Codemasters have dropped a surprise new DiRT Rally 2.0 update today - bringing the popular rally title to version 1.6.
  • Final update.
  • Ford Fiesta R5 MKII Released.
  • Misc. game fixes.

Sad to say the development journey of the excellent DiRT Rally 2.0 is coming to an end with this new update, as Codemasters divert their full attention to the more arcade focussed DiRT 5 release. That said, new content is always a welcome addition to any game, and the solid foundations laid down by the studio for this very enjoyable rally title should provide plenty more entertainment for gamers in the months ahead.

Version 1.6 Update Notes:

Content:

  • New car: Ford Fiesta R5 MKII
Note:
Car is available to all players in modes outside of My Team.

To unlock the car for use in My Team, take part in a DiRT Rally 2.0 World Series Qualifier and you'll get it when the Event Week ends.

Cars:
  • Volkswagen Polo GTI R5 - Updated engine audio based on new recordings of real-world car.
  • Volkswagen Polo GTI R5 - Updated rear-view mirrors to show reflected images.
  • Ford Escort MK2 - Updated rear-view mirrors to show reflected images.
  • Porsche 911 RGT Rally Spec - Updated rear-view mirrors to show reflected images.
World Rallycross Championship
  • Removed AI driver names which were mistakenly appearing when using 2019-spec cars.
Colin McRae Scenarios:
  • Resolved issue where Used tyres were displaying as New in Service Areas.
Miscellaneous:
  • Added ability to select Paraguay as a driver nationality.
  • Made various minor (not notable) bugfixes across the game.

This is currently the final update planned for DiRT Rally 2.0.

The Ford Fiesta R5 MKII will be unlocked for all players to purchase in My Team Garage menu in early 2021, however this does not require a game update.

DiRT Rally 2.0 is available now for both console and PC.

Got questions about the title? No worries, head over to the DiRT Rally 2.0 sub forum here at RaceDepartment and start up a thread - let our awesome community help you out!

About to pull the trigger in this game I think. I like DR1 a lot except for asphalt driving. Seen some discussion on the FFB in DR2. How is it with T300?
I’m no expert either but with my CSW 2.5 it feels pretty good, I had to create a new profile and set drift mode to 0 (if that means anything to you). The BMW M2 Comp version felt good on the free driving area. Time will tell as I’m new to it but positive things to say so far (especially at the sale price).

I've got a good graphic card and high settings, too.

Mine looks similar to this, though:

Without VR its fine. Couldnt find a fix yet and it does seem to be a known problem, but not everyone has it. It ruins the game a bit for me.
The top one looks wierd, that's how it looked for me when the game got VR. Basically you can't see anything like that, driving in rain was horrible like that. I'm trying to add a screeshot of a recorded video, so the quality is not that good, but I hope the difference is visible. I have no idea why it looks different for you, sorry.

I grabbed the GOTY edition last week on Steam sale ($17.24 CAD) and having a blast so far. Chock full of content so this sale is a no-brainer for rally fans.

I also use a CSW 2.5 and have dialed in the FFB as best as I could to my preferences. Feels pretty good but still lacks the road textures (feel) that DiRT Rally had on gravel stages. I'm not a FFB guru but when I played DR 2.0 on the Xbox One it did not feel convincing at all. I tried multiple settings and still came to having a very harsh FFB feel. Codemasters have greyed out wheel friction and tire friction values for the CSW 2.5 on Xbox One. These 2 values are locked in at 100%.

Fast forward to using the CSW 2.5 on DR 2.0 PC et voila! One can set the values for wheel and tire friction. I discovered that using a value of 0 for wheel friction and 10 for tire friction allowed for a very believable FFB experience. IMO all FFB wheels should deliver a good feel when playing DR 2.0 on PC. From experience give the Xbox version of DR 2.0 a hard pass, just doesn't feel right.

I'm not completely sure about this but afaik dirt rally 1 was sending tire and wheel friction channels to the damper channel of the wheel driver software.

So I think you could lower the "dpr" channel on your csw 2.5 and get the same ffb on Xbox.
If you're using different levels for tire and for wheel friction that's another problem of course (I do.. Low wheel friction, high tire friction..).

For, spr, dpr are at 100% at default settings. I'd always recommend to keep them there but if you have a specific issue like on Xbox, lowering the dpr should help :)

Wheel friction I am pretty sure is just added weight to the steering at all times. It offers nothing in the way of FFB and just makes the wheel 'heavier' to turn. Tyre friction gathers data from the tyres in relation to the road surface so this would definitely fall under the category of useful information. For OSW users, you've probably already got all the damping and friction you want applied in the profile you're using in Simucube, so that wheel friction value is just increasing the weight you're most likely already comfortable with.

On CSW I guess it depends if there is damping already being added at the driver level or through the wheel base. This would compare to the Simucube filters if so.

That's a great reply, thank you !

The CSW 2.5 FOR/SPR/DPR wheel settings do not exist when using wheel in Xbox mode. These settings only function when wheel is in PC mode, hence only PC gameplay. I truly wish that FOR/SPR/DPR settings could work in Xbox mode but hey.....we're talking about Microsoft here. Won't go back to playing racing games on Xbox due to its' limitations. The platform does not even support rev light LEDs and live telemetry output is only reserved for a few of its' racing titles.

Since I got my 1st gaming computer in August 2019 I have found it quite hard to go back to an Xbox One for gaming. Racing sims come alive on a PC, compared to Xbox, and feel way more realistic and convincing. Super happy to make the move from Xbox to PC racing. Should of bought a gaming PC years ago !!

@RasmusP would you care to share your wheel and ingame settings for DR2? I just bought the GOTY edition and struggle to get acceptable ffb with my csw 2.5.
Thanks in advance, through the years im still using your recommended csw settings in different sims and until now they still feel the best!

Hi!

Sadly I never really drove much Dirt Rally 2... I just didn't enjoy the driving. The cars felt realistic but they felt too heavy for me to "go fast and have a blast" but driving slower wasn't much fun either.
I just didn't really feel in control. Especially when just driving straight with slight bends, the wheel hadn't enough "friction" to be precise with my inputs so I was constantly going slightly left or right, sometimes hitting a rock on tight sections due to this or just losing control.
When I raised the wheel weight and tyre weight sliders, it didn't get much better. Same for the DRI setting in the Fanatec settings.
It would give not enough resistance when going straight but way too much resistance when needing to turn swiftly and catching the car during a drift.

For comparison in Dirt Rally 1 this doesn't matter much. You can just have a blast and really push. It's fun! Feels a bit "too easy", but it's fun.

In WRC 9, what I really enjoy, the car feels heavier and it's a bit "difficult" to go fast. But driving slower is still a lot of fun!

I can give you settings for that :p
