IMPORTANT - Playstation 3 hit by system clock bug

Users of the older 'fat' PS3's such as the 60GB and 40GB models have experienced problems accessing the Playstation Network today and have also experienced problems playing games with Trophy support and games downloaded from the Playstation Network. Sony believe they have a fix for the problem but recommend users of the older PS3 systems not to use their systems until the problem is resolved. This does not affect the new 'Slim' PS3 models. Users experiencing this problem have reported corrupted data which results in a loss of save games and trophies.

Again, if you have an older PS3 model Sony are advising you do not use it until a fix has been announced as you may lose data, this does not affect newer Slim model PS3's.

From the Official Sony EU blog:
As you may be aware, some customers have been unable to connect to the PlayStation Network today. This problem affects the models other than the new slim PS3.

We believe we have identified that this problem is being caused by a bug in the clock functionality incorporated in the system.

Errors include:
  • The date of the PS3 system may be re-set to Jan 1, 2000.
  • When the user tries to sign-in to the PlayStation Network, the following message appears on the screen; “An error has occurred. You have been signed out of PlayStation Network (8001050F)”.
  • When the user tries to launch a game, the following error message appears on the screen and the trophy data may disappear; “Failed to install trophies. Please exit your game.”
  • When the user tries to set the time and date of the system via the Internet, the following message appears on the screen; “The current date and time could not be obtained. (8001050F)”
  • Users are not able to playback certain rental video downloaded from the PlayStation Store before the expiration date.
We hope to resolve this problem within the next 24 hours. In the meantime, if you have a model other than the new slim PS3, we advise that you do not use your PS3 system, as doing so may result in errors in some functionality, such as recording obtained trophies, and not being able to restore certain data.
As mentioned above, Please be advised that the new slim PS3 is not affected with this error. We are doing our best to resolve the issue and do apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Sony have not officially confirmed it yet but it appears once the systems passed midnight and went into the 2nd of March the affected PS3's corrected themselves. It would be a good idea to wait for official confirmation (I'm off to bed now anyway :) ) but a number of gaming sites have users reporting their systems are now able to log back into the Playstation network and sync trophies etc
 
Yeah guys I just booted up my PS3 now and all seems to be synced up and working properly. Time/date was correct when I turned it on as well. But like Kevin said might be good to wait for official confirmation from Sony on this. For me all is working. Thanks again Kevin.
