Assetto Corsa Digital Bros Takeover.jpg

Early reports suggest Digital Bros Group, an Italian company with offices located around the globe, have purchased Kunos Simulazioni, the development studio responsible for racing simulation Assetto Corsa on both console and PC.

Very little information is known about what the new takeover by Digital Bros Group means for Assetto Corsa going forward, or even if current founders Marco Massarutto and Stefano Casillio will remain with the group following their financial windfall.

Digital Bros Group already have ties with the studio via their ownership of 505 Games, distributors of the console version of Assetto Corsa. In a statement released by the Digital Bros Group, it appears that full ownership of Kunos Simulations has been agreed, transferring ownership of Assetto Corsa and Kunos away from the current founder members Stefano Casillo and Marco Massarutto. With the news only just becoming public knowledge, further plans around how the new structure will look, who remains involved in the title and what the future will hold are short on the ground.

Congrats to the AC team. Hoping for the best for us, but expecting the worse. Time will tell. netKar Pro and AC were game changers for Sim Racing.

I hear (but cannot verify) that Marco will probably be staying put, however what will happen to the other guys I really don't know. I must stress the Marco staying rumour is exactly that, a rumour. Sadly I don't speak Italian and all the info and facts around this seem to be rather confused at the moment. No doubt all will be much more clear tomorrow.

I'll see what I can find out :)
hi Paul i'm italian , what you have hear on italian ? i stay in Rome so very close to Marco ;) he stay on north side i live on south .

i have read a interview of Marco that said "nothing change" probably this agreement is truly sign on 2015, they said that now is only publish what was already made it.
also Digital Bros is italian so difference is no so great on mentality... moreover Marco is already master project of AC ...

My god the sim racing community has become pretty toxic hasn't it? One company gets bought by another, and immediately, without evidence, people start shouting cash grab and preemptively throw in personal attacks at anyone who doesn't agree, to make sure they're silenced before they have an opinion.

What happened to the days where we all played games, raced online and enjoyed it?

I don't remember reading "cashgrab" comments in this, or the other related thread. Maybe there were a handful, I'm certainly not going to search for them. It seems people rather honestly congratulate Kunos guys on making a good deal. Some of us are, however, genuinely concerned about the future, based on the many years of experiences with similar acquisitions, which more often than not didn't end well for customers. The fact is, 100% of shares were bought by DB, so no matter how many "keep calm"-style statements Marco publishes, he's not the one who's going to make final project decisions from now on.

Time will show how the situation unfolds.

Why are so many of you (especially the guys that have proclaimed their disdain for AC over and over) worried about 'the future' when there likely wasn't even going to be a future without a deal like this happening. Marco and Stefano gambled their entire life savings on Assetto Corsa and it was extremely unlikely that they were going to take that kind of risk twice.

This deal all but guarantees that there will be another project from Kunos in the future, be it AC2 or 'something else'.

And what makes you think they were struggling?

You think Digital Bros are going to invest in failing business? They would have paid Stefano and Marco peanuts if financial sheets showed Kunos studios was in debt. Business 101.

Did Kunos ask for donations like AMS?

That end of year blog showed AC was going to have even stronger 2017 than last year. Free DLC, British DLC, Laguna Seca DLC, Ferrari DLC.

Have some faith People like i do.... Stefano and Marco will be well aware of the beneficial moves they have made for both themselves and AC. Since releasing AC has only gone in one direction UP not down and i dont see that changing anytime soon. They will now have greater financial backing and quite possibly. More time to put into other areas now that they don't have the reigns to hold all by themselves. not to mention the extra dev staff that will probably come as a result of this deal. imo AC will be able to progress even more now not less as a result of the buyout . Lets just hope the they have the full intentions of carrying on strong with AC's ascension. And dont go make a bloody sailing game or something:confused:

I just hope they don't take this as a means to do a full-series simulator, I really don't want to buy a touring car-only game or whatever.

Well unless it's more of a full-era thing like they do a set of 60s European tracks + F1/GT/prototypes all the way down to entry level classes.

In fact in the press release it's said that Kunos had 1,7M profit in 2015.

I'm 52 and I don't really understand some of the "toxic" remarks I see about the sell of AC. I've never used a Sim that was perfect. You want bad, go back to the second version of UbiSoft's F1 game.

Anyway my point is we all have our likes and dislikes, yes even with AC. However, this game changed the landscape for Sims to come. I mean they even left it open for the community to mod. That's not a greedy money grab. Quite the opposite in fact.

Did you really think they did this for nothing? You start a business because you (pick one) are passionate about it, make money, take over a market, you think you can do better, you hope to have someone buy you out, leave a legacy etc. etc. etc.. Maybe you do it for all of those reasons. Remember, a man gotta eat.

Think about it, would you want to go through the work again to try and make your product better if you get body slammed because you got a few things wrong. I know I wouldn't. You don't have to suck up to or kiss butt. Constructive criticism goes a long way.

Digital Bros. didn't buy this because it's a trash heap. I believe they saw the future so they bought the "present" and have plans to do even more. I may be wrong, but personally I want to encourage them as much as I can.

JMHO. Peace out and opposite lock

....nice joke, you probably missed a visit in their forums :D constructive criticism leads to one being treated like a little kid or a moron who's head was half a day in the refrigrator the past years.... just don't criticise 'the Lord' and his 'work'.... stay on your knees and look from the ground to your LORD and always start the sentences with 'you have such a great sim, i love it, you are so great, but...".:laugh:
