Codemasters have released the latest update for Dirt Rally: Tarmac Terrors. The update brings 12 new stages, 5 new rally cars and a number of other updates and fixes.

"Month three of DiRT Rally and our next big update is now live. Version v.0.5 - more commonly known as the Tarmac Terrors update - has now been added to DiRT Rally; it’s fast paced, technical and is going to require all your focus. Here’s the full run down of what you can expect in this month’s update."

The update adds a number of new cars, and tarmac stages set in Germany:
  • 12 new rally stages based at Baumholder in Germany
  • Owners Club Online Events – A second DiRT Daily where you compete in your own car
  • A second weekly event where we’ll be experimenting and throwing new challenges at you
  • 5 new rally cars featuring new Group B RWD & Kit Car Classes
  • Opel Kadett GT/E 16v
  • Opel Manta 400
  • Lancia 037 Evo 2
  • Seat Ibiza Kitcar
  • Peugeot 306 Maxi
  • New calibration and options screens in “Advanced Wheel Settings” (added in v.0.4.5)

Along with new features, Codies have been busy fixing a number of bugs.
  • Error 41 – Fixed instances of the game not booting when there is less than 2GB of free space on C:\ drive. This was one of the causes of the dreaded error 41.
  • Achievement – “Going up in the world” will now pop if you had previously purchased a Hillclimb car but not received the achievement.
  • Stability – Driving the Peugeot 405 T16 would sometimes cause stability issues, we’ve fixed those now.
  • Graphics – Quite a few changes for users running Nvidia SLI. That weird black and orange screen bug is fixed and we’ve solved the graphical corruption when using SLI and anti-aliasing on high/ultra graphical presets.
  • Audio – The engine audio level in cockpit view can now be properly controlled by the slider.
  • Gameplay – The reset button should appear sooner during those awkward moments when you beach your car at the side of the road. Though we advise not beaching your car.
  • Gameplay – Sometimes you could rev the engine so hard on the Audi Sport Quattro the “Recover vehicle” prompt would pop up, it won’t do that anymore.
  • Gameplay – We’ve planted some trees and shrubs in areas of Greece and Wales where we spotted that some of you were taking shortcuts. Taking some cuts in rally is cool but these cuts were definitely not cool.
  • Gameplay – Fixed a loophole which would let you continually repair your car in Online Hillclimb events.
  • Gameplay – Online Hillclimb events will now factor in slower times from Run 2 and they won’t overwrite faster times from Run 1.
  • Message box – Stopped the Promotion message box from incorrectly displaying when you have completed the Masters Championship and finished in the top 3 positions.
  • Save – Your advanced set ups should now save as expected
  • Oculus – Sometimes the background on the main menu would vanish, we’ve fixed that now.
  • Online Events – You’ll now be disqualified if you don’t start moving within a minute
  • Leagues – Made the text on the league screens easier to read on lower resolutions.
  • Audio – Pre-update your co-driver may have become a little disinterested if you left the centre of the track from time to time, we’ve spoken to him about his attitude.
  • Audio – Ever had two sets of music play over a replay? That’s not a remix version and it should stop happening from now on.
  • Controller Fix – Fixed an issue which meant players couldn’t change the stage conditions when using the Microsoft Sidewinder Wheel.
"To get the latest update you don’t need to do anything, simply fire up Steam and the full update should automatically download to your PC."

Are you excited for the new update? We sure are. Tell us your thoughts below.

Still no grip/gravity update !

The cars still stop too fast !

Just try to ease off of the throttle and the cars stop soo fast even when you're driving downhill ?

Feels like the cars are under water when you let go of the throttle.

Codies need to work on this.

Although I strongly agree with you just remember this game is still in pre-release stage, hopefully they do fix it by the official release though

Thats really great for you. Many people are asking for external proper track replay cams which the game has not got, but yours does. Nice one. Can you share the secret that makes yours different to ours?
There are 8 cameraviews i can switch in replay mapped to the buttons 11 and 12 on my TX-wheel. With other wheels they are mapped to other buttons. Or what do you mean? You can even remap the keys by editing your profile in the DiRT Rally/input folder.

Forget it. You just don't understand.

Care to elaborate on why?

Most likely the same reason that I got a refund on pCars. The game wasn't what I expected, and In the 14 days you have to make a choice, I didn't get a feeling that the devs were able to make it into what I looked for and/or expected.
I can see why people think the same about Codemasters and DiRT Rally. It is a fair thing, and I don't see any reason to not get a refund if you ain't happy with the game :)

The problem is, that the camera-view isn't locked to what you choose. If you want to have an external "tv" style cam from the whole stage, that is virtually impossible, as the cameras change whenever they want to.
You can't just choose a camera view on the replay, and have it locked to that view.

I had Dirt for around 2 months so I guess I was lucky to get a refund. But equally if you own a game for 2 months that is broken and the devs don't fix it I guess you are entitled to one. Good on steam for doing the decent thing though.

See my demo video below. Note that this is not Rally driving, I can't teach you how to drive rally car but this is just a demo for how fast car stops if you take your foot off the accelerator pedal...for me the car not stop too fast, if gear is too low and you have speed so of course car stops faster...that called transmissions...so Dirt Rally works very well for me in this case.

Hope I can find more time to practising rally driving, with this sim this is fun, RBR was good also but this is much better, thanks again all developers who made this masterpiece possible :)

But the devs have stated that there is a problem. The Audi Quattro Group B is the worst car when it comes to this, you can get through a whole stage just braking for hairpins. This is probably caused by too much drivetrain friction. The Pikes Peak cars do not suffer from this. All the other cars will be tweaked later on.

Error 41. And the way Codemasters added new content constantly without fixing it. It affected a lot of people and I was disappointed that they did so little to address it. I had the game for around 2 months and never got on it once

I had Error 41 a short period when my HDD was running out of space. I moved my Steam folder to a bigger partition and the problem stopped.

Indeed, you were quite lucky!

From the Steam Refund terms: The Steam refund offer, within two weeks of purchase and with less than two hours of playtime

The driving in the video is much to slow to show the problem of losing momentum due to the fact that the cars stop faster than physically possible when simply releasing the throttle.

The contrast between fastest and slowest speed is simply to small ;)

It feels like the brakes are on a little all the time and therefore stopping the cars quicker.

Tried asking on the Steam forums, but that's pointless... Since v0.4 they unlocked the upgrades for the cars in custom events. With this update, did they revert the cars back to the non-upgraded versions without saying anything? The Escort Mk II feels so sluggish now, it takes very little to no braking now (at least at Wales and Germany). That wasn't the case before. Maybe they're messing with individual cars.

Oke, it's old Opel Manta in that video, full throttle and all Power used and I can't go much faster with that car. I know that there's issue with Pikes Peak cars, noticed that when the game released, must test that again. I'm not sure if Codemaster listed all issues they solved for latest fix but lets see if the issue still there. I will create new video later today...

Well, asking for a refund on early access (alpha) software means that you have not understood what alpha is. This is not the game Dirt Rally you are trying. It is internal builds you get to try for preordering... The errors launching the game is to be expected at this state. It is NOT the game, it is a debug build for you to give feedback on.

This is the risk you take with early access schemes... People not understanding that they have no right to demand it works at all. You want them to tell you IF it doesnt so you can fix it, but noone buying an alpha access preorder has the right to be refunded in my world. Not until the game is done and delivered.

But devs are starting to understand this now, that customers lack the understanding of what alpha software is, as compared to other devs so you get backlash before your product is done.

Fair enough. But their priorities are wrong. You wouldn't give somebody a hair cut if they were bleeding out. So neither should you add new content to a game that has fatal problems on startup
