montior
'widescreen' is 16:9/16:10?

As im pretty sure most "young'uns" have put normal when they mean widescreen as they have probably never come across an old 4:3 before!

In this case, I'm pretty sure the following applies:
- normal is 16:9
- widescreen is 21:9
- ultra widescreen are the 32:9 49" monsters.

Then that might a problem looking later at results here...

  • "Normal monitor" is actually 4:3 and 5:4 aspect ratios (old, now discontinued), but it seems the true Widescreen format is being considered instead (and wrongly) as "Normal monitor" ?

  • "Widescreen monitor" is 16:9 and 19:10 aspect ratios, when it's being (wrongly) considered as "Normal monitor" here, it seems?

  • "Ultrawide monitor" is 21:9 and 32:9 aspect ratios, and my guess is that there are people using these and (wrongly) voting on "Widescreen monitor".

IMO, this shoud have been clarified, and aspect ratios should have been placed in each category to avoid confusions and skewed results.
I removed my vote for now. (edit: nope, can't unvote now)
