Another German pole
Yet again one of the German drivers in the field has secured pole position, this time it was Kederer, who beat Engberink time in his final run. Second row is all Williams, with Saidy beating his teammate Utzer. Strong quali performance by Buurlage rewarded with 5th place, just ahead of Steven Poirier. Ancevski just missed out on the top 6, putting his Prost in 7th alongside William Néron. The second Prost of Old Wolf in 9th, and Hunsley completing the top 10. McLaren with a difficult session, Foro in 13th, 3 places ahead of teammate Keranen. Laad only in 17th, but he has always been stronger in races. After 3 races qualifying in last row, the Sauber drivers finally managed to improve slightly, with 18th for Martins and 21st for McNamara.

"P15 for you, 10 seconds behind your teammate and 1.012 seconds behind to the polesitter. Would you expect something much better in qualifying?"
In this qualifying and in my favourite track, our team was stronger than Prost and BAR with my other rival being last in the qualification and my teammate beating both of my rivals. We were ahead of both Benettons, McLarens, Jordans, Prosts, McLarens, Saubers, Minardis and BARs, so we think we can have a good race.

Poirier takes 2nd win of the season
Benetton driver Steven Poirier has taken the win at the Hungarian Grand Prix, thanks to a perfectly working two stop strategy. At the start Kederer kept his lead, while Saidy stormed past Engberink, almost passing Kederer as well. What didn't work in lap 1, worked in lap 2 when Saidy passed Kederer for the lead in turn 1. His teammate Utzer meanwhile had dropped to 6th. In lap 4 he could get past Poirier in 5th. A bit further down the field Old Wolf was building a massive train behind him, with a gap of only about 5 seconds between him in 9th and Goddard in 22nd. In lap 7 however he made a crucial mistake, going way too fast in turn 11, running off the track and straight into the tyre wall. A heavy crash, but luckily he escaped unhurt. Drama for Williams in laps 14 and 15, first Utzer's car stopped with a gearbox failure, then Saidy's engine blew up.
Pitstops started a couple of laps later, and after everyone was refuelled it was Kederer leading, followed by Engberink, Buurlage, Poirier, Foro and Ancevski. During those laps Goddard too retired with a blown engine. In lap 36 Laad retired with the third engine failure of the day. One lap later Foro suddenly stopped his car, his gearbox had failed. This promoted Keranen and Hunsley into the points, both had passed Ancevski the laps before.
Kederer and Engberink then came in for their second stops, handing the lead to Buurlage. Poirier was running in second, followed by Hunsley. Kederer was in 4th after his stop, while Engberink had dropped to 9th. Hunsley had to prepone his final stop, reporting some problems with the brakes he pitted in lap 47. In lap 57 Martins retired from 6th with a gearbox failure.
After Buurlage and Poirier had made their final stops, Kederer and Engberink were back in 1st and 2nd, but they still had to stop. Buurlage and Poirier were in 3rd and 4th, and the gap was small enough to regain the lead after the stops. Keranen was running in 5th, he too had to make another stop, and Hunsley was in 6th. The final stops then came, Buurlage took the lead, Poirier right behind him in 2nd. Kederer rejoined in 3rd with a gap of 10 seconds, while Engberink dropped to 7th. Hunsley was in 4th, McNamara who had shown a fantastic pace so far was in 5th and Diehl in 6th place. While battling for the lead with Poirier Buurlage made a mistake, running off the track in turn 4 and crashing into the wall. Diehl also couldn't keep his points position, in lap 69 he spun in turn 1, dropping him to last place.
Poirier took the win with a comfortable gap to Kederer in 2nd. Hunsley in 3rd another few seconds behind, he had to fight hard to keep McNamara and Engberink behind him. Last point went to Keranen, who finally had a trouble-free race.

FIA Press Conference
@Steven Poirier: Lucky that Buurlage made the mistake, or do you think you also could've passed him on track in the final laps?
@James McNamara: Strong performance today, why is it that you can't show this speed in the qualifying?
@Aidan Keranen: Finally a race without any kind of problems or mistakes, happy?
@Lesley Buurlage: Just how gutted are you, throwing away an almost certain win?

Market is open!

The...serious freak.

"Your teammate was leading the race to take Arrows' first win this season, but a terrible moment come at Turn 4 and only you, Andy, finished the race in 13th. How disappointing is that?"
Even if it's one of my favourite F1 tracks it is the most disappointing race I have ever seen. For the next race I'll hope we will get a very better result.

Saving.

Very happy today, but in the back of my mind annoyed that my 2 points this season have been 10 rounds apart. Xen scored 13 in that space, not to mention he has now gone on a barren run too.
In the end I am looking to stay in Woking, we've had pace but not reliability for some reason. Another season without these horrors should set us up nicely.
+1 quali HP
+1 race HP

Feels good to see the checkered again, also converting the pole to some points.

FYI, next contract offers will probably be sent out tomorrow.
