Hyundai Motorsport have revealed their brand new Veloster N ETCR electric racer set to debut in the upcoming 2020 ETCR all-electric racing series.
“Through our successful Customer Racing division, we have spent many years honing our skills in touring car racing, which has resulted in two packages capable of competing for championships around the world. ETCR is the natural next step in our journey, and one that aligns perfectly to Hyundai’s global strategy for electric vehicle production,” said Hyundai Motor Group Executive Vice President and Head of Product Division Thomas Schemera.
The new car has been built in anticipation of the new for 2020 ETCR category, and unlike previous generation Hyundai racing cars will be entirely electric - signalling a new chapter in the racing division of the South Korean brand.
Having been in development for the past 12 months, the Veloster N ETCR is expected to conduct further testing ahead of the series debut in 2020, where the new car will line up alongside the already confirmed entries from Cupra - who are already on track with their FIA WTCR derived electric machine.
“We have a detailed test program for the Veloster N ETCR, supported by the fully trained and experienced team of engineers at Hyundai Motorsport; we can’t wait to see the car in action for the first time. The Veloster N ETCR will make an ideal addition to our ongoing commitment to WRC and to Customer Racing through the i20 R5, i30 N TCR and Veloster N TCR.” added Schemera.
The new ETCR series is set to be promoted by Eurosport Events, and is currently looking to gain certification from the FIA to be classified as an officially sanctioned world championship series.
