Saidy wins the German GP
Another win for the Williams team, this time taken by Rami Saidy. Profiting from a crash of his teammate Utzer, the Brit could take his second win this season.
At the start the top 3 remained unchanged, while Ancevski could climb up to 4th. His move on Herbert however was controversial, he just pushed him off track in the first chicane. With their supreme engine power the Williams could quickly open a gap, while in the rest of the field drivers were battling for positions. Pablo Diehl risked a bit too much, running off track in the entry to the Motodrom, dropping to last place. Said had a great pace thanks to a lighter car, climbing up to 5th place. First retirement in lap 10 as McNamara crashed out in the first corner. One lap later Lintner retired in an almost identical way. In lap 13 Diehl's race came to an end, while trying to fight back through the field he again ran off the track in the entry to the Motodrom, this time however he couldn't keep the car out of the wall. Shortly after that Buurlage had to stop his car with a gearbox failure.
Said and Black, who were the only two stoppers today, came in around lap 15. Keranen joined them involuntarily, electric problems with his car forced him to prepone his one and only stop. Another crash in lap 19, Rautavaara had spun into the tyrewall in Sachs corner. The one stoppers then all started to come in for their stops. Similar to the scenes of the British GP, Utzer again made a mistake right after his stop. He spun off in turn 1, damaging the car and ultimately retiring from the race he had dominated so far. Saidy inherited the lead, followed by Said, Engberink, Kederer, Black and Hunsley. When Said and Black made their second stops, Ancevski and Laad got up in the top 6.
In lap 35 Kederer's Ferrari engine blew up spectacularly, once again costing him a top finish. The order then was Saidy leading ahead of Engberink and Hunsley. Laad running in 4th after passing Ancevski, and Herbert now in 6th. The latter ones were running extremely close, swapping positions a couple of times. That went well until lap 41 when they made contact, dropping Herbert to 6th behind Said, and Ancevski out of the points to 11th. In lap 43 both Goddard and Wolf retired with blown engines, however they were both classified as there were only 2 laps left to go.
