Assetto Corsa RD Rookies Races Go From Strength to Stength

The newly formed RaceDepartment Rookie Races continue to go from strength to strength as we look to expand the events on offer...

With two successive weeks of double full house servers in our EU Abarth 500 races, we are so pleased and honoured that so many new and old faces have decided to join us out on the track, some of whom are attending an online race with RaceDepartment for the very first time.

When we first decided to host these rookie friendly events using the mighty Abarth 500 in Assetto Corsa we never thought it possible to see such a positive reception so soon into the programme, none more obvious than in today's (22.3.17) 44 drivers taking to the track at the Nurburgring in Germany for some brilliant on track action for both the "new" and more experienced of our driving strength here at RD.

With such outstanding success already achieved, and a rapidly growing US racing club also seeing some great racing and close grids, we just wanted to take the opportunity to say "thank you" to everyone who is taking part, and to encourage those of you who have yet to dip your toe in the club races to hurray along and get yourself signed up for some fun! Such has been the success of the Abarth 500 we've already filled up one full server for next Wednesday's race and server two is well on it's way, less than one hour after it went live!

So if you are thinking about getting involved in Assetto Corsa online here at RaceDepartment, then don't wait too long or you might find yourself without a space on the grid!!!

We have the following "Rookie Races" scheduled in both the EU and US time zones for the coming week. Remember sign up early, the more people already confirmed on the grid encourages others to join in the action, so sign up early and help your fellow racers make the decision and get themselves involved! We run event's in our free time to give something back to the community and nothing rewards us more than seeing a full grid of sim racers having a seriously good time out on track. Trust me, once bitten you will never look back!

EU - Rookies: Formula Abarth (Live Stream) @ Vallelunga - Friday March 24, 2017
US - Rookies: Formula Abarth @ Monza Junior - Sunday March 26th 2017
US - Rookies: Abarth 500 AC @ Nurburgring - Monday, March 27 2017
EU - Rookies: Abarth 500 @ Brands Hatch (Live Stream) - Wednesday March 29, 2017

As well as our hugely successful "Rookie Races" we also host a wide variety of superb content in Assetto Corsa. If you like classic cars, GT3 machines, Porches or WEC style multiclass racing, we have you covered and more! Hit us up at the Assetto Corsa Club and League racing forum and get yourself involved in the action. Remember, the earlier you put your name down on the start sheet, the more likely it is that others will follow suit and join you out on track. With a website of our size, and the quality of Assetto Corsa and our racing clubs, I see no reason why we can't have a full server for every event we host. Join in the action, it is easily the best way to get the most out of your simulation!

Im glad to say that I will continue to be behind the mic in the Abarth races on Wednesdays for the foreseeable future, and I will be behind the wheel for this weeks Formula Abarth's on stream :) Looking forward to it!!! :D:D:D

Awesome news mate! Superb job with these streams so far :) Really looking forward to watching back on the telly how my race fell apart tonight!

It's amazing what happens when I hear on TS that you are running on-board my car. I magically forget what an apex is and start bouncing around like some kind of madman on curbs I never even noticed before you followed my car :roflmao::roflmao::roflmao::roflmao: Just bloody glad you didn't follow me in quali :D

I dropped out of TS in the race due to this. I saw that it affected peoples times, i thought it would go better with me out of TS. :D:D

Ahh I was worried something had gone wrong! Looking forward to watching the event back, from what I understand @Allan Ramsbottom and @SenseR has some seriously good racing out on track tonight, so looking forward to seeing that.

It's actually quite a sad state of affairs when sim racing offers up a better on track spectacle than the real thing does... looking at you Formula One.... ;)
The season didnt even start and there are already complaints :D

But most likely you are correct with it anyways

I'd love to start racing in RD. But I live in Brazil. Is there any lag that makes it unplayable or that I may ruin the race?

Hello mate :)

We have a dedicated US server that will prevent these issues :) Our very own AC staff member @Lorenzo Bonder is Brazilian so we know it works :) If you are really worried I suggest you come and join one of the races and ask someone to spot you for a bit, see how your connection looks.. that's the best way to be sure, but I suspect it won't be a problem on the US events. Our EU events run from servers in the EU (obviously) so on some occasions it may cause a problem, however saying that I've raced with people from all over, in AUS, US and other places without issue, so it might actually be ok for those too...

We are planning to build up the non European events and player base, so your support and attendance would be appreciated (and bring some friends too :) ).

Sadly I'm of little faith with regards the new rules. Really hope I'm wrong, but the new regs are exactly the opposite of what I would pick if I was making them!!

"So dirty air prevents cars running close together doesn't it" said an F1 rule maker
"Yes it does, downforce usually kills racing" says his colleague
Bernie comes in...
"guys, new regs for 2017. **** loads more downforce and some big ass wings"

Sigh

I will reply here because we had some good intense laps there Paul :D And some good intense "touches" haha sorry.

I too have to watch that stream for the whole race because it is so much fun seeing things from the diferent cameras and angles, mostly when the race is this close.

Can't stop racing now :(

First let me congratulate everyone in RaceDepartment, it has been for sometime my main source not only for mods, but for racing news in general.

Will try it on the next monday US event. Let me just get my Premium membership ready and will ask for a spot at the proper topic.
It is very hard to bring friends to sim racing world in Brazil, prices here are high even for entrance builds.

These races are absolutely brilliant! The turnout just shows how many people are sitting on the fence, too nervous to get involved in the clubs. Put "rookie" in the title and they pop up all over the place!

Thing is, all of RD's events are this friendly and welcoming of new people, so don't be scared to enter all the other races too! :)

As I was reminded last night by Bram, I actually registered here back in 2009, been online racing everywhere else for years, yet it's only this year started racing with RD, man should of done it alot earlier, so yes I'm no rookie, but when I'm in TS, it's really good to listen to the guys really put in the effort to help out Rookies and even seasoned races when they ask for it, their general advice is sound and easy to understand, and of course in a very friendly manner, and they also welcome everybody with open arms, especially with the total newbies to sim racing, which is half the fight sometimes to getting confidence and feeling part of the community to online racing.

So if your not sure about signing up for it, not sure if your fit in, trust me just go for it, you wont regret it.

So good job guys..;)
