Featuring all the official drivers, teams and tracks from the 2016 Formula One season, the release day for Codemasters latest Formula One iteration is finally here.

Making it's return to the series is the Safety Car, along with the newly implemented Virtual Safety Car (VSC) and a host of new and improved features such as manual starts and formation laps. Players will be able to create their own character, personalise their own helmet and choose a racing number for their career.

F1 2016 is the official video game of the 2016 FIA FORMULA ONE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP™ and features the full 2016 season calendar of 21 tracks, including the brand new Baku circuit in Azerbaijan, and the full roster of 22 drivers and 11 teams, including the new Haas F1 Team.

Many fans believe this to be the true successor to the original F1 2010 game with a greater focus on "Living the Life", as players will have to deal with media commitments, driver contracts and emails. In addition to these welcome improvements comes far more engaging practice sessions as drivers will need to complete programs and goals for the Free Practice sessions which are vital for the team's Research and Development program.

Do you own F1 2016? What are your impressions so far? Let us know!

Just done the Chinese GP (Finished a enjoyable 7th in my Renault) which is a circuit I really enjoy, the track acclimatisation R&D in practice just helped me find a nice line through turns 1,2 & 3, makes it feel like you are not just ticking boxing using these features in practice.

Still loving it!

My last Codmaster F1 was 2013. So, keep posting your reviews her please. To buy or not to buy, that's the question. Your posts are very helpfull for an old fart like me. ;)

Same. Interested as well to everyone's reviews.

I know steam allows refunds but game is gonna eat a lot of my monthly bandwidth with Netflix and other junk. Would rather wait and see what everyone thinks of it.

enjoyed it so far but just watched the career vid thats on this homepage and the guy runs out of fuel on the home straight and grosjean just does not overtake the stricken slower car...someone else commentated in this thread too about how the ai struggles with stricken slower cars to overtake....i really hope this gets sorted as to me the ai looked pretty good other than that

towards the end of the vid to see what i mean

I bought and did not like, heavy graphics, music menus the same as the 2015 forceffedback the same as the 2015 big input lag , after reading so many compliments I thought it would be good , but for now I am very frustrated . sorry my english by google

After 80 min of light tweakin and hotlapping i feel i'm going to ask for a refund. Not bad, but not worth 50€ imo. Guess i had my expectations too high after Codies' DIRT Rally. Having said that, i might get it later when it's "finished" (patched) and on sale for say 20 bucks.

I'm really enjoying it & the shortest review I can write which can sum it up is: It's been a long time since I've fired up Codies F1 & played it solidly until 5am in the morning. And that's the truth of it. The R&D phase before each race doesn't feel like some empty detached & pointless throw in & it affects the season considerably. In fact, it's as enjoyable as the main event. The AI are on the ball. The graphics are vastly improved. I mean, I'm running everything maxed out with G-Sync at 2560x1440 & it's smooth with zero lag-outs. I can see the difference in the tarmac at each track, individual grains! The carbon fiber through the paintwork in sunlight, the tyre moulding intricacies. It's quite a work of art & it drives well.

It makes F1 2015 look & feel like a sluggish incomplete behemoth beta thrown together in a hurry & I hated Codies 2015 offering. I used to get up extra early in the morning just so I had more time in the day to hate F1 2015. If I have any gripes with F1 2016, it's two things, the look left & right is just plain lazy. There is no pendulum swing from the helmet, it just snaps to a view. It's horrible, again, like it was coded in the 80's. Then, the helmets. Sure you can customize them, but go to the grid & it looks like this:

Sponsored F1 driver
Sponsored F1 driver
Sponsored F1 driver
Sponsored F1 driver
Some bloke who borrowed his grannies neighbours helmet
Sponsored F1 driver
Sponsored F1 driver
Sponsored F1 driver

...you get the picture.

I thought FOM were anal about advertising yet you are the only driver on the grid effectively wearing one flipflop & a mankini while everyone else is a lush walking billboard. Attention to detail Codies! If it's about realistic immersion, you missed a trick there.
Minor Bug Found: The other thing is you can't run it at 144hz. It locks up at the loading screen & you have to kill it via task manager to get out. It took me an hour to figure out why it was locking up & that the game wasn't corrupt. In a gaming world where 144hz monitors are fast becoming the standard, that's a bit of an oops moment from Codies, but I'm sure it will be patched shortly. If you drop it down to 119hz, everything runs smooth.

So overall, loving it. I never thought I'd be saying that about a new F1 Codies release, ever again. I stand corrected & humbled. Whatever changed in the management & dev team, changed for the better. Enough writing, I just tabbed out of the game to say that. Back to quali at Malaysia.

Only done 1 career race so far (50%), AI might need some improvements. Perez had some problems after a few laps which slowed him down quite a bit, yet the other AI cars just didn't manage to get past, despite DRS. Train of 8 cars or so, one might have thought Trulli had made a comeback.
In general, how does the AI compare to 2015? Particularly at the start. Can't tell you how many times I'd have to restart races to get a clean start - AI would simply cornhole me. Those 2015 AI drivers drove with no presence.

Can't compare as I never played 2015. As for the starts, the AI seems to be rather reckless and ignore the existence of the player. Keep in mind that I only did 3 races so far. Melbourne & Bahrain they didn't give me any room and pretty much drove into me, Shanghai was ok though I was more careful in that one and left some bigger gaps.

Okay having played a bit more I can give a better review for it. Starts are very easy and AI don't seem able to make as good as a start as the human player. AI also don't seem able to overtake, even with DRS. A Williams couldn't pass me on the long straight in Barcelona while driving in a Renault. Graphics are good on the PS4 but sometimes the framerate drops a bit.

Having tested a bit of multiplayer as well, so far I'm really loving it. Not really the amount of lag I had with previous games.

My career mode point still stands, it's the best gamemode i've ever played from a codies game, the atmosphere and things you can do besides just the racing are incredible. At least for the first 2 or 3 ish seasons. I fear though that after 9 seasons you can get pretty fed up with the Track Acclimatisation Test for example. Overall I'd still say it's worth the money, although I've yet to play an online championship, let's hope that turns out to be great as well.

I' m having lots of fun with the game. It runs good with gtx 760 and one 60hz monitor.
It needs some AI patching, but nothing gamebraking. Lots of new little features. If you like F1, it's not a bad buy.
