Reiza Studios yesterday released their latest update to the Automobilista Motorsport Simulator (AMS) title for Windows PC, adding a substantial change log to the base game and including a couple of pieces of new content - namely the Formula Truck DLC add-on and the free addition of the Formula Dirt car and Ascurra Dirt Track.

Teased in an earlier end of season blog update, Reiza have added the surprise inclusion of the Formula Dirt car and Ascurra track as something of a Christmas treat for fans of the game, bringing yet another type of unique Brazilian race car to a simulation cram packed full of some of the more curious forms of motorsport from across the globe. Although the Formula Dirt vehicle is an off road race machine, and therefore ideal for use on some of the rally cross tracks already in AMS, Reiza have also included the Ascurra Dirt Track location as part of the new content update, giving players a perfect playground in which to enjoy the new cars.

Obviously the latest update and new car / track addition are not the only highlights from the build 1.20 release. Reiza have now finally made the Formula Truck DLC expansion available to purchase. The Formula Truck vehicles are perhaps not unfamiliar to some gamers, as originally Reiza did produce the Formula Truck 2013 as a stand alone title at a similar time to when Game Stockcar Extreme was new on the shelves. After much negotiating to once again secure the official licence, a much improved and polished version of these monstrous 1200HP 5 ton racing trucks have made their way into Automobilista! With Reiza surely aware that previous owners of the game would be reluctant to re purchase the vehicles as DLC for AMS, the studio have offered FTruck as a free item to owners of Formula Truck 2013, as well as including the content for free to owners of the Season Pass or early crowdfunding beta backers. Should you not fall into any of these categories, the Formula Truck DLC can be purchased for £4.79 via the Steam store page. Additional to the Formula Truck DLC comes several circuit layouts and rulesets specific to this racing series.

OBS 1: Brief explanation of Formula Truck Speed Trap rule: every Formula Truck layout has a Speed Trap in a section of the track (usually the fastest, its location being indicated by the icon on its trackmap, by the flashing icon on top left corner as you approach it while driving, and by a line of cones trackside) through which drivers are supposed to cross going no faster than 160 km/h. Exceeding 160 km/h through the Speed Trap will result in lap being invalidated in practice / qual, or an instant drive-through penalty in races. Players may opt to switch the rule off from the Rules menu.

OBS 2: Formula Trucks chop off their 1st gear so it skips straight to 2nd; if you are using an H Shifter you start from 2nd, which is also very short. Typically on track you´ll only use 3rd-6th.

OBS 3: F-Truck diesel smoke from the exhaust is still being worked on and has not been implemented in this build

OBS 4: For those who are used to running short times races, you may have to adjust your AI settings as with fuel estimation fix they will be appropriately competitive now - consistent in fact with their practice / quali performance, as they were in lap-based races.

Those guys are incredible: they listen to the feedbacks but they make their own decision and never cease to surprise us! The trucks were announced, some did ask for more dirt tracks... but what a surprise! I also appreciate the new variations of the Catherham: the Brit pack was already adding quite a lot of content to the game imo! And the existing content gets a lot of attention and many improvements too: can't wait to go back home and try all this! :)

F Trucks shows up in the vehicle choice screen, but It doesn't highlight when I hover and I can't select it. It's the same in Beta. It shows as installed on Steam, do I need to activate it somehow? I own the original and have the season pass. I don't really play it much, but it's just nice to have stuff if you're entitled to it.

Try verifyimg the game as mine works fine even in the beta it worked fine.

I find it simply amazing that they are able to manage such fast growing content so well and continue to put out more content and continue to perfect things like ever-improving Vintage physics they just don't stop tweaking it's like magic because one of my biggest concerns was that at some point they were going to struggle with such a large content base but there are no signs of any struggle whatsoever and if anything they are tweaking things we didn't even know needed tweaking until we try them and they are better even then we thought was possible!

I wouldn't be surprised if they picked up some tips from Luminus during that engagement. Regardless, I am friggin loving this sh...tuff ;)

Do I recall correctly that sounds are still WIP? Very noticeable difference in Vintage tire sounds and I think I'm liking it but defo going to have to get used to it or maybe adjust volume but the information is good but aesthetics are substantially less desirable than what was previous but again I may just need to get used to it and reduce the volume or if WIP I may just wait until closer to being done before fiddling / giving feedback.

At this point for me personally about the only two things left which are interrelated are AI improvements to stop them from hitting me when I'm on the driving line and the open wheel collision feelers where tires are overlapping and still some warping.

I'm curious, does anyone know why AMS doesn't do collision feelers like rF2 where it's not just a box around the car but you can interlock wheels?
