An impossible event during the break week of our Formula L Championship:

Welcome to the RD Racing Club.

Jim Clark won fourteen World Championship Grand Prix races in the Lotus Type 25. But this was in the 1960s - nowadays even a Hot Hatchback like the Abarth 500 EsseEsse can touch the old Formula One car! (Diligent tests with 100% AI have shown lap times for the EsseEsse to be 2:00.750 and the Lotus to be 2:00.725)
So it's up to us drivers now to decide which one is faster!

A race with these two cars is only possible in simracing on the idyllic Bikernieki Ring of Skill by the talented creator @martinsh . This layout is normally used for motorbike races, but those two cars are small enough for some intense battles...

Event details:
  • 20:00 CEST, 19:00 BST (18:00 UTC) | 60 minutes - Official Practice
  • 21:00 CEST, 20:00 BST (19:00 UTC) | 20 minutes - Qualification
  • 21:20 CEST, 20:20 BST (19:20 UTC) | 40 minutes - Race
  • One pit stop is mandatory (put at least 1 liter of fuel into your tank)
  • Further info on the event page (see "Sign up" link above)

Sounds like a lot of fun! Any chance of a two race format so we get to experience both sides? :)
Hmmm... we could shorten quali and race, and I could set up two sessions...
Maybe just 10min quali, 25min race, and again 10min quali 25min race. Each time people need to choose a different car, and after the races I'll calculate the overall winner? So some folks drive the F1 first and the EsseEsse second, and some folks the other way around.

Seems like a bit more work, but could be really interesting! Thoughts?

that format did work fine with that Christmas Panda vs. Transit race.

I'll have to fix my gdm pedals first before thinking about joining this :roflmao:

I'll make a quick poll for format change when (if) we've reached more than 10 drivers - at the moment we're seven, but there's still some time to register.

I contemplated for some time whether to do two races where every participant drives every car, or not. My point of view right now is, that whenever I'm hosting an event in that manner, people should just choose the one car they like the best. My tests beforehand are quite diligent to find two (very) different cars with the same pace which should make a good racing experience. Some car may have loads of grip in the corners, and the other just massive acceleration but loses grip around every curve, so they can both be equally fast around a lap.

So - at least for next Thursday - let's do the one-long-race format as described in the first post of this thread.

And I'm hoping for more people to join! Either in the grippy modern hot hatchback or the dangerous but rewarding Formula One car of the Sixties!

I'm sure it'll be a lot of fun!

This event is canceled, regrettably. We had 10 people before who did register, but right now there are only four, which doesn't really work out...

@cerebralvortex @Casper de Wit and @Allan Ramsbottom - I'm sorry if you were looking forward to todays race. Let's hope that we can do it another time when there are more people interested.

In any case, I'd be really interested to know why six people unregistered - I don't have their names anymore listed, but if they could reply here or in a private message to me with their reasons, that'd be very useful for me, so for future events I can try to mitigate any issues that may have been made on my part.

Hope to see you all soon again in other races!

My reason may be a bit arrogant, but based on the people who were signed up (and the low amount), even starting from the back would've resulted in a 40 minute hotlap session for me.
At that point, I'd rather do something else with my time.

Yeah, that's totally understandable (and not arrogant at all in my opinion).
I still really want to host this event, because those two cars fit perfectly on the track, and their different behaviour should lead to exciting situations.
I'm completely open for suggestions about tweaks and changes to the event for the next attempt for this race.

I'm not one of the unregistered but for me Thursdays is a no go. I already race Sunday, Tuesday & Weds so another night is too much. If you could get together with Han & Brian and come up with some combo's for the 'usual' club nights then you might get more involvement from the regulars.

I'm a big fan of the Lotus 25 and these would be great on some Fat Alfie tracks. Not sure I'm that interested in a match up against a modern car - but I see what you were trying to do.

Markus,

My offer to use a Tuesday stands. I will probably join then also. April 12th is free at the moment.
And you can add a slightly slower car for @Enzo Fazzi so he will have his challenge!
