Introducing the Toyota Celica ST185 for Assetto Corsa

Reveal number four from the upcoming Ready to Race DLC for Assetto Corsa - presenting something slightly different in the form of the Toyota Celica ST185 WRC contender.

We fans are by now well aware that the next car pack from Kunos Simulazioni will be the 10 car strong 'Ready to Race' DLC, designed specifically for fans of racing vehicles and containing a nice mix of modern and historic machinery.

One of the more surprising inclusions into the pack comes in the form of the hugely successful WRC specification Toyota Celica ST185 featured in this article. With Assetto Corsa not particularly known for its loose surface simulation prowess, it is perhaps a little surprising to some to see such an iconic World Rally Championship car finding its way into the game as official paid content. Of course we had the venerable Audi Quattro as free content a few weeks ago, and many at the time thought that would be the beginning of the end for studio released rally spec cars.... not so according to Kunos.

With killer good looks and one of the best paint jobs in motorsport, the Celica could well be a real treat to behold once the 'Ready to Race' DLC pack goes live on Thursday.

Alongside the images revealed by Kunos today, the Italians are keeping up the tradition of writing a few short words about the car, which can be read below:

The Toyota Celica ST185 is Toyota's most successful rally car, winning the WRC Driver's Championship in 1992, and the WRC Manufacturer's and Driver's Championships in both 1993 and 1994.

In order to meet the Group A competition's homologation requirements, 5,000 GT-Four RC production versions of the Celica were manufactured, starting from September 1989.

The Toyota Celica ST185 made its debut at the Monte Carlo Rally, the opening round of the 1992 World Rally Championship series, but it wasn't until mid-season did it then become successful

  • Toyota TS040 Hybrid

Alongside the new DLC pack will come the version 1.14 game update which looks set to contain a number of new and improved features. As a little teaser Kunos have revealed some of the following changes will be included in the new build release:
  • Added wind algorithm
  • Added AI Aggression selection
  • More AI differences within a single lap to generate more battles
  • Added AI wing setup variations
  • New AI algorithms for understeer detection and downshifting
  • Improved Downshift Protection
  • Updated Steam statistic reader to synchronize steam achievement

Assetto Corsa is a racing simulation designed by Kunos Simulazioni and is available for Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and PC. The 'Ready to Race' DLC is scheduled to launch on Thursday 18th May.

What about the C9 :D same category as the mazda 787b and porsche 962 short tail and still failing to make it able to compete with them :D

Essentially, they find what they have and toss it into the game without planning how to make them fit.

If R3E can more or less balance their Group A with old cars like the 635i or 240 with the R32 monster, I do think Kunos needs some sort of default weight ballast for their classes. Doubt they care at this stage so here's more cars with no friends or basic balance! The basic BoP doesn't even have to ultra competitive for league play, just make them more or less fast enough and that's ok for some offline or casual racing.

Well they did not have any other group C back then but the decision to put a lemans Aero c9 in a game with no leamns track, and most of their track being higher downforce tracks, it's just nonsense

no way, what they should do is do the sprint verison of the c9 and belive me it's not minor diference , its like 10 second diference

If they really want to, they can sandbag the sprint version to be roughly as fast as the C9 or reduce the restrictor for the C9 so its faster at something. Doing the sprint version would probably need to go through approvals with a new model which are more work for them. They won't do it at the end considering even having a default BoP is not possible for them.

Minor or major differences won't matter to them, they will still keep tossing out random cars that do not go well with the existing content. The Long Tail 962C goes quite well with C9, IMHO despite it is not the best as C9 is indeed slow.

All and all, so many classes in the game are just a random collection of cars with fairly large performance discrepancy in them that really made them not fun to race. I bet the Toyota and Audi LMP1 will be much slower than the 919 since Kunos never have any sort of default BoP in their cars.
 
Because many of the content does not go well with the existing content. The Escort is just too fast for the GTA, the C9 is too slow against the newer Group C, the 3 GT1s does not even compete in the same 5 years among each other and the list goes on. There is only one Group 5, one Group 6, one Can-Am and the list go on that they have nothing to race with despite they have the license to bring in more. Is this a hot lap simulator or Your Racing Simulator?Part of the problem is Kunos never tried to balance the cars in a class like various game did while the other part is on how they licensed content as no amount of sand bagging will make a Mclaren F1 GT1 have roughly the same pace as a 911 GT1. Why not just license a 1996 911 GT1 so the Mclaren F1 GT1 has something to race with?

Kunos could have planned out what they could expand in the future while trying to avoid bringing so many single cars. Then, license the right cars to fit with the existing content that other developers had been doing. Evidently, they never did, considering the amount of Evoras in the game(and still can't offer an Espirit in AC) while missing out some of the most iconic Porsches like 929, Carrera GT and so on. They license whatever content they can get their hands on without thinking about how to fit them to the existing game. Then, release them a year or so later if not never.

Some of these are unavoidable like the German hill climbs in R3E, various orphaned class in pcars(Group 6, WTCC and so on) but it is difficult to think of a game that has so many mismatched contents in a game. Pretty much the only well-expanded class in AC is GT3 and the really well done single makes while everything else tossed into random classes that really brings out awful racing experiences.

There is nothing to do with the physics or art people when it comes to licensing the right content. It just Kunos had been licensing random cars for years without thinking about how to fit them. The art and physics people only work on the content when it is licensed, not before the specific car is licensed because it would be a waste of money when they could not obtain the car that they are working on for whatever reasons. What is the point of putting a risk in working on something that is not licensed yet? With exceptions with the mod cars that AC had been releasing where Kunos seek for the license to release them. Hence, Stefano would not work on the 250GTO without the car's license in hand unless they are really that disorganized like how they license their cars.

Going back to the argument about keeping people with their jobs, what about all the content promised in the past? Such as the Afla Romeo 33 Daytona, Rufs, rumored Corvettes, Ford GT GT3, various Lamborghini, SCG's road cars and so on? Shouldn't they be working on those cars or it is tossed out of the window then work on unconfirmed licensed content? That does not make any sense at all. Pretty sure those prior cars licensing are done and licensed before they mention about them in public.

This just shows that Kunos had no foresight if not planning on how their content will expand which I hope they will improve this in AC2.
There are simply way too many things you got wrong. Couldn't even be bothered pointing them out. The only reason I replied in the first place was that I owned a Celica, and you are just unreasonable saying contents are terrible. Have a nice day.

Have a nice day. I do not think I am wrong but the fact is, Kunos is great in licensing manufacturers, terrible in picking the right cars to expand the game's content.

I do not mind the Celica but I am pretty pleased to see it as I'll probably drive it with the various road cars like the Quattro. Probably a blast too since it had been years since I see one in a game.

This car is WRONG, mostly the rear, but headlight size is wrong too, and overall front proportions are off.
Don't get me started on that rear window, I can't believe they missed the black frame.

Looks like this was done by the same guy who did the AE86.
OMG the exterior is so wrong all the proportions are bad the bonnet needs to be lower and longer the vent gap on the front is more sided located the ligths are wrong size too and the rear windshield and rear of the car is just waaaaaay too much!!

Holy crap, did a moderator just edited a lot of posts without any kind of offenses just because he can? That's how communities lose members... It's not the first time the same moderator does that... a real shame.

Even a bit of criticism is not allowed, how much Kunos wants to protect their brand reputation? Can't criticize AC on their forums, now, not even in RD. Meanwhile, the mods let the haters go wild on other games. This is what fairness is, i guess.

Going back through the edited thread the criticism regarding classes/content selection is still clearly present. How is that "Even a bit of criticism is not allowed"?
