Mods and installs question

I've been thinking about this lately
If I download e.g. mods for 60s formulas..Can I or is it wise to install them to same rfactor folder?
Or is it always better to install every different mod to a separate rfactor install?
For example f1 67 and 68,69 and 70 to same install folder? Or separate installs for them all....
And for like gt cars...for example super gt500 and dtm to same or separate..?
V8 supercars and brazilian stockcars to same..or separate?
 
Shouldn't be a problem, it you start seeing cars or upgrades/selections from other mods then be concerned. Modders have been pretty good at keeping things separate in my experience. I have had computer stability/speed issues by having to many mods; 100+rfm's & vehicle dir's. I keep it down to 50 mods though I only play 4-5 ever, why do I do this, I'm stupid!

This clears things for me. So maybe same kind/type of mods is ok to be in same rfactor installation. Is there for
rfactor a some kind of modselector program? Like content manager is for Assetto and GEM+ for GPL...
 
The only issues I've experienced are that many mods install their own loading screens, music, etc., and will overwrite whatever is already there. This doesn't affect the game itself, only what you see and hear as it loads. (I keep the defaults backed up and replace them as necessary, merely for continuity.)

Lol, I must have had at least two dozen assorted GT mods in GTR2, always debating which to use. Eventually I combined them all into one series, with my own GT1, GT2, and GT3 classes based solely on performance, removed duplicate cars and drivers (same cars, different numbers, originally appearing in British, German, Italian, and European series); now have a huge pool of cars for the game to randomly select for any particular race.

I did create different installs for different types of racing - GT, LMP, F1, "club" racing, etc. - this not only speeds up loading but allows me to optimize plr file parameters for each type.

Only thing that needs to be learned by myself is the "AI-calibrations" so that they drive somewhat realistically.
Some mods have good AI from the beginning. Some need adjustments, mostly the tracks AIW things..and I am
very beginner with those things. But I'm going to struggle by trial and error and so forth.
 
Also be sure to set the AI to use your setups (whenever you create a setup the AI will use it for that car at that track), this helps them noticeably; you'll have to recalibrate them occasionally as you make more setups. And tweak the talent files to balance their performance around the track.

Read the Von Dutch AI tutorial (in the GTR2 library here); its basics apply to rfactor also, though actual values will be different, and each sim contains some variables that aren't in the other.

Much of it is trial-and-error, and it is an ongoing project. I've had GTL/GTR2/rfactor roughly twenty years and still feel i spend as much time tweaking as driving.
