Mountain drive

I currently modelling a car which I hope to have in GTLegends some day:turtle: Today I went for a trip, seeking some inspiration in the mountains and I thought I'd share my pictures with you guys.

After work today I took the top down, rolled down the windows and launched into the valley. After the gearbox and engine had warmed up it was time to unleash the madness(all 120hp:)) The Mazda was terrific on these roads. It hits the sweet spot between 4000 and 5500rpm and it was mostly 2nd and 3rd gear through the corners. The road is just wide enough for one car, so you constantly hear the exhaust symphony, and a batalion of timed pops/bangs, bounce of the nearby rocks. The good thing about driving a convertible is that you hear any imediate loss of grip. Braking hard to a hairpin you can hear the front tires making some sshhy sounds as you feather the middle pedal over the sandy road. Stomp on the loud pedal and you hear the rear tires churning the gravel. The rear end steps out and slides out of the corner:love2:

The mountain on first picture starts from sealevel and rise to about 1900m.
The 4th last picture shows the place I work. Aluminum production

The trip was very succesful as I found many features that my car needs. As it will be a kind of Targa Floria car, it needs some ground clearance and a good suspension for rough surface. It will definitley be an open car with no doors, but a small windscreen.

As for the engine I'm thinking of a longitudinal V6 or a transverse V12, about 2l in size and ca. 250hp.

The front suspension will be a double wishbone lightweight pullrod type and the rear will be a double wishbone with still unknown springing setup.

Will let you know how the car evolves

Woow.. So beatiful places. That should be funny Knut. I hope you found your inspiration.

And did you mean a 3d modeled car for Gtlegends ? Sorry for the stupid question:th_blush:.

Yes Omer. The plan is to first design the parts in CAD software (including about 10 stress analyses per part). When I'm finished I know the weight and inertia of all components.

....then I'll export the models to GTL and build up a good physics file.

Here's a picture of the front wheel and the ongoing suspension design

Wow that's a great work. I'm also working with MAYA for about one year :) . But i can't model even that tyre :D

Some more photos. This road has been replaced by a tunnel through the mountain because of too many rocks falling down. It was pretty much deserted and just wide enough for one car. As you can see in the pics the road havn't been maintained and the trees hit the car from both sides some places. Also saw 2 deers, but they are too fast to catch on camera:)

Today I stopped at a dragrace on my way back from Trondheim. Really amazing cars with up to 1500hp. Really cool to see the the doors almost fall of from a pulsating 660cin V8:)

The junior dragsters were cool too. Standing 5m behind the car, the exhaust pulses hit me hard in the chest! Briggs and Stratton power:)

And what a noise! There's nothing like 1500 methanol-drinking horses prancing in front of you with the most evil roar:)

Yesterday I drove the LONG way home. It was the last day with the Mazda so I took a 13 hour trip. I visited some famous driving roads and some tall mountains. The weather was not the best so I only attached pictures from Trollstigen where the weather is OK. The inlined pictures are not mine

The road you see in the attached pictures is Trollstigen. "The Trolls ladder" if you translate to english. Birds view:

I also drove Ørnevegen, The Eagles road....
ornevegen.jpg

...down to geiranger:
800%20-%209%20geiranger.jpg

I then starded climbing up from sea level to 1495m to Dalsnibba:
800%20dalsnibba.jpg

After that the journey went back to 300m above sea, visiting the beautiful places Lom and Skjåk.

Then it was time to go climbing again:) Now up to about 1400m following the excellent road over Valdresflya:
valdresflya.jpg

I don't know how many hairpins I took yesterday! It was awesome, the mazda is really shining in those 2nd gear corners. I also had a little jump out of a fast right hander, thankfully the mazda has a soft roof:)
