Another sim, another hotfix! This time it is the turn of Reiza Studios, and their Automobilista 2 racing simulation.
  • Crash to desktop issues around saved setups resolved.
  • AI aggression revisions.
  • Track adjustments and various fixes.

Another new update has arrived on Steam today for Automobilista 2, the second hotfix release since the deployment of the Hockenheim DLC and the recent 1.0.1.0 update on Saturday. These small hotfix releases are a common occurrence post major build release, and are designed mostly to rectify any issues that have developed with the game following the last update.

The next major release for Automobilista 2 is scheduled for August, so don't expect this release to contain new content or substantial changes to the game, however the array of little fixes and tweaks are likely to be well received by the players of the title.

Try a single Race.. AI at 95 - 50% Aggression...

First half a lap they are nearly stopped at each corner - for me unplayable..

I found out how to get them to unjam. On the first corner just cut to the inside as they jam up. Ram them if you have to (after all they have no problem running into you) . This can almost guarantee you start in first, or close to it. When you are in first it is amazing how much better they seem to race. They will unstack and catch you rather quickly after this ;).

On a more serious note. I have a love/hate with this game. There are times it is one of the best sims I have raced, and there are other times I get so frustrated I can't take it. If I go in with the mindset to enjoy it no matter what happens on the track, it helps. I know I am going to get rammed from the side by the AI. It will happen several times during the race. If I calm myself, which can be hard, and just get back on the track and start enjoying the run I will start smiling again. I may come in last thanks to the AI punt, or the outer edge of my tire that nicked the grass and made me spin out, or the pit violation penalty I get by driving on the actual track but in front of the pit, or the guy I pass on a straight away but get an illegal passing message (Maybe I just don't know Brazilian racing rules).

However, with all its faults, I love the game. I truly believe it will be one of the best sims. I too may give up on it for a bit and revisit, but Reiza will come through for us in the end. They do seem to listen to these issues.

The stopping thing depends on the track. I find it most prevalent at hairpins and some chicanes, and it doesn't seem to matter what you set the AI or their aggression to.

I also find them very uncompetitive in any high-power open-wheeler... so all the F1 classes. My meagre abilities mean in most sims I set the AI somewhere around 95-105 depending on the class and track. This is also true of AMS 2 in tin-tops. But in the F1 cars I set them to 120 and am still 1-3+ seconds faster than them, even on tracks I'm blatantly rubbish at.

It's an issue I've reported at least twice, and I was asked by an official source to give details of when and where it happens... but since it happens everywhere, I didn't really see the point. If Reiza's own testing isn't picking it up then I really don't know what to say... :O_o:

I noticed this too. Racing the stock car 2020 (Chevy or Toyota) I was getting wasted by the AI. I dropped down to 80% (maybe lower) just to make it interesting. I raced for days thinking I was just terrible. Same car (Stuck with the Chevy) same track over and over, and couldn't hang. I finally decided to try a different track, but kept the difficulty at 80% and to my surprise. Same car, but different track (one I have never been on in any game) on the first run I beat the AI by 1/2 lap. I went to 90, 95 and still won. Went back to the other track, and got wasted. Not even close.

Edit: Forgot to mention. I did the same thing with the Ultima. One track I was breaking records, and the other track I was in last every time.

I’m the same boat as of late. The more time I spend with the title the more inconsistent my feelings about it become. I’m sure there were financial and other business concerns that pressured the release to happen when it did. It really does, however, feel like several months of additional work were probably in order to polish the items currently included in the game to their potential.

Side Question:
The small text block with the powertrain description that you see while a driving session is loading states that Stock Car Brasil 2020 is mid-engine. Is that wrong? I know the driving position is half way to the rear seat and the engine would probably be in your lap in the passenger car equivalent. By all common conventions though, they’re front engine cars, aren’t they?

LOL. I was thinking the same thing. I would be shocked if those were mid-engine, but the it does show that it is on the graphics description. I think those are based on the Cruze and the Corolla. Both of which are front engine cars.

What about V10 in Interlagos?
In Quali I make it to pole but in the race the AI is awesome fast and eats me up.
Maybe my meagre abilities are more meagre...
