Hi Johnny, some good news for me about flickering ? By the way I have 2 other questions regarding old tracks. How to darken white pit buildings (this is about GSCE converted to AMS) ? Beyond obviously the "intensity" string in .SCN. The second concerns the white lines at the sides of the road, that in some cases are blurred in the distance, but come into focus as your car goes ahead. Thanks again.
Oops, I knew I was forgeting something...sorry about that. Anyway, here are the notes I have gathered over the years. The "-------------------" lines seperate different posts, authors of the posts. I do not take credit for this info, I just copied/pasted for my own knowlage. Here is a copy/paste of what I have gathered:
---------------------------------------------------
There are a number of tracks with flickering textures.
Often you will notice that the flickering only happens when
using the cockpit view.
If this is the case it can usually be fixed by altering the appropriate
vehicles .cam file for the mod you are using.
Using the ILMS Aston Martin as an example,
the file is located at
Gamedata/Vehicles/ILMS/AstonMartinDBR9/DBR9_cams.cam
Open it up in notepad and look for the section
LocalCam=COCKPIT then alter the clip plane to read
'ClipPlanes=(0.175000,500.000000)
in many cases it should eliminate flickering almost entirely.
As it's only a cam edit it won't cause a missmatch and should be a
fix for those with problems.
I've used on several occasions with great results.
-------------------------------------------------------------------
I was slightly annoyed by some 3D objects popping up slightly later on a
few tracks and came across this useful tweak,
it won't create any mismatches and has only upsides
if you're not running an ancient PC:
To significantly increase draw distance of 3D objects on all tracks you
should use a higher "LODMultiplier" value in the "HISTORICFIAGT.cam" file.
Go to "GameData\Vehicles\HISTORIC GT\HISTORICAL FIA GT",
open the .cam file (there's only one).
The default setting is: LODMultiplier=(1.00000)
*(For the AMS F-Vee I changed it to: LODMultiplier=(10.00000) Johnny Speed)
Be sure to change the multiplier for the appropriate view you are using,
changing multipliers for hood view will have no effect in cockpit.
This is easily done in a few seconds, fixed all 3D pop ups on all tracks for me,
didn't have a noticable impact on fps and causes no mismatches online.
If your pc struggles to run rFactor at decent framerates in the first place,
you might want to skip this or use a lower value than i did though.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This is in specific reference to Lienz GP Short but it will cover all tracks I'm sure.
Research says alter the LOD multiplier in the mods cam file.
I did (1.0000 to 100.0000) and it improved the popups great but a mountain still has draw issues.
I don't know if it's 'fixable' or not?
So which is the best way to improve draw distance, popups and flickering textures?
I also read something about clip planes but is that in the cam file or a track file?
going to try changing to 1000.0000 see if it makes a difference......

For the Popups edit the *.SCN file of the Track.
At the first lines you'll find the entry View=mainview and in it the line ClipPlanes=(XXX,YYY),
set the second Value to a higher number, it's like a LodOut.
But notice, in the View=mainview section is the View=rearview section included,
which has the same line, but that only affects the mirrors.
And the Textureflickering in most cases can't be solved by editing textfiles, i would say,
it's caused by the meshes/their material settings.

I hope this helps you
