Codemasters have released the long anticipated Rally Finland for their DiRT Rally 2.0 racing game.

One of the favourite rally events in both the real and virtual world, the beautiful and fast stages of Rally Finland are finally available in DiRT Rally 2.0.

The new event is available now on Xbox One, PS4 and PC, and retails for around the £2.99 price point on PC. According to the Codemasters release notes, the stages of Finland are "one of the fastest and most renowned rally locations in the world, featuring colossal jumps and blisteringly high average speeds. The thick gravel and the undulating nature of this course mean that car control and balance are especially significant when navigating the Finish Stages".

Sounds good?

The new DLC is available as a standalone item, or part of the various bonus versions / season pass issues of the game and comes in the following weather / time of day conditions:

Stage Conditions (General):
  • Daytime / Clear / Dry Surface
  • Daytime / Overcast / Dry Surface
  • Sunset / Cloudy / Dry Surface
  • Dusk / Cloudy / Wet Surface
  • Dusk / Overcast / Dry Surface
  • Night / Clear / Dry Surface

Stage Conditions (Time Trial):
  • Daytime / Clear / Dry Surface
  • Dusk / Cloudy / Wet Surface

Happy jumping folks!

Haven't tried myself yet, but from the preview videos the new surroundings are looking very good. The boost in detail is very-very noticeable, and roads are looking amazing.
My concern though, is for the weather/season conditions.
I'm not sure why it's always autumn in Finland in CMR/Dirt games. Might be because you can't go WRC theme and make the rally date in August, well, make it in May-June then... The foliage colors are amazing during those periods, very lush and deep green, with a lot of yellow dandelions and blue lupin everywhere, And polar day adds to the atmosphere, that it can be bright colorful sky at nearly any part of the night.
But even in DR1 there was bright sunny day available, now it seems they set the race date around November, so at 1pm the sun is already low, nearly pre-sunset low.
And no rainy weather during the daytime, well no rain at all. Have you ever seen november in Finland without rain/snow all day every day :)

To be fair, this track and its assets are older than most of the people playing codemasters game.

Its a 10 year old+ set of assets they have imported into their "multiplatform" engine and lit differently.
here it is 10 years ago in DiRT3 :

The problem with codemasters is their engine is just a mess, FFB is a mess, Blurry smeared GFX are a mess (GFX are not sharp in the new engine) its a multiplatform engine that is now MAC and IOS compatible... let that sink in!

These games have become a shadow for their former selves and are not what they could and should have been.

$100 for this game is offensive considering it is just rehashed content from over a decade ago with worse handling than DiRT 2 and in some cases DiRT 3/4.

Its a real shame to see codemasters become shovel ware, but that's exactly what they are, scummy, money grabbing, lazy greedy shameful predators!

I was playing and seeing this over a decade ago, they need to something new and for once, not dynamic weather, no deynamic time of day, no dynamic seasons, no wind resistance, tyre/surface deformation, no nothing. Just a glorified IOS/Switch game.

Soundwise top notch? They couldn't even recycle the 2001 Subaru Impreza WRC sound properly, hear:

the second video sounds like watery farts....

You know why they "couldn't" recycle that sound? Because it was taken from the Grp A Impreza in DR1, which sounds nothing like a WRC spec one. It has unequal headers which creates a much more distinct boxer 'gurgle' than the WRC spec Imprezas which uses equal headers. They simply recorded and started to use the correct sound for that specific car in D4 and DR2.

It doesn't have the "low" sounds of the proper WRC. Just compare it to real life footage on youtube.

Turn off TAA, makes graphics much sharper/crisper...

Comparing to YouTube footage isn't really ideal since there's so many different quality mics/recordings that will distort the sound.

They recorded a 2001 Impreza WRC, you may not like how it turned out, but it's a real recording.
I assume it's quite the challenge to try to get the full dynamic range into a video game.
