Studio 397 have confirmed the exciting news that the famous streets of Monaco will be coming to the simulation soon...

… but in the Formula E configuration, and not the more well known Grand Prix circuit that remains virtually unchanged during its long stay on the Formula One calendar.

Joining both Hong Kong E-Prix and Lester Special Edition as Formula E tracks, the inclusion of Monaco is another important step towards fleshing out the electric racing specific content within the simulation, and should be a good location in which to drive a number of different cars that are currently available for rFactor 2.

Although Monaco is the headline from the latest roadmap release, Studio 397 had plenty more to say on the future of the sim - all of which can be read in full below:

When you work hard, times just flies by, so it’s not a surprise that it feels like we just wrote our previous roadmap some days ago.

The roadmap this month takes us to the second-smallest, most densely-populated country in the world and home to many past and current racing drivers. But not just there. We basically travel everywhere and show you what´s happening in the big rFactor 2 world. No matter if you are looking for build updates, news about upcoming content or where to find the right competition for you, it’s all here and it’s called Roadmap!

Formula E Monaco e-Prix
If you had not already guessed from our introduction, the big news this month is the announcement of a new track, the Monaco e-Prix, which twists and turns through the beautiful city streets. Scheduled to be released at the same time Formula E drives the real race, this track is based on laserscan data and CAD from Formula E, ensuring an accurate layout. The track complements our existing Formula E portfolio, which features the recently released “Gen 2” car, as well as the Hong Kong and Lester tracks, and puts us in the lead in terms of Formula E content in any racing simulation.

Updates on work in progress
Later this year we are going to go 64 bit only with our rFactor 2 builds. This move was triggered by the fact that Steam hardware surveys show us that only 0.5% of our users are still on a 32 bit build, whilst within the global Steam community, this number is less than 2% too. All hardware you can buy for many years now is 64 bit, so it’s time to move forward. Doing so will save us time building and testing code, which we can then spend on improving the simulation as a whole.

There are several bits of documentation we’re currently adding. First of all, we have a guide on how to create your own car pack. For our modding community we have now documented the new IBL/PBR based car shader, detailing how to use it when creating your own car.

In our ongoing UI previews we share with you some of the things that are in right now and being actively tested. One important one is the matchmaker, which will make a triumphant return back in game! For now it’s the bare minimum to assure it’s working, but we intend to use the flexibility the new UI allows us, to add more features.

And just something gadgety-cool and nouveau to look forward to, a live trackmap/loading screen drawn from the actual track data – because what’s more useful than a track map before you blast out on track, and look it even has the pitlane (click on the image below to see it in motion)!

rF2 UI Update 2.gif

With the announcement of the second of three iconic tracks in progress, it’s time to take a look at the progress on the Nürburgring. Last month we reported we were pretty much on schedule, and that is still the case.

On the side of cars, now that the Formula E Gen 2 car has been released, we’re shifting our focus again to the Tatuus cars. They’re all drivable, the models and sounds are mostly done and we’re now tweaking and bugfixing them.

Community and Competitions
As promised on last years Simracing expo already, we continue our efforts to bring more activations and competitions to rFactor 2, enabling our drivers to enjoy racing in different championships around the globe. We want to make sure that you can find not just the best competitions in our Sim, but also the best drivers, while also giving people the chance to move their way up the leader-board and put their name on the map for drivers to look out for.

A1esports
We are more then happy to welcome A1 Telekom as one of our new partners with their A1 esports series. It´s already the third season, but new to this esports event, which features an offline final in Vienna, is rFactor 2 now. This esports championship is open to all drivers that live in a german speaking region (Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Lichtenstein and Luxembourg). If you live in one of these regions, the 7.000 Euro prizepool is surely something worth going for. On top of that you also get invited to the Offline Final in Vienna, racing on a stage. We are sure that this will be a blast. Wondering what you need to do for that or where to sign up? Just use this link. Happy Racing!

ESL MAPFRE Season 2
We started the journey with ESL and their first rFactor 2 Championship a while ago and what a journey it was. Awesome offline final, close racing action and great broadcasts. You missed that? How could you, it was for 20.000 Euro?! But don´t worry, ESL just announced their second season and it will soon be underway with the qualifier. More infos about that can be found on their site.

Verified on Discord!
Last, but not least, on the community side we are proud to announce that we now have a formally verified Discord server. We would like to invite you to drop by for an informal chat. Most of the time, there are people from Studio 397 around and you will definitely always meet a few friendly community members willing to help and answer question, or just willing to hop in a race with you!

Announced right ahead of the real race...but without a release date. Sorry, that's a bit disingenuous given the history with track releases noted above in other posts.

Even for the few who really care about this truncated version of the track, when do you think you will be driving on it?
It's right there in the article:
"Scheduled to be released at the same time Formula E drives the real race, this track is based on laserscan data and CAD from Formula E, ensuring an accurate layout."
That would be between May 10 and May 12.

I feel like that is misleading the customer though and if that happens on iRacing that would be frustrating too. It's my hometown track so I was pumped to hear it was coming to rF2 when it was announced. Like I said it isn't unreasonable to expect an update on the status.

Portland was mentioned in the December 2018 roadmap:
"In the first quarter of the year, we announced that we would start our first laser scanned track, Sebring. We also continued to work on Zandvoort and signed a license with Portland."

Oops, my mistake. Guilty of getting caught up in thread replies and not thoroughly re-reading the original. Let's hope when it comes out on schedule, it is in finished state.

They just repeated what was known 12 months earlier without even acknowledging they missed their general planned release range. That statement tells us less than what was already stated in the 2018 January road book.

I can't believe people like Coldplay, but they do, it's called Personal Preference and freedom of choice to race what they want.
Lol:)
Amen to that sir!
And i have too much fun with the MR18...so probably the same counts for myself
(edit 3:O_o:): but at least i hear an engine...that's half of the fun...at least, right?
They should really make some sort of amazing high pitched engine whine that gives me goosbumps to i actually hear there is power in those machines...
But...Coldplay...right!!;)

Terribly misleading title - you need to fix it, good coverage otherwise.

Seems that rF2 is nowadays only GT3, GTE, LMP and Formula E simulator.:(
There are some great old content(ISI/S397) like EVE, Spark etc and only Howstons are updated to DX11. Many people still loves older cars and what I have heard they are not going to bee updated.
When Howston G4 and G4 was updated years back in time it was promised that realistic cluch and drivetrain will also soon bee updated :O_o:. It would bee nice to get some older cars and series to rF2 with cluch and transmission models and not only tivoli cars like Formula E and all aids rides like GT3 etc.

Are you sure the Spark and Eve are not DX11, I thought they were? I've certainly driven them in the rain online and I've never noticed anything strange. If I'm wrong, I will happily hold my hand up. @Marcel Offermans appologies, I know you're a busy man, but could you shed any light on this matter please?
TIA. :)

There is probably a reason beyond S397 why the F1 Monaco track is not featured in any existing race sim outside of Codemasters F1 series, it would surely be included in big sims like AC or pCars if it was a viable option.
It is included in pcars2 as "azure". I assume developpers can use roads datas, which are public domain (monaco is a street circuit, the roads are not private), but can't use the name of the track as it must be protected as a brand. Not having the name is a problem though, as you didn't know for example yhat the track was in pcars.

I stand corrected. I drive the F3 Spark and Eve a lot and I love em, but horses for courses.
The BT 20 would make a pretty good substitute if I just had to have DX11, but fair enough, I take your point.

The bug fixes seem to have been coming more regularly, this last couple of weeks, so I'm hopeful that S397 are taking some of the (at times and from some individuals, quite heavy) criticism to heart, and acting on it. So long as it's done in an adult and balanced way, this can only be a good thing IMO.

Please S397, keep up the good work. Do your best to strike a balance between pushing the game forward, bringing new content to the game and working on fixing some of the many niggles that people have had with the game over the years. It clearly isn't an easy task and I guess you'll never please everybody, but (for me) if you keep working this hard, you'll turn rF2 into the sim of choice for many many people. Well done.

The Eve (and Spark) have received updates for DX11 and rain, as you can see from the changelog:

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/changelog/1238620691

Granted, by today's standards the 3D models are a bit old and simple, we did not completely redo them, but we did balance the textures and shaders and applied the rain effects so you should be able to use these cars.

I hope you are not quite correct here.
Because with some helping hand of Marcel Offermans im about to manually install only the base rF2 with only the FR3.5 and exactly the few tracks I can remember from my cute lil non-Steam rF2 install.

But I have a serious question also.
Is there a good recommendable modern Monaco GP version in rF2?
I had ISIs old nice looking paved version of Monaco but I would like a modern version too.

CatsAreTheWorstDogs: Conserning electric cars I have tried Racerooms VW-ID-R on Nordschleife.
In the beginning I thought what a boring "thing".
Boring mainly because its so extremely easy to drive + rather dull listening to.
But I must admit that I got addicted after a couple of laps - hehe and when I got higher up on the LB with 3-4000 participants.:sneaky:

The most important part of the post was promised, but still missing drivetrain simulation...
